The "Five of Diamond's" theory

Submitted by michelin on

On the scout board, there is an interesting discussion of Diamond’s apparent statement that he will “shock the world” tomorrow.   Is it bad news or is it a reference to the Fab Five (offensive line commitments at UM, if he comes).

I call this the “Five of Diamond’s” theory (ie the theory that Diamond  was referrring to the (Fab) FIve when he said he would shock the world.).   And if he picks UM, I will give him Michelin's FIve Diamonds award.

SCOUT BOARD

“Sam Webb interviewed Hoke yesterday at the WTKA Signing Day Extravaganza. And Webb asked Hoke about the possibility of landing any more kids. Hoke replied something like "a Texas sized piece and an Alaska sized piece". To me that says he means two large players. So obviously the staff is holding out hope for landing either or both of these kids.

Unfortunately I'm starting to get a feeling we land neither. Think I read on ******* last night that Jordan Diamond tweeted he's going to shock the world. Well going to Michigan will not shock anybody. So it would have to be a team people hardly expected him to go to. So that puts Auburn,Wisconsin and who knows? maybe even something crazy like OHIO. “

“Could it be that Diamond is referencing the fab five when Juwan Howard said they were gonna "shock the world"? He was also another Chicago boy. Diamond is going blue and Kozan is going Auburn... Book it.”

“I hope that's what he meant.”

A poster on the r*ivals board also takes the statement as a reference to the "Fab FIve" and believes that it is not only a good omen for UM.   As a member of a school that competes with UM, he regrets that it is now a foregone conclusion that Diamond will pick UM.”

“I thought something similar.... But he has kept things so close to the vest it is hard to really get a feel.”

“I think you're spot on here”

”He has been coy. But he also said at the beginning he was going to go thru the process. He took all his officials and yet he has been to UM like 6 times. I think this is a kid who was always going blue, yet he wanted to enjoy the trips plus get some exposure for his boys at Simeon High.”

I misread the post and thought you were referring to the "five diamonds award" given to the best insurance salesman in the movie "Cedar Rapids" solid flick

I think it's bad news. The Fab Five have faded from most people's memory, and Diamond's generation is too young to remember them. It probably means that he's going to a school that he previously eliminated or that hasn't been mentioned in connection with him.

1.  Diamond IS a smart kid who is clever enough to reference the Fab Five and allude to the possibility of a new Fab Five (offensive linemen).   In that case, he's a lock for UM.

2. Diamond IS NOT a smart kid, in which case he'll go to Auburn or somewhere else.

I don't know his background well enough to say whether he IS or IS NOT a smart kid.  But his intelligence may provide a good clue as to what he'll do.

This will be over soon (though Kozan is still out there...dammit.)

One quick point...Diamond wasn't even ALIVE when Juwan made that statement...which means, I am REALLY old.

Damn my gut!  It has been right for each of the late recruits except Grant.  I hope I'm wrong but I dont' think we pull Diamond...although, if that is true, I do think we land Kozan.  I'm cool with that.  I wonder how many of the visits Diamond made to UM were related to seeing his buddy Bryant?  I tend to agree that if he is waiting this long then maybe his heart is really somewhere else.  Hope I'm wrong.  I still see Ohio having a chance to add Diggs or Diamond....and that just doesn't seem fair.  lol.

I sure hope he wasnt referencing this video and heading to Ohio:

On a side note, Im curious to see how well recruits that sign late end up performing in their careers.  Does signing late generally equate to a "Primadonna" type personality  (ie T Pryor)?

I wonder if Diamond could have delayed his choice not to create drama for himself but to publicize UM's OL class.  The delay would gain more press than if lumped in with all the other NSD decisions.   Following Diamond's clue, the class could then possibly be labelled by the press as the new "Fab FIve".

Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but it could explain why he might choose UM despite an otherwise perplexing delay.

So, if we only can get one guy, would we be better off with the higher rated Diamond, or with Kozan who fills a position of serious need?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. "Shock the world" is not a term synonymous to the Fab Five nor is it likely that Diamond is aware of anyone in the Fab Five saying it. The kid was born after the Fab Five had splintered. He probably can't even name all five players.

However, I recall one of the recruits using this phrase many months ago, referring to a possible group of five players in the class.   I have not yet found who said it, possibly because I haven't had the time to scour the net for old statements by recruits.   Possibly, someone else here has a better memory than I do and can help me out with this.

The other day mentioned this, I can't remember who but Diamond has visited many times, tight with Chris Bryant, said the right things, etc. But hasn't committed yet? Why not? I just think it would have happened already...not even thinking about him, if he comes, great, if not, oh well...

Over this shit is nuts.  It's a fucking high school kid trying to figure out where to go to college.

And some school lob lots of nookie at him.

Education?  Or pussy?
