Kalis & Wormley

Submitted by jbibiza on

I just listened to the Recruiting Roundup podcast and Sam was clear that he did not expect any commitments from these two on SATURDAY.  Excuse the caps lock but I felt that Sam was giving a hint by continually saying the word SATURDAY with extra emphasis - perhaps meaning that committments are more likely on Sunday/Monday?  Maybe just wishful thinking/hearing on my part, but in any event  he reaffirmed that we are looking very good for both of these guys.

Let me preface this by saying, its PATHETIC that 30- and 40-year old grown men with wives, families, jobs and regular lives are F5ing all day to find out the latest whims of 17 year old high school kids on summer break.  Who don't even look good in bikinis.

But -- we're all giddy about the OL and DL, and maybe a S or RB, but what about QB.  Keil (Kiel?) supposedly was going to announce then pulled back, but what's the rumor on his timing.  Is it still near-term?

And, if it was Michigan that "caused" him to reconsider what he was going to say -- what was THAT supposed to mean.  Do I take it to mean, he was going to commit to someone else (IU, OU), but Hoke got in his ear and said, wait a bit and check out the OL we're assembling for you?  Wouldn't you think there would be some Twitter chatter of Kiel/Keil and Kalis/Diamond etc., you know, are we doin this thing, etc.

The only certainty with Kiel is that he held off on a decision and no one knows who's in play for him. He keeps things quiet so all anyone can do is speculate.

If we were to land a highly-rated QB this class, my guess is it would be Mauk instead of Kiel.

Kiel has been pretty quiet with basically rumors being attached to him.  It doesn't sound good for Michigan but you never know.  It sounds like right now it's between Missouri and Indiana with Oklahoma still in the mix.  Michigan and Alabama are longshots from what I've been hearing.

But like I said, a lot of this is rumor based.

EDIT:  Also, forgot to mention that according to a few things I've read recently, he wants to make his decision before July, so we'll know soon.

Read this free Scout article on OSU scout site: http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/1081569.html

“An old coach told me, ‘When you commit somewhere you want to make it solid,’ ” Peterson said. “I always correlate it to getting engaged. When you get engaged, you want to make it solid. If you have a doubt, then guess what? You probably shouldn’t be engaged. We’ll get married in February, but if you have questions then guess what? We don’t want to be engaged. We don’t want to have a commitment.

“We want guys who are solid and confident in what they want to do. Those are the kind of guys we want at Ohio State.”

Kalis to Peterson: "But coach, you cheated on me?"

I think Peterson was misquoted.  I think what he actually said was: "An old car dealer told me, 'When you take a car for a test drive, you want to make it solid.  You don't just want to drive it around the block a few times and then take it back to the lot.  You want to take it home with you for a couple weeks and be sure to drive it across state lines.'  What I've always equated it to is getting a tattoo.  If you're at the parlor and you're not sure whether you want to flaming Buckeye or the 'I heart Brutus' then you probably don't need to be getting that tattoo, even if they will do you a half-sleeve for free.  Those are the kind of guys we want at Ohio State."

I don't know where that reporter came up with the nonsense about engagements and marriage and stuff.

That this came from a coach that Kalis supposedly had been building a relationship with for litterally years.  How can any coach take a shot at a 17 year old kid for pursuing other opportunities because OSU brought huge sanctions and penalties on themselves.

When Dee Hart de-committed, how did Hoke & Co. react?  Thought so.

I hear Dunn's name quite and bit and I know Tom keeps mentioning how close to the vest he and his family like to keep things, but I'm not at all ready to put him in the possible-to-likely category.  I have no inside information or anything other than my own gut feeling.

I hope I'm wrong.

I actually disagree.  I have no info, but here is my reasoning, which assumes rational thought by Dunn:

Dunn committed to OSU, which runs a fairly pro-style attack behind a traditionally big O-line.  From his committment, we can assume that (1) he wants to be in the midwest and/or B10, (2) he wants to play in a pro-style set (he is 6'2", 220ish, so makes sense), and (3) he probably wants to go to a big name school.  If he is smart, we can also infer that (4) he wants to go to a school that will provide him a dominant O-line to run behind because that is probably the biggest determining factor of a RB's success.

