Elite 11 Day 5 Open Thread
Last day of Elite 11 competition. Shane Morris still has not been able to break into the coaches' rankings despite glowing reviews from various recruiting analysts observing the on-field portion of the competition.
Final day of competition includes red zone and 2 minute drill work. Get it done Shane.
Reached the final day. Red Zone 7on7 & Pressure Cooker 2 minute drill. #Elite11

To answer your question, something like that ^
I don't get why people are so upset about the rankings put out by the coaches. I watched the ESPN coverage of the Elite 11 last season and the whole time it was Dilfer trying to mess with the kids heads to see how they reacted. I think this is what is going on here. We will see who is selected into the Elite 11 but I will be very surprised if Shane is not one of them.
I'm not too sure what these rankings are based on anyways.
at 4pm and arrives in Los Angeles at 7pm, how many hookers did Craig James allegedly kill while at SMU?
Depending on which method you use to solve this question, the answer is either 5 or five.
Incredible balance.
j/k
This just looks like a broken wrist waiting to happen. Scary.
Do we find out the final rankings today?
2. Shane Morris, Warren (Mich.) De La Salle: Morris has the strongest arm of the bunch by far and he's not afraid to use it. The ball comes out quickly and with a ton of zip, but he has also been showing more patience and touch and his long ball hasn't sailed on him as it has in the past. Morris still needs to see more of the field, but he is improving working across his body and he has been smart about checking down when needed. His physical upside is better than anyone else's at the event.

I had never heard of this Woulard guy... he must be really impressing for a 3-star dual threat guy to be leading the pack (according to Rivals based upon on the field performance).
FWIW, he is a 4 star on the 3 other services. Where you at Swoopes?
I think Shane's a great QB and fit for Michigan. I'll be happy for him if he wins some extra accolades for himself. I'll be even happier for him if he learns some useful skills from the competition. But I'm not going to really care that much if he doesn't win this or even if his high school team doesn't win every game next year.
That's the main reason I like hearing praise for Morris and his progression. He keeps getting better and keeps working on his flaws. Everyone has known of his arm strength, but he keeps adding more to his repetoire.
Guys, this is ESPN. They have emphasized the "E" at the expense of the "S" for decades, particularly in events like this.
Shane Morris bounces back from 2 incompletions with 2 TDs. Showed good touch on the final throws after getting one knocked down #Michigan
For comparison, only 4 players have thrown for multiple TDs so far: Del Rio (3), Jennings (3), Browne (2), & Zaire (2)
Shane Morris grabs the mic to announce J.T. Barrett: "Now throwing, from the Ohio University..." #Elite11
nice
RT @ScoutKennedy: "Final Group after 4 red zone throws 1.@S_Morris12 2. Danny Etling 3. Zach Greenlee 4. JT Barrett"
Edit: and a picture with Morris

Really Elite11? Pete Carroll? Is he talking about getting out of the pocket before you get sacked?
For those hyperventilating about a Trent Dilfer/WWL conspiracy; take a deep breath and relax.
Shane has the talent; but obviously, being a QB is more about having a gun for an arm otherwise Todd Marinovich, Jeff George, and Ryan Leaf would have been All-Pros, and Tom Brady would have been a typical 6th round draft pick.
Having a little bit of reinforcement that QB also includes film/classwork/etc is NOT a bad lesson for a recruit of Shane's caliber (for all intents and purposes, the #1 or #2 pro-style QB in the country this year) to learn.
It may bruise the ego a little, but who really gives a rat's ass if Shane "win's" the Trent Dilfer Elite 11 Memorial trophy, but never beats Michigan State, the Domers, or Ohio? Would we care if Shane doesn't win the Elite 11 but ends up going 4-0 v. the above three teams?
I know it's the slow season, but everyon stop getting their panties in a knot.
From this morning (don't think this is the final rankings). No Shane Morris.
1. Greenlee
2. Browne
3. Goff
4. Hackenberg
5. Woulard
6. Stanton
7. Del Rio
8. Dobbs
9. Williams
10. Cockerville
11. Zaire
it'll look good on TV, but right now Elite 11 is like watching a sitcom being filmed over 8 hours for 22 minutes of content. TV Production
Every article that I read and video I have seen has given Shane Morris a ton of props. Everyone that has reported on the Elite 11 has considered Shane as one of the top 3 QB's at the camp. What are the coaches seeing at this camp that observers are not seeing?
My sense is Morris is going to be so good at Michigan Borges will allow him to throw bubble screens.
I've determined that since Morris doesn't seem to like to check down then he will continue to not be on the "top" 11....so it goes with a gunslinger mentality.
Sounds like a lot will rest on how he does in the final 2 min. drill.
RT: “@jake_da_snake88: @BrianStumpfESPN Where is Shane morris?” pushing towards 11, has learned a lot this week and we'll see how finals go
Trent Dilfer played at Fresno State. Zack Greenlee has one offer...where do you think it is from?
I had that thought earlier along with this one: most of the coaches are from the West Coast. 7 of the 11 QBs in the rankings today are from the West Coast with most committed to Pac-12 schools (all 4 QBs from CA are in the rankings). The only West Coast QB not in the rankings is Cooper Bateman from UT, and he is committed to Alabama.
There are 6 QBs from Texas, and none of them are in today's top 11 (out of 24).
Not consistent enough in opinion of coaches. Lots of good competition. #Elite11 RT@culleradam can you tell me why Shane is not on here?
Which seems like the opposite opinion of all the services in attendance....oh well, the day Dilfer's opinion matters will be the first time.
Probably gonna lose points for that...Coach Dilfer would have preferred a checkdown..
I see it as a win-win situation. He is obviously one of the most talented QB's in the country and works hard to improve himself every day. If he doesn't make the final, imagine how hard and determined he's gonna be to prove them wrong. Either way there's nobody else out there I'd rather have to lead touchdown drives in the near future, including kids from the 2012 and 2014 classes.
Someone posted this on 247, so I thought I might bring it up here for all the conspiracy theorists.
The #1 QB according to the coaches so far is Zach Greenlee, who only has one offer, from Fresno State. Where did Trent Dilfer play? Fresno State.
Also the only QB in the whole show that has not commited.
My personal Elite 11 after 5 days and 32 or so throws: 1. Morris 2. Olsen 3. Woulard 4. Browne 5. Goff 6. Ramsey 7. Bateman 8. Dobbs cont.
9. Hackenberg 10. Kincade 11. Zaire and no, don't expect big rankings changes coming off of a 30 throw shorts and Tshirt event
The final 11 is set. @TDESPN @georgewhitfield @BrianStumpfESPN. @Joey_Roberts @MikeWhiteESPN #JordanPalmer #MattJames #KenOBrien
Well Dilfer, we're waiting...
I can't believe I actually slightly care about this.
