OT - Tigers v White Sox: Dead Tigers walking about to be swept again
September 10th, 2012 at 9:02 PM ^
Definitely losing 4 out of 4 to the Sox. Porcello, Fister, Scherzer, Verlander, Cabrera, and Fielder all suck.
September 10th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
They're leading early 1-0, and it seems the Tigers have had the Sox's number all season. I'm a Chicagoan and want to see the Sox win, but I fear the end of this series will have the two teams tied for 1st or the Tigers in the lead since Dunn is being held out for at least tonight. This is kind of a redundant post though as there's a Tigers/Sox predictions thread already in existence titled Predictions on Tigers - White Sox Series, & Central Division Finish

You clearly don't know how Gordie Bell's super reverse jinx works.
September 10th, 2012 at 9:16 PM ^
As a Chicagoan I wouldn't complain about any Gordie Bell jinx that works out in the Sox's favor. If the Sox reach the playoffs I'd be at any home games due to tix connections so I hope they get in. I just think no matter who wins the AL Central this year they're probably gonna get knocked out in the 1st round.

I'm not really sure what city you reside in sir.

I didn't realize I'd dropped my city into two straight posts.

I get them for free in box seats. Was in the ESPN skybox right behind home for a game last year, and in the playoffs a couple years ago was at the games vs Tampa right on 3rd base 5 rows from the field. For free.
But yeah typically sox tix are an extremely easy get.

Do you live in Chicago or something?

Ryan Raburn is the best player in the MLB

I'd take Ty Cobb right now, even though he's been dead for over 50 years.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:31 PM ^
I'd take me over Raburn too.

Cabrera is slumping quite a bit right now, wrong time of the year to be having poor AB's.
September 10th, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
Infante played every hop right there...except for the last one.

3-1 CWS.
Buh-bye.

Areas to address in the offseason.
-
Leyland is done, regardless of what happens the rest of the season. He hasn't complained about his 1 year contract at all this season, which is unusual and it sure looks like he's had enough. So find a new manager.
-
Decide on Jhonny's option, I was earlier inclinded to say it was a no-brainer to pick it up, but his lack of range and punch with the bat has me rethinking. If they do indeed want Miggy at 3rd full time they should probably find a SS with better range to compensate for Miguel's lack of.
-
Trade for a corner outfielder. Delmon is a for sure goner, and Boesch doesn't look like he's going to cut it, so they need to find a way to get an above average outfielder. Trade candidates include Porcello, Boesch, and Crosby.
-
Sign another bullpen arm, preferably not one who will command closer money because there's no way they sign Valverde back at 9mil a year.
- Get healthy V-Mart.

How do you feel about Berry, Jackson, and Dirks in the OF? As far as Leyland, I've stuck up for him all year, but he needs to go! Peralta is adios and our bullpen is fine.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
Don't sleep on Avisail Garcia in RF, if he can hit next spring.
I think Porcello and Boesch are going to go bye-bye for a middle infielder.
Quentin Berry is not an everyday starting outfielder.
As for another manager, the bidding starts with Terry Francona.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
The corner outfielders need to have above average power. Defensively Berry, Jackson, and Dirks is a solid lineup but that leaves alot to be desired offensively, especially when it comes to XBH. I'm of the opinion that Berry was a great replacement for about 2 months but that he's not a full time big leaguer, his swing is too long. Should be looking for someone like a Josh Willingham, Torii Hunter, Nick Swisher.

Terry Francona.

September 10th, 2012 at 10:39 PM ^
Ckersh said it above but Francona is the top option out there, maybe try and convince Gibson to come back but I have no idea what his contract situation is. Mike Maddox might be name you could look at in Texas.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:50 PM ^
Beware on Mike Maddux. Pitching coaches do not fare well as managers, in general.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:54 PM ^
Fair enough, maybe Bob Melvin would like an upgrade in salary?

Raburn. Save the day!
September 10th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
to help Miggy out at third. I agree with WMUGoBlue's points, all good ideas. Next year if their first five in the line up is
1 Jackson
2 Insert awesome corner outfielder or shortstop here
3 Miggy
4 Prince
5 VMart
6-8 Insert awesome corner outfielder or shortstop here, Laird (Avila become backup), Infante, Dirks/Garcia/Castellanos(?)
Boesch, Young, Raburn, buh bye.

Well that wasn't good. Certainly understand the obits above, and I don't like Tigers chances, but I will be tuned in tomorrow.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:29 PM ^
I just don't get all the Tiger errors. Sometimes, errors are just hard plays, and are understandable. But the second error to Wise was fatal. It left the door open for Konerko. Then, bad fielding by the Tigers (two guys going to second) opened the field for Konerko's single. And boom, game over. Yes, I love the Sox, but I think the Tigers threw that game away.
I said in the other thread that this was the critical game. With the Sox 3 games up, that puts a ton of pressure on Detroit. I can't see Detroit winning the next three, and think that either Sales or Peavy will win, leaving the Tigers two back. Really, this starting to look like the mirror image of last year, when the Tigers pulled away from the Sox.
For all you Hawk haterz out there, he praised Fielder for being a player who always does it right and plays hard.
