'14 WR/SG Drake Harris to decide Wednesday
Sam Webb @SamWebb77
2014 Grand Rapids Christian 2-sport star Drake Harris @dharrisbball4 to announce decision Wednesday per his dad #Michigan #MichiganState #ND
My head hurts from your logic. So, essentially, you have to throw out 1999-2012 for MSU basketball, because UM basketball's dominance (before MSU even joined the Big Ten) is a better indicator for where the programs are in 2012?
Wait, I'm seriously struggling with this. MSU-UM basketball are on par, despite the incredible disparity in actual on court results in the past decade, as well as the difference in the quality of players on both teams, yet MSU football is comically behind UM despite having won four in a row against them? Are you even reading this as you're typing?
Our football team is better than yours. The results on the field matter more than Mythical May Recruiting Championships. Our basketball team is better than yours. We outdid one of the greatest seasons in decades you've had in a rebuilding year for us. How is it even possible to argue relative merits of basketball? Our program is light years ahead of yours. Football, we're fairly close to even, though four years of beatdowns certainly weighs heavily on that assumption.
My metrics are on, your facts are off. Michigan forfeited that championship due to, you know, rampant cheating. Michigan has never won the Big Ten tournament.
It may have been vacated, but we still won it. Do you think our vacated loss to Ohio doesn't still feel like a loss? The games were played.
I'll repeat - Michigan has never won the Big Ten Men's basketball tournament. That is indisputable.
You should consider leaving now. It doesn't seem as if you have the proper temperment, exhibited by several MSU fans who do visit this site and contribute, to provide anything worthwhile to this online community.
It's not the facts, it's how you present them. And you don't present them well.
wait, what? when did we vacate the NCAAs Ohio game? and we lost anyway. makes no sense.
Well, considering it's 2012 and at this moment MSU's basketball is better than UM's (Also MSU is allowing him to play both as a Freshmen. UM has told other players that want to play both they have to wait till they are a Sophmore(I don't know what they told him)) and the football programs at THIS moment are not far apart. YES, UM's history in both sports are deeper and better than MSU's but I don't care who the player is, they want to play for a good team NOW, not because the school was good in the past (Yes, UM is very good at both sports now). So just because UM has more History then MSU even though at the moment MSU is combined better it makes UM have better teams? No it doesn't, especially to a 17yr old kid.
Now I'm not saying he is choosing MSU or UM I'm just stating that the better choice for him in both sports is MSU. But its not just sports it's what school he wants to live at for the next 4 years and that could lead him to UM hell it could lead him to ND even. And like I said in the post earlier I hope he does choose UM as he is a very good player in both sports.
I never said that Historically MSU has better teams I was refering to the present that matters most to kids. Also as ldd10 stated some facts, it looks like UM's basketball is not as good as you make it out to be. MSU's program may just be historically better than UM's in basketball.
If the present matters more to most kids, explain Michigan's throttling of MSU on the football recruiting trail, and even Beilein's beatdown of Izzo on the basketball recruiting trail. There can be no real debate as to which programs are in position to be stronger into the future.
How is Beilen beating down Izzo in bball recruiting? They aren't even really targeting the same guys...
MSU's prime targets in 2013 are Jabari Parker, Demetrius Jackson, and James Young
MSU's prime targets in 2014 are Cliff Alexander, Tyus Jones, Jahil Okafor, Drake Harris, and JaQuan Lyle
MSU is targeting some very high level players over the next couple cycles.
Demetrius Jackson had a Michigan offer before Derrick Walton committed. And MSU was pursuing Walton before his U-M commitment.
Please explain to me how Beilein is beating down Izzo in recruiting when he has got NOBODY to commit that has a MSU offer, while just this year Costello, Kaminski, and Valentine - all MSU commits - had UM offers. This whole thread has been quite entertaining.
OK, so Belein is not beating down Izzo in recruiting. Got it.
Recruiting class ratings. 2012 and 2013 classes appear to be higher ranked than Izzo's classes, at least thus far for 2013. No, they don't butt heads like Hoke/Dantonio, but that doesn't negate the fact that recruiting experts believe Bielein is bringing in more talent than Izzo these days.
Ummm...MSU doesn't have any commits yet for 2013 so I'd hope you'd have a better class so far. The huge targets - primarily Jabari Parker - are still on the board. That doesn't even take into account the fact that MSU is in on four of the top 20 for 2014 - not even including the fact that Drake Harris will likely take a football scholarship assuming he commits. 2013 and 2014 might be Izzo's best classes yet...not bad considering 2012 was a Top 10 class.
