Late Afternoon Games Open Thread
With So. Miss polishing off a big win vs. Houston, we can look forward to this afternoon's late games:
Iowa St. at #11 KSU - FSN (currently 17-13 K-State at half. They could get a BCS spot if TCU is unable to move up)
UNLV at #18 TCU - Vs. (currently 21-3 in 2nd. See BCS potential)
#22 Texas at #17 Baylor - ABC (No, Baylor will not be in BCS)
#14 Georgia vs. #1 LSU - CBS
Hopefully this last weekend will deliver some more good games. Discuss and enjoy.

Well....I dont have a lot of confidence in Texas just because their offense might be light years behind the 08 RR offense and that is scary.
KSU....wow cant believe the computers love this team I mean they aren't horrible but my lord to me this just shows the crap of the big 12.
and as I type this Texas is down 15 secs into the game...
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
Does Houston losing a home game knock them out of the top 14?
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
Prob not. Seeing that So. Miss is a top 25 team, probably down to about 11/12
But it shouldn't matter as long as LSU wins.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:07 PM ^
Boise dropped like 10 spots when they lost. Whether it's fair or not to Houston they will drop more after losing than if Michigan were to lose 49-28.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
And 7 of the 28 came in garbage time.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
Probably. According to that BCS sim floating around, LSU still needs to beat Georgia. So, go Tigers. They're probably going to the BCS game either way, so might as well root for them to win to make sure Michigan goes to the Sugar.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
Losing a home game by 21 points mind you.
I think we pass them!
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
There's no chance Houston stays ahead of Michigan after crapping the bed at home. Houston is out. Michigan moves up a notch.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
Does an Ok State win put them above Alabama? I really, really, really hope not. It would really suck to play Alabama twice in a row.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
It would have to be a win big enough to change the voters midns. Currently, Ok. State is ahead of bama in the computers. A big win may convince voters that they are deserving.
It would have to be 21+ point victory in my mind.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
Alabama would still probably go to the fiesta Bowl, but it would definetly take some luster out of next year's matchup if we played them back to back.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
Since LSU would be in the title game, doesn't the Sugar get first choice to replace their tie-in?
Wouldn't they take Bama?
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
Due to the pick order, we would probably go Fiesta and not Sugar in that situation.
Order is:
Team being replaced in title game
Fiesta
Sugar
Orange
So with LSU/Bama it's Sugar/Fiesta/Sugar/Orange
With LSU/Okie State it's Sugar/Fiesta/Fiesta/Sugar/Orange
We're first at large pick if it's LSU/Bama, second (behind Alabama) if it's LSU/OkSU
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
I don't think Michigan and Alabama will be in the same bowl as they would be the first two picks. Alabama in the Sugar puts us in the Fiesta I would think.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
Baylor stomping texas early with 2 quick TDs. 14-0.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
OK ST would have to beat the sooners by 35 or more I think to even have a chance of jumping bama. I mean it would have to be a laugher.
and Texas is doing us no favors at all. good lord mack brown do something for petes sake.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
So much for Texas's defense being on fire.....
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
You're on fire when you're getting torched... just sayin'
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
Eh, I don't think Baylor jumps us. Its not like we got rocketed up the standings after our curb stomping of Nebraska.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
A Baylor jump above Michigan with a win over Texas today concerns me...please talk me down
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
I'm fairly certain it concerns us all.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:02 PM ^
Michigan has lost 2 games.
Baylor has lost 3.
We're Michigan, fergodsakes.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
Baylor is already way ahead of us in the computer polls without much room to move up at all, yet still behind us. Voters are most likely going to see that 3rd loss and hesitate to push them too far up the rankings chart.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
The computers love the big 12 so a Baylor W is not good
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
Is Mack Brown a good coach? I mean, it seems like with Texas being able to assemble number 1 recruiting classes without leaving their state that Texas should be better, right?
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:07 PM ^
Even though they have crazy recruiting classes...Injuries and Garrett Gilbert sucking really f*cked them over.... Can't expect to win with a first year starter QB who isn't named Cam Newton.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
But this is asked on all game relevant forums. First row sport has next to every game on there. Jus' sayin'
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
Probablly because flash doesn't work on Ipad.
