Hello: Ben Gedeon
Per Sam Webb, 4* LB Ben Gedeon (OH) has committed to Michigan

The coaches stopped recruiting other LBs a while back when everyone expected Gedeon to commit. They didn't stop for Levenberry, who seems as if he will take his time, so they must have known Ben was going to be on board someday soon.
LETS GOOOOOOOO!
to the Family.

Speaking as an OSU fan I can tell you that Urban def gave Gedeon a commitable offer and we lost this one head-to-head. Great job by Hoke and co. Ultimately won't hurt too much if we can lock up Anzalone (they would play the same position for us) but still hurts to see a talent from Ohio go to that state up north ;)
Congrats again.

Did you read the Ozone article about how Meyer was "dominating" Michigan on the recruiting trail? I think that's been more than disproven at this point. He's going to win some, we're going to win some, but regardless it's a big deal to go down into Ohio and grab one from him.

Yep, I did. Any Buckeye fan that thinks that Michigan won't continue to nab top recruits simply because we have Urban Meyer is naiive. The truth is that Michigan is a top 5 college football institution and any player should be thrilled to go there. Same goes for The Ohio State University. Unless something crazy happens, I expect Michigan and Ohio State to have top 10 classes year in and year out...maybe even top 5 classes year in and year out.
That being said, I do think too much is being made of the whole Hoke v. Meyer recruiting battles. The truth is that both are going after different types of recruits for the most part, especially on offense. Also, we have a small recruiting class this year considering the low number of seniors that graduated and the scholarship losses from the NCAA sanctions--which means that we will be more patient to fill our class since we have to be a bit more selective.
None of this ultimately matters with regard to Gedeon, however. He's a great talent, and one that Urban wanted very much. Most Buckeye fans understood he was likely a Michigan lean (as it seems you guys did, too) so it's not a surprise per se, but it definitely stings.
Just hope we can return the favor with LaQuon Treadwell ;)

Just for $hits and giggles please share your perspective, as a Buckeye on how MSU a (our school up north) nd Dantonio are perceived in Ohio. Please humor me, I have a point other than Lil Bro is still insignificant.

Michigan State is a second-tier football team. They'll field a good team every once in a while, but they don't belong in the conversation with Michigan and tOSU. Every time we play MSU we expect to win. Period. I can't say the same with Michigan--even when we had that run under Tressel against you guys.
We perceive Dantonio a little different than you guys. We don't love the guy at all, but he's not hated per se (like I'm aware he is with your fanbase).
Bielema, on the other hand, we absolutely cannot stand. Like, at all. He's our Dantonio.
April 10th, 2012 at 11:08 PM ^
UFM, do you think Smith will end up at Ohio or ND?
April 10th, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
Unfortunately for tOSU, I think he's a Domer. Hope I'm wrong. Bottom line, I think he's enamored with the idea that he will be the next Manti Te'o (i.e., the centerpiece to the Irish defense). And there's always the "close to home" aspect.
I expect us to nab Anzalone (who Urban's super high on) and Courtney Love (insert drugged out female rockstar joke here). Maybe one more (Kimbrough, if he's offered, would be my guess). Seems to me like Urban isn't as worried about the LB position in this class seeing as we had a good haul in the 2012 class (and we have a lead with some sick LBs in the 2014 class). If we lose out on Anzalone (to Florida, for instance), we are in some trouble. Anzalone fills a need at the Mike (which, by the way, Gedeon would have filled...sigh).

You. You can stay.
Don't get your hopes up on Treadwell though. Hoke called "dibs" a long time ago.
April 10th, 2012 at 11:38 PM ^
Haha fair enough. I agree that he's all but a Wolverine. One thing that will make this interesting is that he strikes me as the type of recruit that loves the recruiting process. I'd be shocked if he commits anywhere in 2012--he'll drag this one out and milk it for all it's worth.
Sidenote--any interest on this board to have an OSU fan (i.e., me) post a thread every once in a while giving you guys a rational OSU fan's perspective on the OSU recruiting situation? I'm not an insider, but I subscribe to a lot of insiders and am generally pretty well tapped in, so to speak. Anyways, I'm always interested to see what the "enemy" is up to (hence, I'm here posting on your blog) so I figured I'd offer my services to give you guys a glimpse. Just a thought.

Short answer: yes.

but thinking "RDT" when I read your posts?
Naw...nevermind.

Hahaha. I presume you're referring to Roll Damn Tide. I like that kid, but unlike him, I can't think of two nice things to say about Nick Saban.

Very excellent pickup! Will someone remind me which LB position he projects to again?
April 10th, 2012 at 10:54 PM ^
Probably MIKE.
April 10th, 2012 at 11:10 PM ^
At 6'3, wouldn't he also be a good prospect for SAM?
April 10th, 2012 at 11:13 PM ^
From what I've read, probably not, which is why we brought in McCray and are still going after Levenberry. He seems more like an inside linebacker to me, like Joe Bolden (who I believe is 6'3").
I've also read that 6'2" is a more accurate height for Gedeon.

Welcome aboard young man.

This kid has NFL potential...

It's almost like the coaches knew what they were doing when they told O'daniel we were full. Now will everyone please stop second guessing them.
April 10th, 2012 at 10:11 PM ^
Wait. Our coaches, know what they're doing? Prove it.
April 10th, 2012 at 10:14 PM ^
Pffft. No way. Those guys might be paid to do their job, but I have personally won the national championship multiple times on xbox.
