Late Afternoon Games Open Thread

Submitted by jcgold on

With So. Miss polishing off a big win vs. Houston, we can look forward to this afternoon's late games:

Iowa St. at #11 KSU - FSN (currently 17-13 K-State at half.  They could get a BCS spot if TCU is unable to move up)

UNLV at #18 TCU - Vs. (currently 21-3 in 2nd.  See BCS potential)

#22 Texas at #17 Baylor - ABC (No, Baylor will not be in BCS)

#14 Georgia vs. #1 LSU - CBS

Hopefully this last weekend will deliver some more good games.  Discuss and enjoy.

Well....I dont have a lot of confidence in Texas just because their offense might be light years behind the 08 RR offense and that is scary.

KSU....wow cant believe the computers love this team I mean they aren't horrible but my lord to me this just shows the crap of the big 12.

and as I type this Texas is down 15 secs into the game...

Due to the pick order, we would probably go Fiesta and not Sugar in that situation.

Order is:

Team being replaced in title game

Fiesta

Sugar

Orange

So with LSU/Bama it's Sugar/Fiesta/Sugar/Orange

With LSU/Okie State it's Sugar/Fiesta/Fiesta/Sugar/Orange

We're first at large pick if it's LSU/Bama, second (behind Alabama) if it's LSU/OkSU

OK ST would have to beat the sooners by 35 or more I think to even have a chance of jumping bama. I mean it would have to be a laugher.

and Texas is doing us no favors at all. good lord mack brown do something for petes sake.

Is Mack Brown a good coach? I mean, it seems like with Texas being able to assemble number 1 recruiting classes without leaving their state that Texas should be better, right?

Mack losing Muschamp is a big problem...and him getting away from the spread has killed them on offense. Then you add in that apparently mack thought Colt McCoy was never going to leave and never bothered to bring in a good QB to replace them.

He's at the end of his career much like Bobby Bowden was..

Losing Muschamp was a problem, but Texas' defense has improved this year under Miss St's former DC.

Texas has had a terrible time running the ball with RBs sense Benson left.  Even Charles wasn't nearly as good at Texas as he was last year in Kansas City.  QBs have dominated the run game for Texas for a while.  They needed to learn how to run the ball and without a couple very very good college football QBs they would be screwed if they stuck with the status quo.  Their O-line has been keeping them back big time, thus they made a ton of offseason changes, including bring in Wisc. former O-line coach, Boise's former OC, and the Miss St. DC.  Those are some of the best in the business, the team is just young and needs to learn fundamentals all over again.

And Mack Brown didn't recruit QBs?  He's brought in over a QB a year sense '06.  Snead ('06) was one of the best in the nation, transferred.  Brought in a 3-star for depth ('07).  They missed on one in '08 (because they were supposed to have good depth), so they brought in 5-Star Gilbert in '09, and McCoy's younger brother and 4-star Wood in '10.  Gilbert was essentially a bust, but that's some of the better QB recruiting in the nation that hit some bad luck.  I don't think you can entirely say he's done a bad job with recruiting any position.

They problem for Texas has been poor coaching the last couple years and too much reliance on one position (QB).  You cannot fault recruiting though, if anything recruiting has been phenomenal, it's been coaching.   They needed to make major overhauls and did, now they are finding out how to actually play football again.

ISU tied it up at 20 but KSU is about to score again. I just don't see KSU  being better than Michigan.

Hopefully LSU will beat GA though, though it looks like a tough game.

We need some loses by GA, KSU and OU with a most likely Balyor win.  What's left of the Big 12 is way overrated IMO!!!! I can't believe a 3 loss team will jump us in the polls?

will not only not travel well, but will fail to draw the ratings an UM team will. Yes, having RGIII is a selling point, but UM has Denard. From a business and college football standpoint, Baylor over Michigan is an epic fail. If that happens I think the system will finally be blown up because no one not a Baylor fan would think Baylor ought to get in over Michigan.

The BCS is  a fucking mess. No way should a three loss Baylor ever surpass a two loss Michigan. Whomever designed the computer system is a clown.
