Mgoblog got punked
Last night at some point I log into Mgoblog just to see what is going on and this is what I see on the front page. We got tagged by Sparty.
Edit: I can't seem to get the photo up.
I took a screenshot of the front page and at the top was an add for Spartan Football.

More than happy to have Sparty fund our site. I mean, come on...they are not going to get any sales from here, and Brian gets to pocket a little cash. I am all for robbing sparty blind.

Those ads tend to say more about the user than the site (or a combination of the two). I am followed around by penis enlargement ads just because one time someone hacked my computer, just like what happens to all the celebrities and NFL players, and must have done a search for "penis enlargement". I, of course, have no need to do such a search.
Are you a closet State fan? Or, was your computer just 'hacked' once also?

I'm sure it was because someone hacked your computer...

This is one of those "My dog ate my homework" kinda guys

"I'm not worried, they are just friends" kinda guy.
Braylon's twitter got hacked in the same manner you are describing.
I'm sure that's what happened, Senator Weiner...
I freaked out a bit when the ad above one of the Austin Hatch articles was a series of links to local brain rehab centers. So they've got my zip code, but other than that it was the page content. And a lack of marketing restraint.
I was on a family member’s computer during football season who is a Spartan. The only ads were for penis enlargement, erectile dysfunction, and pleas to buy Spartan Football tickets. From that moment on I understood his anger was not directed at me. Can you imagine the personal hell he is living as a Spartan Fan?
And must have searched "Brooklyn Decker naked". Now I'm plagued with ads for naked celebrity sites, bastards.

you see, now I am left fighting the need to run that search myself, lest I suffer the same consequences.

Yeah, readers of this blog are going to RUN to that AWESOME STADIUM to see a FOOTBALL JUGGERNAUT and NATIONAL POWER coached by AMERICA'S FAVORITE COACH.
And they have COOL NEW UNIS TOO!
/sarcasm=off
Moe, I just watched you take on in the eye on AMC!

Ha. Let 'em fund our site. It's just sad that they always have to put billboards and the like to sell tickets...

Everyone's ads will be slightly different. It's based off of sites that you checkout. Say you were on Hugo Boss, for the next couple days you're going to have some of their ads. Theyre betting that you go back to their site.

They must be trying to convert me into a Green Dragon. NEVAH!!!!

they're called retargeting or behavioral targeting ads. All based from on where you've been before or a certain set of behavioral that makes the ad server believes you will visit. My guess is that they paid for a shitty ad platform, because they should prob put in a business rule to not serve on sites like these.
And definitely not from checking out Spartan stuff online. The ad I keep getting is for ActionSportsArt.com where they sell prints and canvases, which makes sense based off my Google-ing. I think it's their bad for using a Spartan ad for their site here, not actually MSU
another possibility is that they geo-targeted you, if you live near lansing
I live right outside of Raleigh, NC and get NCSU ads all the time on here.
seems like wasted marketing
you'd think so, but banner ad space are so cheap these days, especially on blogs, you get 1000 impressions (ads served) for a couple bucks.
Widely available in bulk ... $334 on stubhub for a season package can't generally sell out a 77,000 seat stadium with an enrollment of 50,000. So I can see why they need to advertise.

What are you trying to say here? MSU has a bigger enrollment than UofM with a stadium that seats 35,000 more. Lansing and East Lansing are also bigger cities than Ann Arbor. They shouldn't have a problem selling out Spartan Stadium (except for the fact that no one likes that fucking team except students and alumni)
I think the ad bot type stuff comes up with your interest in "college football" & "Michigan" and "Michigan" State "College Football" fits the bill to display
USC had an ad up on this site too.
The double
And the triple
When I look at the ads on my page, I keep seeing Pottery Barn Kids. Either I need to stop buying my kids' affection, or I need to ask where the hell my Visa has been when my wife comes back from the mall....
I clicked on it. Stole some money from sparty
