Martin, Grady, Herron, Troy, Molk, etc.
Classic advice to Beyer -- "stay away from the girls, take care of your business on the field first"

Wonderful, but nothing but trouble in college...

Nice interview. Couldn't help but notice that Herron says "you know" much more often than Hoke says "tremendous."
August 11th, 2011 at 8:21 AM ^
Although it should be noted that Hoke may also say "you know" more than he says "tremendous" too.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:40 AM ^
He said "you know" where more often than both of them combined! Couldn't hardly understand what he was trying to say, though he seemed to believe I "would know".

I counted 57 "ya know"s.

Why would Beyer have questions about the SAM linebacker position? Is there something we don't know?
"I told him if there's anything you want to know about SAM, since I played SAM, I'll be more than happy to help you"
August 11th, 2011 at 12:38 PM ^
I thought Herron was more-or-less saying, "No, I can't tell you about the whole defense b/c I don't know the whole thing myself. I can only teach you about the SAM position b/c that's what I play."

he towers over most of his interview subjects.

Herron is listed at 6'2" so I'm guessing Karsch is an even 7-feet.

"Yeah suuuurrree."

It's crazy to think Doug Karsch graduated from MSU and now has a job as a sideline reporter for Michigan. And his other job comes from a Sparty Slappy Radio Station.

a decent number of people that go to msu but are michigan fans. I know of a couple and I don't know many msu grads....

He couldn't get into U-M, so his choice was to go to his other fav school (Maryland I believe), and pay out of state, or go to MSU and pocket the money (which he used for a trip or something). He never really rooted for the Spartans, and actually got his big break in radio here on WTKA in the afternoons, before they offered him more $$$ (and frankly, job security considering all the changes 1050 has gone through over the years) to go to the station that will not be named.

...Angelique
Chengelis all the time. She seems like she is all Michigan through and through but at the same time she is a loyal OSU fan.

What he says about McColgan...bringing it...is very telling for those that call it manball.
and for those that call it... football and pound the rock... we like our fullbacks

Glad to see the dong forrest make a comeback. I thought it left with RR.

One really big advantage for Hoke that has not really come up is the fact that the penalty on practice time was complete in the spring. I mean I love hearing about the focus on technique and the seniors mention how much Hoke has asked them to do to bring the team together. I love that becuase I think the effort in the summer voluntary workouts and the restoration of competitive practice time is going to be a huge advantage for this season over the last season. Sure the usual coach speak is going on from the coaches, but I just can't believe 22 year olds would have learned how to be full of crap when speaking abou themselves and about the team they have taking the responsibility of leading.
I know that they are following the same format of interviewing a different player this year, but the fact that they have only interviewed Seniors so far is telling. Very telling.

It's really great to put a face and personality with the name. We have some well grounded, good guys on our team.

..you know?
August 11th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
Not that the other guys haven't come off this way, but Brandon seems extremely comfortable, mature, and focused. Really cool.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:37 PM ^
Maybe I'm getting old, but I've been struck after the last four or five interviews I've seen of Michigan guys with how well they present themselves and I've thought that they'll do well in job interviews as they go out into the post-college world.

So between Evans, Herron, and Jones who do we think wins the starting WILL LB position?
Or am I missing someone else?
Also, moving Herron from MIKE to WILL in fall camp seems to be an indicator that the coaches feel pretty good with Demens in the middle right? I know we are all pretty confident in him as well, but its good to get that sign from the coaches.
August 11th, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
Maybe the coaches moved him to MIKE as an insurance since demens doesn't really have a backup, but figured out that he might have the skill to contribute elsewhere in less of a backup role. Just a thought.
