OT - Kid Rock serving up some good ole' Freep hate
I've never been a huge fan of Kid Rock, but his response to Susan Tompor's Free Press article on his "Made in Detroit" clothing line has me reevaluating that.
Too bad DB couldn’t have opened with the same line as Kid Rock back during the Freep Jihad presser..
KID'S RESPONSE
Let me first start off by cordially inviting you to go fuck yourself. I have always said that I do care what people in my hometown think of me, and the hatchet job you have just written about The Made In Detroit company in The Detroit Free Press has made me so upset that I am left with no choice but to defend myself and my company.
Dear Susan Tompor,

Calling Section 1.........
February 11th, 2012 at 10:25 AM ^
Kid Rock sucks.
And there's no better way to start a letter than telling someone to "go fuck yourself."
Forgive me if I refuse to take a morality lesson from Bob Ritchie.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:34 AM ^
I think neither person in this arguement is one to take morality lessons. Kid Rock happens to do a lot of charitable things here in Michigan, but one to get your morality lessons from he is not. On the other hand I have yet to read a column from Susan Tompor that does anything but stir the pot to get her more readers, she will say anything for a buck.
No winner here just entertainment.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:57 AM ^
His music may blow, but it is hard to deny his hard work for the community of Detroit. It is unfortunate some dweeb at the Freep decided to write a hit piece on the Kid.
February 11th, 2012 at 11:08 AM ^
with his music? /s
I actually like most of it. His concerts are second to none and puts on a great show. You get your money's worth.
February 11th, 2012 at 4:40 PM ^
Gee: I can't imagine a paragon of ethical and accurate journalism like the Freep intentionally falsifying "facts" or excluding important information from any of their fine pieces.
The bottom line: the Freep will be out of business soon, and they are whoring clicks to stay afloat. It's one thing to piss off Wolverine fans, but another altogether to piss off Kid Rock fans. Whether or not you like his music, a lot of people do. Also, many Detroit loyalists might look at the piece as "shitting where you sleep."
I can't say that I would disagree with them.
February 11th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
I've never like his music, in fact I greatly dislike much of it. But I respect and like him for repping the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan at every chance he gets.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:22 PM ^
Great input! Did you even bother reading up on the issue at hand before spouting off? This has nothing to do with Kid Rock's music( I'm not a fan of it, either), and he's certainly not giving anyone a lesson in morality. He's one of the most outspoken advocates for Detroit and Michigan in general; he does a lot of good things around here, and all he's doing is responding to a hack job by the Freep. I'd like to cordially invite you, Magnus, to go fuck yourself.
February 11th, 2012 at 3:28 PM ^
Go fuck yourself.

Usually not a good way to start a defensive conversation, sounds pretty offensive though.. By the way, never heard of made in detroit, and can guarantee thats for good reason.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:53 AM ^
Made in Detroit's a pretty solid company. I have a couple of their shirts. Here's their link:
February 11th, 2012 at 10:39 AM ^
The most non-talented singing hack I've ever heard. I can't believe Bob Seger lowers himself to this guys standards by associating with him.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:53 AM ^
Seger has golden pipes for sure. Have you ever heard Dana Carvey's parody "Workin' on a Bowel Move"? Maybe a little risky of me to mess with a man's deeply felt musical preferences, though.
February 11th, 2012 at 11:19 AM ^
I believe Seger's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, let me know when Kid Rock gets inducted, please, LMAO.
February 11th, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
If you don't think he'll eventually make it you're crazy. Kid Rock's not eligible yet because his first album was only 22 years ago. And if you think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is really a good legitimate final word on who's good and who isn't, you're even crazier.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
If you think Kid Rock will make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you're delusional. Please refrain from posting, as you have no common sense.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
I would bet you on whatever terms you like that he will.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
How about a pair of season tickets to UM football?
February 11th, 2012 at 12:19 PM ^
You're on, if both of us are still posting around here in 2016 when he's eligible. And I'm not saying he'll be inducted right away, but he will make it.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:27 PM ^
Isn't this bet impossible for you to lose? Like, literally? If he doesn't get in for years, his eligibility will never expire*, so you'll never be proven wrong.
*Correct me if I'm mistaken (if there's a weirdo out there who actually pays attention what the eligibility rules are for that sham)
February 11th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
Isn't this bet impossible for you to lose?Well, I'm not stupid. That's the best kind of bet, isn't it? That said, I'm of course willing to put a time limit of some kind on it. Even so, it's a bet that would take years upon years to bear fruit either way.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
He's eligiblein 2015. i could name 50 artists right now that aren't in that are better than Robert Ritchie, if not more.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
When the 2015 voting happens, he won't be, because his first record was released in December. He can't be in the 2015 class.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:53 PM ^
Dude, I just looked at the list, he's eligible in 2015, why would I lie about it?
February 11th, 2012 at 12:56 PM ^
Fine, 2015. Just gives you less time to come up with the money for season tix.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:03 PM ^
You got 5 years, if he's not in by 2020, I want my tix, carry on.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:04 PM ^
Five? Nuts. Even Michael Jackson had to wait three years. Billy Joel and Aerosmith had to wait two. Bob Seger had to wait 12. By your standards I should get a lot more than 12, but I want at least Bob Seger's time.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:27 PM ^
Wait a minute, MGoSoftball says he'd get in today if he was eligible, why do you need 12 years?
