RR on WTKA this morning: JT Turner still not in
Hopefully they get cleared. That would be awesome - Warren, Boo Boo, Floyd and the waterboy taking reps at CB.

water boy is ok, as long as its not towel boy. we saw how that worked out.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:54 AM ^
canteen boy, either.

he was rough in the spring game, as I'm sure you remember.
not good.....
Sam Webb did say he is still optimistic about Justin Turner. However, we know that the test scores were released on Aug 4. It's Aug 6 today. This is a very troubling development. Last week, RR was saying everyone was in. Something happened. Or didn't. Also, the situation with Jason Forcier does not seem promising. RR said they're still waiting for him to get accepted into grad school. And only then will they have all the pieces they need to submit his waiver app to the NCAA. Sounds very iffy, especially this close to practice starting.
EDIT: RR indicated it is was likely the JT and Witty clearinghouse situations would go into next week. He said he wished these things had been cleared up earlier. Sounded very unhappy about all this.
(A) He was never going to play this year;
(B) if he wants to be moral support he can stand on the sidelines in practice in street clothes, can't he?;
(C) He's applied to Grad School. Professors don't work in the summer - they travel. If Forcier is late on this, he'll have to wait, probably.
In regards to Turner, if the test scores were released on the 3rd to the public, they probably were then sent to the Clearinghouse on the 3rd. The Clearinghouse undoubtedly knows that practice starts on the 10th. If JT passed, he will be on the field on the 10th. Otherwise, the Clearinghouse should be shut down.
But, let's also not forget that the Clearinghouse is probably busy confirming whether Alabama's recruits are eligible. That probably is taking up a lot of their time.
If Tate is seriously injured (please G-D forbid) and Denard struggles and Nick is, well, Nick (love the guy, but ...), Jason would have provided insurance. Especially later in the season after he had weeks of practice to learn the offense.
Nick was absolutely terrible last year, yes. But if Nick is healthy and it's a question as to whether he or Jason Forcier plays, Nick will be in the game. No question.
He'll be handing off 40 times, but he'll be in the game.
Agree, Nick will be much better this year. Really understands the O and reportedly stronger and faster despite the injury. But still, can never have enough depth. There's a reason they're trying to get Jason in.

Is it too late to get Ron Paulus?
(Kidding, kidding)
August 6th, 2009 at 10:59 AM ^
might have confused his name with ron paul?
The Bruno scene comes to mind..
August 6th, 2009 at 11:30 AM ^
Heard he was a lock for 4 Heismans.
August 6th, 2009 at 11:18 AM ^
Did you mean GERG paulus?
i would imagine there's some paperwork (clearinghouse and u-m) that follows the score being released.
Jinxed by comments about being happy that Turner was in when addressing the depth chart yesterday!
Fuuuuucccccckkkkkkkk.
No... not on the rug... man.
If they haven't sumbitted Jason's case to the NCAA, there is no way he is in.
I don't like that two CB's are having clearinghouse issues.
Here's what we have to hope is happening with Turner: the test scores were leaked to him weeks ago. They know he passed (note Webb's still "optimistic.") But as of today, the scores that were officially released a few days ago have not officially made their way to the clearinghouse and the clearinghouse has not officially cleared him to play.
Best Case Scenario planning.
If only this were the case...
How could scores get "leaked" to him? I don't know much about the test, but if, say, I wanted to know my ACT scores weeks early, I can't see how that information would get leaked to me...
I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily, I just find it very hard to believe that test scores were leaked.
Think I remember someone mentioning earlier this summer when there was all the hubbub about his qualification that schools / students could get access to the scores early somehow.
Could have been baseless speculation, but I'm pretty sure someone mentioned it...
weren't a Division I athlete. If you were, your scores would probably have been "leaked" if you needed them.
Yeah, I guess that's what I was getting at... I'm asking because I have absolutely no idea. How easy is it for that to happen? And if they are leaked, can that leaked information be used to qualify him or not? I'd think that even if he knew his score, the clearinghouse would still need to get it officially. If it was leaked and he wasn't actually good to go, what motivation would he have for telling people he was?
....but, the only information that can be used to get him qualified is the information sent to the Clearinghouse.
He may not have, but Rodriguez seemed to be under that impression. Maybe he was just confident because he hadn't heard anything to the contrary.
Anyway, here's hoping this is all sorted out soon.
Over at Scout, the Beav claims he knows what the Turner deal is and "additional stuff was submitted to C-House, they are waiting." If true and he is not bull shitting, this sounds bad. Sounds like he failed the test but has some sort of exception he has submitted to the clearinghouse. Remember, some insiders have said there are "other ways" for Justin to get in besides the test scores. He also said Witty was a surprise (duh!). Speculates that his test was flagged. Not sure what this means. Fraud?
He never said everyone is in. He said, "I THINK everyone is good to go." The freep messed this up, as did Brian.
I posted this in numerous placesduringtne BT media day.
These are the two guys we need to make it for our depth at corner.
We have 3 corners besides those two. We're in trouble if they don't make it, especially if Warren or Cissoko get hurt. JT Floyd starting would not be good. Can we please get Cullen to come in now?
http://mgoblue.com/football/playerbio.aspx?id=181776
says that he is "enrolled in the School of Kinesiology."
Doesn't that mean something?