The skyfire app should let you play it.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
Mack losing Muschamp is a big problem...and him getting away from the spread has killed them on offense. Then you add in that apparently mack thought Colt McCoy was never going to leave and never bothered to bring in a good QB to replace them.
He's at the end of his career much like Bobby Bowden was..
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
Bowden had a much longer and better career than Mack Brown ever did. I mean, didn't they finish in the top 5 for like 15 years straight or something?
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
and once Miami/Va Tech came over from the big east FSU took a HUGE swan dive. Not saying that Bowden was bad but once the conference got stronger FSU lostr their stronghold in almost record fashion.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
Losing Muschamp was a problem, but Texas' defense has improved this year under Miss St's former DC.
Texas has had a terrible time running the ball with RBs sense Benson left. Even Charles wasn't nearly as good at Texas as he was last year in Kansas City. QBs have dominated the run game for Texas for a while. They needed to learn how to run the ball and without a couple very very good college football QBs they would be screwed if they stuck with the status quo. Their O-line has been keeping them back big time, thus they made a ton of offseason changes, including bring in Wisc. former O-line coach, Boise's former OC, and the Miss St. DC. Those are some of the best in the business, the team is just young and needs to learn fundamentals all over again.
And Mack Brown didn't recruit QBs? He's brought in over a QB a year sense '06. Snead ('06) was one of the best in the nation, transferred. Brought in a 3-star for depth ('07). They missed on one in '08 (because they were supposed to have good depth), so they brought in 5-Star Gilbert in '09, and McCoy's younger brother and 4-star Wood in '10. Gilbert was essentially a bust, but that's some of the better QB recruiting in the nation that hit some bad luck. I don't think you can entirely say he's done a bad job with recruiting any position.
They problem for Texas has been poor coaching the last couple years and too much reliance on one position (QB). You cannot fault recruiting though, if anything recruiting has been phenomenal, it's been coaching. They needed to make major overhauls and did, now they are finding out how to actually play football again.
December 3rd, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
Texas' problem in terms of running seems to be the offensive line. Multiple times this season they've been dominated at the point of attack.
December 3rd, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
I think they actually start like 2 Freshman on the line. This is because the O-line has been a problem for a while as I said. They are all finally learning how to block and putting the right kind of strength on them.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
what a sweet catch by Irby in the texas/baylor game....
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
SEC Champ has kicked off for those not knowing already.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
Mack Brown is an embarrassment. His recruiting advantage leaves him no excuse.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
It feels dirty to say this, but GEAUX TIGERS!
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Wow. gutsy call.
Also, Iowa State ties up KSU. Would help us move up.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
Success... Wow! Richt has balls of steel for that call
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
good lord....come on LSU...not a good start in every game we need today.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
Wow! Georgia pulling out the onside kick in the first 5 minutes.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
jesus....LSU couldn't have come out any less prepared. This is really bad prep on Miles.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
ISU tied it up at 20 but KSU is about to score again. I just don't see KSU being better than Michigan.
Hopefully LSU will beat GA though, though it looks like a tough game.
We need some loses by GA, KSU and OU with a most likely Balyor win. What's left of the Big 12 is way overrated IMO!!!! I can't believe a 3 loss team will jump us in the polls?
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
Baylor is not a concern.
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
I don't think people understand how BCS rankings work. Baylor have a huge advantage over michigan in the computer polls. the human polls in the BCS are weighted based on VOTES, not overall rank. If baylor stays 18 in the human polls, but gets enough more votes, they may very well pass michigan.
December 3rd, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
will not only not travel well, but will fail to draw the ratings an UM team will. Yes, having RGIII is a selling point, but UM has Denard. From a business and college football standpoint, Baylor over Michigan is an epic fail. If that happens I think the system will finally be blown up because no one not a Baylor fan would think Baylor ought to get in over Michigan.
The BCS is a fucking mess. No way should a three loss Baylor ever surpass a two loss Michigan. Whomever designed the computer system is a clown.
