META: Looking to get banned from MGoBlog?
This thread is a public service announcement to any of those MGoReaders that are looking for a sure-fire way to get to Bolivian . . . Inasfar as this moderator is concerned, the fastest and easiest way to get banned from the site (if I have any say in the matter) is to "out" a fellow member of the community or other nameless celebrity/personality.
Do not - I repeat - DO NOT post any personal information about a fellow MGoMember without prior written approval.
References to fellow readers are acceptable (as long as it is positive and not argument-inducing). For example: "Lloyd Brady is awesome" OR "Profitgoblue is extremely intelligent" OR "StephenRKass has a great username." (oops!)
But consider yourself forewarned: If I see or if anyone notifies us in the Moderator Action Sticky (link at top of page) that you are "outing" a fellow member, I will do everything in my power to make sure that you are not able to post again.
Thank you, and have a nice day.

Don't disagree with your post, but, as said before:
- Sometimes you need to educate idiot posters (i.e.,. the one referenced above,) who don't have malevolent intent.
- What people post about themselves is fair game. Like idiot usernames (looking at self.)
- A certain amount of personal stuff is inocuous (like what six zero covers in his famous mgoposter interviews over at the HOF.) You prob. should add Ace & Heiko to this.
- A select few (Brian, TomVH) are already in the public sphere, and as such, there is a fair amount of "public" info and ID already up.
So I'm curious . . . how many of you muckety mucks have multiple personas on mgoblog? I'm wondering if Brian or TomVH sign in under a different username on occasion, kind of like the Emo guy did.

I'm convinced. Although it is a bit troubling that he continues to ban himself.

I'm sure you have a really cool alternate persona on Mgoblog: StefanRKass

He's climbing my ladder of favorite memes for sure. The finger wag gets me everytime. However, his hugging of the invisible man at the end of the game makes me cry in laughter.

So, I've wondered about the significance of your avatar, profitgoblue. Is this where you work? Where you aspire to work? A symbol of the profit motive?
A more generic question is about mods in general. I don't ask questions about mgouser personal lives. I don't need sordid details of debauchery, city of residence, student status, etc.. But you aren't listed in six zero's bio sketches. With you and other mods and users up in the stratospheric point realm (above 10,000, say) a bit of a sketch would be interesting.
A completely different thing, which some engineer should be able to do, would be to tabulate mgouser data. Possible data points of interest:
- Current place of residence, (i.e., AA, Detroit Metro, Michigan, Chicago, NY, International, etc.)
- Age
- Gender
- Income?
- Alumni Status (Student, alum, related to alum, Michigan resident, other.)
- Major, if went to UofM.
- mgoblog usage habits.
I wouldn't want to know the details for any one user, but it would be interesting to know where users are from (i.e., 30% are current UM students, 40% are currently in AA, 40% are between 15 & 20 years of age, 98% are male, 75% majored in engineering, etc., etc.)
Edit: there also is some amount of morbid interest in what causes someone to go Bolivian. I just noticed a user with negative 9,000 some points. That's quite a dubious achievement!
The reality is that this really should be an off-season project. But it would be interesting, nonetheless. I know there are enough computer geeks in the mgouser pool who could put something like this together easily enough.

Sounds like a fairly simple survey monkey with mostly predefined fields + a few user-defined fields could take care of that.
September 19th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
So how many people here actually have their actual names in their actual usernames? Now all you guys have to do to figure out who I am is to look up every oriental Andrew who ever graduated from Michigan... Doh! Is it too late to change my username to non-Oriental non-Andrew???
September 19th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
well, maybe not really, but my real name is one hell of a Porn Name. In fact, its on urban dictionary
September 19th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
WHO WOULD HAVE THEIR NAME AS THEIR USERNAME? ONLY IDIOTS PROBABLY
NOTHING TO SEE HERE
September 19th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
....my real first name is in my signature line. That little tidbit of information is something I really don't mind sharing. Hell, growing up "Lorne", I heard so many mispronunciations that, to this day, I respond to perhaps thirty variations because apparently "Lorne" is tonal in nature and has dozens of valid pronunciations, so in a sense my name is symbolic...of a general American narrowness about naming one's children.
I even gave up my position and employer back in June when there were numerous power outages in Ann Arbor, which I don't mind doing because it was a strange, half-witted public service.
September 19th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
then we know you are automatically Canadian.
September 19th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
Yes, there is an extensive collection of my family relations (sometimes on display, and occasionally sober) in suburban Toronto. I have been caught red-handed.

Yep, only idiots would use their REAL name as their username.
My real name is Bernie Leveshitz, and I'm from the Bronx.

I imagine it would cut down a bit on the belligerent, offensive, name calling posts if people knew your real name, address, license plate #, social security #, ect.
September 19th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
Boys, boys, boys.
It's pretty much standard operating procedure on most boards that I've been on that if you reveal personal information about other posters that is not readily available on that board, you're going to get banhammered.
And, given the world today, if I have to explain to you why, well, you probably shouldn't be running around on message boards in the first place.
September 19th, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
This probably means I'll have to stop calling Tater by his first name in an attempt to finally get him to respond and I'll have to stop calling 03 Blue 07 or whatever his name is by his first name in order to get him to realize that we actually know each other in real life and he doesn't hate me as much as he hates my MGoBlog Persona.
EDIT: Does anyone remember when Brian published McFarlin's full name, email address, and phone number? That was entertaining, people even prank called his mom. Would he have gotten banned under the ProfitGoBlue rule? Or would he get an exemption as owner/operator?
September 19th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
McFarlin was the first thing that came to mind when I read this. Nice flip flop, Brian.

old fashioned board spanking
September 19th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
I don't understand why this was made such a big deal, we have Lloyd Brady watch threads with the guy's picture on here quite often, and that seems to be okay. I don't get why his picture is not considered private, but his facespace page is? I mean if privacy is of concern, then we should stop posting pictures of Lloyd Brady as well.
September 20th, 2011 at 5:34 AM ^
not that it needs explaining, posting pictures and watch threads are in good nature and fun, something even an everyday person would not really mind, given the good nature in which they were posted and the fun "game" it caused, so much that the kid even made shirts about it but when you cross the line with the personal information that may or may not be the same as the mgomeme information without thier permission, thats not so good.
if you cant see why its not cool to out someones personal identity without them consenting, i dont know if even that explaination would help. if they wanted links to thier fb page posted on the boards or everbody to know thier real name and where they lived, they would post it.
September 19th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
It took some scouring, but board user "Brian"'s real name is Brian Cook, and he lives in Ann Arbor.

What about Craig James and his 5 hookers? Is that conversation allowed?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 PM ^
Craig James was at a Civil War re-enactment? And why would he want 5 Hookers? It seems 1 Grant would suffice although that might be overkill (for his own troops).
September 20th, 2011 at 5:37 AM ^
One Grant drank enough for five Hookers, by all accounts.

Why do I know that you're an important moderator of the internet? Because you've drawn attention to it several times this week. Pathetic.