Regarding Witherspoon and Chambers...
You will realize that sometimes one hand in the University of Michigan administration has little idea what the other hand is doing.
the worst case scenarios playing out before our eyes (two players at one of our thinest positions not qualifying).....Let's hope Germany Shultz best case scenario comes to pass.
This thread is fine and dandy, but shouldn't we all just not panic until the handymen at GBMW chime in with their e-sources. No Sugarcoat.
TURNER maybe in but NOT right now MAY QUALIFY but CLEARINGHOUSE might DENY.
WITTY flagged GOOD kid with low PAD LEVEL but POSSIBLY fraudulent scores on TEST no insider SOURCE just EPINION.
the RANDOM CAPITALIZING shit stopped being funny five months ago.
OH WAIT
It was never FUNNY
August 6th, 2009 at 12:24 PM ^
That FUNNY. You STOPPED being INSUFFERABLE just about now.
OH WAIT. you didn't.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:51 AM ^
please stop. these jokes are old.
Any time you're dealing with a huge bureaucracy, you may just end up waiting for something to get finalized which you have every reason to believe will be finalized but which is taking a long time simply b/c the paperwork is being pushed slowly.
As all have said, sweet jebus i hope he's able to see the field. that being said, nothing is fucked if, and these are big ifs:
1) boo boo and donovan stay healthy
2) mike martin didn't get stung by a bee and is actually as big as he looks in today's countdown to kickoff video & graham is actually as fast as most RB's as he looks to be in the video. long story short (too late!)...VB, Will, Martin, Graham and the others wil have to get a ton of pressure on the qb.
3) equally as stepped up games by the safeties, with Stevie finally having the year we need him to.
As Warren said, GERG is all about playing to your help, if they execute this, hopefully it will mitigate the depth issue at CB.
That said, the team needs these guys for depth and these guys need the reps as early as possible.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:03 AM ^
Obviously we need both, especially Turner. But Turner is our #3 CB and could start sometime during the season if he qualifies. I don't think anyone expects a great deal out of our safeties. Relying on them to stay healthy and play very well is probably not very realistic. Hopefully they play about as good as last year's safeties did (which I know is not very good, but we can't expect much out of a freshman and another guy who has never played either).
This is probably bad. From what I gather RR didn't sound too happy. He said this likely won't be resolved within the next few days. If it was a matter of just paperwork it would probably be done within a few days. They're probably trying to find one of the loopholes or saying he needed extended time because he has a "learning disability" or something of the sort.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:31 AM ^
Yes, that is what it sounded like. And it goes with what Scout is saying, that they "submitted additional information to the clearinghouse." And yes, RR sounded very un-Rod like. He really sounded frustrated.
Goddamn it I hope we aren't going to be dealing with this issue on a yearly basis
August 6th, 2009 at 10:04 AM ^
because it happened at Michigan 3 years in a row, with Lloyd and RR.
With very high unemployment in the state, can't we hire some above average administrative staff? We could even get Law or B-School interns.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:10 AM ^
I might just be ignorant, but what does this have to do with Michigan's administrative staff? It's their own fault fot not being able to pass a test.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:15 AM ^
if it is a paperwork issue (like Artis Chambers not being qualified, but playing in games since no one told Lloyd) or Witherspoon, who magically enrolled at Rutgers just days after not being cleared at Michigan, than it is an administrative problem.
If they just failed, and nobody knew, then that's another case, but our history seems to indicate otherwise.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:44 AM ^
Darrel Givens, a 2009 CB who signed with PSU, just found out he did not qualify at PSU and will be enrolling at...you guessed it, Rutgers.
Does Rutgers have some sort of special dispensation from the NCAA to allow them to take players who don't qualify at other schools?
August 6th, 2009 at 11:13 PM ^
It's a different situation. Givens was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, but did not pass PSU admissions. Once a player is denied admission by a school, his LOI is no longer valid and he can go to other schools.
