Update Opponent Plausibility
Time to update the plausibility of the opponent for the 2010 opener. From Angelique Chengelis:
There is one change, however. The prevailing thought among the media was that the team would be among these four that have an open date next fall -- Virginia, Duke, Pitt and Oregon State. A Michigan official told me today those schools are not candidates and suggested it's very likely the team involved will be making changes to its already existing schedule to make room for Michigan.
OK, so that means just about any team with an open date is possible now. And removes everyone from Brian's list this morning except UConn.
...make your wish list:
(1) West Virginia
(2) Hawaii - just for the return game.
(3) LSU
(4) Florida - first road game outside Florida since 1988.
(5) Oklahoma
While WVU sounds nice and has all the story. For safety reasons, I have reservations about sending our boys down there. Seriously. 3,4, or 5 would be spectacular.
edit: Maybe I don't understand how the open date works, but I was under the impression that in order to get any team of that magnitude you have to do a home and home.
Interesting. The bigger news from the article, however, is that RR appears to be recruiting Jamie Foxx.
Excellent pad level and good acceleration.
OMG Shirtless:
EDIT: How many times are you going to post pictures of guys with their shirts off? First Top Gun, now Jamie Foxx.
Meh, finding pictures gives me something to do at work... you'll notice I also posted pictures of yellow robot wolves and maize wolf sneakers yesterday.
If there were more womens' sports coverage here, maybe this habit wouldn't come across as ridiculously homosexual though.
and an OMG shirtless pic would be encouraged much more.
Haha, its okay I was just trying to give you a hard time.
The first one was funny because it was a famous scene from a movie we all know and love. Subsequent posts have been a little well....disturbing.
Duly noted. Would you please post a list of famous scenes from movies we all collectively know and love so I avoid posting pictures that fall outside those lines?
But he uses drinking as an excuse far too often.
Steamin' Willie Beamon = Tricky Nicky Sheridan?
he can play piano with his eyes closed!!
It's a school beginning with the letter "U"
Uzbekistan A&M...
...again?
Aww dammit! So, its not OSU like THE.MICHIGAN.MAN said. What a liar, I thought he was speaking gospel. That bastard.
It's the University of Ohio State, so he could still be right!
that there is at least one vowel in the schools name too
60/40?
She thinks Fitzgerald Tousssaint is a safety.
He is a RB.
back into the sails of the game aginst LSU, which has been my favorite option so far.
I mean ESPN told me that Les Miles would be our coach.
When can I get excited about this?
(insert confirmation post by Brian here)
Clemson.
I agree... Clemson would actually be really sweet....
I'm trying to think of a few teams that would be easy/ cool to travel to for the away half of the series.....
haha so all of these "possible lists" really dont mean anything? this could be a good surprise since there are now about 343434 teams that we could possibly play.
UCLA would be perfect!
with a 2011 return to the Rose Bowl! That's the ultimate goal anyway, right? "Beat Ohio State, Go to the Rose bowl"
except we suck on the west coast
let's just wait for the annoucement. The anticipation (and speculation) is killing me.
Maybe it's Cal. They would have to move La Tech I think.
I think you're right.
ESS EE SEE!!!
at these schools to see if they have any connections (i.e., past work history) at Michigan. Sometimes, this is how these things work out.
FWIW, Pittsburgh A.D. Jeff Long was director of football operations here in the Mo-Carr era and also worked on Bo's staff.
Plus, the RR-rivalry-with-Pitt storyline would have some legs.
i think i have my guess, then.
FWIW Pitt was one of the schools listed as not a candidate in the original post. Of course, newspaper reporters have been wrong before.
Not sure if this enriches the dialogue.
"U-M is close to signing an opening opponent for 2010, likely on Sept. 4. He said it's a Bowl Championship Series school for a home-and-home series."

If the opponent is willing to adjust their schedule, that could mean moving games around within this season or moving games to which they are commited to a different season. So, it could literally be anyone in the Big East, ACC, SEC, Big XII, or Pac 10. Bring on the list of 65+. I'm with UM Indy, no reason to even try to guess anymore, just wait and see.
For a night game at the big house :).....I would travel to Baton Rouge for this game, no doubt. I went to see LSU play GT for New Years, they bring a crowd and party like no other.
Bring on the Russians!
the nazis!
rang?
I hope it's Cincinnati.
I'd like to see Tennessee, Nebraska, or Texas A&M.
1) Virginia Tech
2) FSU
3) Tennessee
Don't forget about the WAC, they could technically be considered a BCS team right? I'm sure that's not the kinda loophole used to describe our opponent, but could happen.
I just hope we don't play a team that could really beat us up. I know, no risk, no reward. The bright side is if we do lose that first game (which I really don't even want to think about), then we have all season to bust ass and make it back to a BCS or MNC bowl game. I just hated that feeling of losing to a PAC-10 school early in the season and having many of my hopes defeated so quickly. Hopefully we don't go all the way west, we haven't done well there recently, although we do have this relatively new coach.