UM is NOW in football, a new coach in Hoke who takes UM to an 11-2 record with a BCS bowlgame win. UM is winning in recruiting beause everyone is hearing about them. YES, kids know about the past and that will get players to consider schools because of hearing about them but that doesn't mean he will choose UM just because historically they are better. History especially doesn't make a team better than another when that team has a better team at the moment (UM basketball to MSU's).
Explain how ALL of MSU's 2012 basketball commits had UM offers. Meanwhile, not one of UM's 2012 basketball commits had an MSU offer. There is no way UM is beating MSU in basketball recruiting. Football, you have a case.
That is correct. And we have downright embarrassed them in cases like Maurice Hurst and Pat Kugler. And hopefully Michael Ferns will follow suit and commit without ever visiting MSU. That would be very LOL Sparty, if you will. But in basketball, we haven't won a heads-up recruiting battle in ages. I don't think we've really had one in a while, but we aren't exactly pulling guys with serious interest in MSU. The McGary pull was huge on a national recruiting stage, but Beilein's MO has been getting on guys before any big programs have interest. I can't wait to see some in-state recruiting battles now that our team has been roughly as successful over the past few seasons and also now that we have the new facilities for hoops. Should be fun.
Izzo and Dantonio will say just about anything to get a recruit - just ask Dion Sims how he's enjoying his time with sparty basketball...
Sims decided not to play basketball. The offer was there but he decided to focus on football.
He doesn't care anymore... He's got hundreds of laptops....
I find it interesting that you say MSU's basketball is currently better than UM's considering, you know, MSU has lost three of the last four times the two teams have played.
Pretty sure MSU went to the final four in 1999. Oh wait, they went there in 09 and 10 too. You sold them short 3 years in being dominant over you.
mods can you please ban this user... he has done nothing but troll
What happened on 3/8/12 to have you create an account over here? Did you lose your virginity and mistakenly thought this was the place for the "Bump when laid" thread?
Because Michigan State has 1 bowl victory in the last 10 years and haven't been to the Rose bowl in over 20 years
You know who else is young? Drake Harris.
Big deal. Look at our football and basketball recruiting classes - they seem to get it. Scarface came out before I was born, but I still watched it. Hell - ND hasn't done shit since any of these kids were born, but they still get recruits. History is not irrelevent.
For every rule though there is an exception. Some young people pay more attention to old history than others, but part of history is the past ten years.
You are right History is not irrelevant. But with that said, in most cases of recruits, History is NOT a very high priority in what school they choose. It can play a factor into what schools they look but not really what school they choose.
ND is getting the players because its a great school and capmpus. Also as much as I and a lot of other people Hate Kelly, he is a good coach even tho he hasn't had much success at ND YET.
You mean the Pacino Scarface or the old B&W one? Either you people are getting younger or I'm getting older.
I think Dantonio is going to run a 10-wide spread offense since in a year the only decent offensive players they'll have are wide receivers.
You've probably seen this, but it's always worth linking to.
There is some debate as to wether or not any of this is 'within the spirit' of the rules. I think it's fun.
He's been caved.
He must be visible only on the app, because I don't see any of his posts.
you'd need a ticket to Bolivian to see THE PARTY ROOM.
Nah, just an the iPhone app. He's blocked on the Drupal version of the site, but not the mobile one.
welcome DH
THANK YOU. DH
Probably had to move up his decision date since Dantonio told him they were almost full at the players named Harris slot(especially with '13 WR Jay Harris committing earlier today).
MSU's 2013 recruiting is becoming something to watch. They have, I think, 5 scholarships left, and they need basically all of them to be offensive or defensive linemen. Outside of Riley Norman, I'm not sure who of note they can get. Dantonio is going to need some beneficial attrition and/or scouting miracles to compete in the trenches in a few years' time. I'm sure SPARTAN NATION believes he can pull it off, but it sure as shit would give me pause.
Why do you say only 5 scholarships left? They only have 10 commits... and they only took 19 last year.
But I agree that it's something to watch. They only took 2 OL and 1 DL last year, and as you pointed out, no OL/DL yet this year. I think Finley (OL who was recently offered by OSU) is thought to be an MSU lean. But man, not sure if all those skill players (4TE, 6WR, 2QB, 3 RB in 2012 and 2013) are going to be able to do much with no O--line.
They only have 15/16 spots this year. The MSU staff wants two OTs, one OG, one DT, one DE , and one SS. We will end up with a good safety. We only need one DE because LT moved to DE from LB. We feel we will get Chicago DE Demetrious Cooper, but ND is also a player in his recruitment. We are in OT Dennis Finley's top two, with the Illini. We are also in WI DE Alec James top four, but everyone knows its a two horse race between us and Wiscy. There are a lot of DTs from down south that are interested in us, and one from the midwest Josh Augusta. Benenoch is still a possiblity for OG if he visits, but we need him to visit.