Michigan satisfies all of these criteria - midwestern/B10 school, running a power-style pro-style offense perfect for a big back, big name school, and if we add a few of the OL kids we are expecting to soon drop, by the time that Dunn is a junior, he will be running behind what may be the best O-line in the B10 if not the country.  Seems like a perfect fit.  And, he has said positive things about Michigan.

we can assume that (1) he likes red (2) he loves playing for a team with big-headed mascots (3) he probably wants to live in one of the largest non-descript cities around and (4) doesn't want to be challenged academically by an elite public school education.

Michigan doesn't satisy any of the above criteria - red, mascot, crap city, ease of classwork.

Aha, so maybe DB's whole push for a mascot is aimed at luring Dunn.

Joking aside, I get your point that I am just speculating about Dunn - I came right out and said that in my post.  But, I still think that my point holds and that if Dunn decomitts, the school that is most like OSU from a football perspective would be us.

I did go to GBW (reasonably enough) for a look, and currently the only news they have up is Jeremy Clark, the safety from Kentucky (I feel awkward using the abbreviation "KY"), but maybe that will change later in the day. Otherwise, that is "the one" . . .

I got this from bleacher report so take it which ever way you want but in the article it says that Kalis is certain that Wormley is going to michigan.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/745024-recruiting-5-star-tackle-kyle-kalis-visiting-michigan-other-prospect-updates

For those of you that are strongly agains bleacher report heres the quote

“I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that Wormley is going to Michigan,” Kalis told Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com.

The article is worth reading.

I can totally understand not commiting. If i was getting recruited i would definately wait and take all of my official vistis. They get to go party at college schools while everyone is basically sucking their dicks telling them how good they are the whole time. Who wouldn't want to do that.

My feeling is Kalis commited to OSU and figured he would recruit and get others there..including his pal Strobel..he now sees that is going to be hard with the OSU situation..and Strobel loves UM and commited..and Strobel talked to Kalis about UM..and the recruiter got recruited ... and that should make us all happy because Kalis looks like one hell of Olineman

I was listening on my way into work and thought the same thing.  Sam kept emphasizing Saturday so much it made me think there was more to it.  No gut feeling yet, but it was something I felt like calling him out on too.  This is soo early though.  Makes the offseason fun and keeping up with it all.

With all the negative publicity in Ohio about Kalis decommitting, I could totally see him choosing any school but Michigan.  To the people in Ohio, he at least wouldn't be a judas.  They could understand that he chose a different school, just not Michigan.

his brother Zach was not offered by Rodriguez; Boren's furloughsthat Lloyd allowed so that he could plow driveways were not honored by Rodriguez; Boren did not like getting yelled at by Rodriguez' potty-mouthed staff; Boren always wanted to play for OSU, but his Dad, who had played for Bo steered him to Michigan, once RR decided not to offer the younder Boren, Dad felt that his loyalty to M was not returned, and Justin had his blessing to transfer to OSU.

Ultimately, had Zach Boren been offered by M, I dont think that even the revocation of the furloughs and the thin skin would have caused Justin to transfer because his Dad would have made him stay, but once that happended, the RR "family values" meme became a very convenient pretext for showing RR that the Borens believed that RR broke a pact that Boren had with Loyd.

While it was Rodriguez' choice to "reneg" on an arrangement between Lloyd and Boren the elder, and it was his choice not to offer Zach Boren.  I think the latter was unwise given that RR never hit the 85 limit anyway and it would have shown some good will to an alumni and some smarts in that it would have kept his best lineman in the fold.

My impression of the LC era was that the honoring of "tradition" resulted in entitlement and stagnation.  This needn't have happened, but there it was.  RR addressed (or didn't address) M tradition in a whole different manner and (at least) entitlement and stagnation ceased to be issues.

You make a fine point in terms of the lack of an offer to Middle Boren.  My focus regarding the Boren's seems to remain on their general vitriol toward M.  In this case I'm glad you can never go home again.

I'm just taking a guess but with the emphasis being on staurday, I would assume they are refering to the fact that he will be commiting to Mich (In thier opinion), just not on saturday. I hope its accurate