February 11th, 2012 at 1:37 PM ^
increases the statistical chances, this is a sucker's bet. I remember in my Stats 101 class the Prof made us all write down our birth month and day (not year). There were 40 in the class, he bet us that there would be a match.
We all said no way. He bet us one free class period for us and we would have to to 5 extra credit questions per week. Everyone took the bet. We lost...twice.
You see statistics are a stuborn thing. Out of 23 random people, there is a 50% chance that 2 of them have the same month and day. If you add more people, it just increases the odds.
So 5 years is a sucker's bet because if he doesnt make it in 2016 for some strange reason, he will withing 5 years. You may not like his music, you may not like him as a person but done ever take a sucker's bet.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:45 PM ^
Because you said Seger "lowers his standards" by associating with him. If you think Kid Rock is a joke compared to Seger, he ought to get more time by your definition. When you think about it, I'm being generous by only asking for as much time as Seger got, so as to put him on Seger's level, which you think he isn't.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:00 PM ^
I'm not a Kid Rock fan because I don'tknow what genra his music falls under and he hurts my ears when he sings. I know he steals riffs fromLynyrd Skynyrd and Warren Zevon, but will someone please explain to me what this hack has done in his music career?
February 11th, 2012 at 1:04 PM ^
require a label or category? Why not just enjoy the music because its music?
February 11th, 2012 at 1:15 PM ^
i believe the Rock and Roll hall of Fame requires a category, no??
February 11th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
See below about mixing of genres. Nobody else does it that effectively. "Stealing riffs" has been pretty common for years. Do cover versions of songs also make one a hack?
February 11th, 2012 at 1:16 PM ^
And you haven't told me what he's done in his career? Seger won Grammy awards and had to wait 12 years, whatt'll put Ritchie in?
February 11th, 2012 at 1:35 PM ^
His list of awards and noms are on his Wikipedia page, I don't feel like listing them. (It's pretty long.) He's got more Grammy noms than Van Halen or the Sex Pistols (among others) so that's not a very good barometer at all.
February 11th, 2012 at 4:46 PM ^
He's got one, count it one, number 1 hit, and he stole the riff(s) from Skynyrd and Zevon? That is worthy of Hall of Fame? You guys don't get it. And howmany Grammys has he won?
February 11th, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
Oh, I bet you can't find any members of the RRHOF who don't have a Grammy or a #1 hit. (By whatever definition of #1.) I mean, really? You think that everyone in the HOF has just piles of Grammys and #1 hits out the wazoo? "Oh, he only had one." You're really, really reaching. Tell me, for example, how many worldwide or US #1 hits The Clash had?
(hint - zero. it's zero. they had one in the UK. just one measly one. This is not to trash The Clash, it's to point out how stupid your standards have become.)
February 11th, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
You don't get it. There's no sense debating this. Kid Rock is just fantastic. Best performer in this century. Will be voted to the Hall of Fame first time. He's got massive amount of hit albums and records. known all around the world for his music. tell me one thing, what does he do to deserve the HOF, name me one thing.
February 11th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
I already told you. He is the only artist out there who can mix rock, hip-hop, and country into one show, one album, and one song, and do it very, very successfully. The rest has been nitpicking over the definition of successful, which by your standards he isn't and by every other reasonable standard in the world, he is. You come up with these things that he hasn't done that you think should keep him out of the Hall of Fame, which are all bullshit because they haven't kept a whole bunch of other artists out of the Hall of Fame. There's a long list of RRHOFers that he's already more famous and more successful than.
You can tell me your definition of a HOF artist and a HOF resume. And when you do, I'm sure there'll be a ton of HOF inductees that don't fit it. But we're not debating your standards, we're debating theirs. Which are pretty capricious. But I'm going on record right now as saying Kid Rock will be in. No question about it. I only wish I could see your face when they announce it.
February 11th, 2012 at 7:45 PM ^
1) KR represents very well
2) His music is good but some dont like it
3) He will be in the RR HOF by 2020.
4) Someone will be owing 2 sets of MFB Season Tix
February 11th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
go ahead and agree to disagree for the two of you. The bet has been made. I propose 2025 as a compromise date on induction or non-induction. We will all wait until then with baited breath!
February 12th, 2012 at 12:01 AM ^
I'm a new user, so maybe this has already happened, but I have always wondered what would happen to a message's window if people replied enough times to reach the right border. This particular chain is getting close, and it resembles columns in a newspaper, minus the justification alignment.
February 12th, 2012 at 12:07 AM ^
I'll make it a little closer by agreeing on a 2025 deadline, and just to see if I can break the website: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious antidisestablishmentarianism.
February 16th, 2012 at 1:20 PM ^
You can barely squeeze across three words at this point. Time to put away our extensive vocabularies.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
go to futurerocklegends.com, and you have the year everyone is eligible.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:56 PM ^
Eligible in 2015 for the ceremony in 2016.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:40 PM ^
KR could get in today if he was eligible. You need to understand how the voting works.
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
So KR first major label release was 1998 with Devil. His first album was Grits Sandwiches in 1990 under Jive Records but was dropped. KR's own, Top Dog Records, pick it up
. TOP DOG = POT GOD a reference from one of his hits "I am the Bull God". It is also a shout out to Romeo Mi where the High School mascot is the Bulldogs.
So if the RRHOF counts 1998 Devil as the first major release, then Kid is not eligible until 2024. There is a lot of time to win more awards in 12 years. He may not be a first ballot but he will get in. He is very popular with industry executives for his easy going nature and his understand of business. KR is a true professional.
