FWIW an insider whose opinion

FWIW an insider whose opinion I trust a lot has been hearing really good things about Ulizio. Said that if practice started today the line would look like this...

LT - Ulizio
LG - Bredeson
C - Cole
RG - Onwenu
RT - JBB

If I am not watching football

If I am not watching football it is highly likely that I am either lifting weights, playing poker or reading a book.

Myles Garrett. Garrett lined

Myles Garrett. Garrett lined up next to Gary, Wormley and Glasgow would just be unfair. With Mone, Hurst and Charlton all rotating in off the bench. In these type of scenarios I always prefer to strengthen a strength as opposed to trying to patch up a weaker position.

Clay Williams is legitimately

Clay Williams is legitimately connected to a lot of recruits, and probably knows more than most supposed insiders.

FWIW I would expect Herbert

FWIW I would expect Herbert to drop quite a bit on Rivals next update, though still in the top 200 or so. Mike Farrell alluded to the fact that he was pretty bad at the recent 5 star challenge (the video out there on him was not impressive). I also expect 247 to move him up a couple hundred spots so that will likely even out. He's obviously a bit raw now but he has the kind of tools that could make him an All-American under this coaching staff.

The rumors on Rivals didn't

The rumors on Rivals didn't speculate a freshman receiver, they named Ahmir Mitchell specifically. To be clear this is message board rumor, nothing that has been posted or confirmed by mods on that site.

So then I assume you think

So then I assume you think one camp performance was not enough to justify bumping St. Juste from unranked 3* into the Rivals250?

Can't have it both ways

So would a lot of players who

So would a lot of players who are not coming to Michigan

This is a 1 year grad

This is a 1 year grad transfer for depth. Who would we be able to pick up at this point right now who would fit your criteria? What if MAAR or Walton or Simpson are injured again next year? Would you rather play this guy or Dakich again?

I'm pretty sure I read that

I'm pretty sure I read that Bush Sr. if hired would not be hired into the Partridge role, but a different spot.  The Partridge role was to go to someone else.

Uh, no. Way too early to make

Uh, no. Way too early to make a claim like that. We lost two games to tournament teams with a lot of experience.  We have Spike and Irvin coming off injuries.  Integrating Wagner, Wilson and Robinson into the rotation.  There are a lot of pieces in play who haven't played a lot of basketball together.  They are going to get a lot better as the season goes on.  Wagner has been a relevation, his upside is as good as any big we have had here save McGary.  Robinson is lights out from 3 and has displayed a solid all around game as well.

I'm not sure we will be good enough to challenge MSU or Maryland for the Big Ten title, but we will be an upper tier team in the Big Ten and get a solid seed in the NCAA's.

David Reese will not be a

David Reese will not be a part of this class, for those that haven't got the memo yet.

We have one true LB commit in Dytarious Johnson, and three athletes who could end up playing LB IMO (Viramontes, Gil and Enis).

We are in good position with Devin Bush Jr., Caleb Kelly, Dontavious Jackson, and Jonathon Jones.  I'd guess we get 2, maybe 3 of them.

What these recruits tell you is that we are going more for athleticism than size.  Given the defensive scheme we run and the type of defensive line talent we will have, these type of players can be very effective if they are kept clean by the DL.

As far as DL, we also will

As far as DL, we also will get Mone back and likely add the #1 player in the country in Rashan Gary, who will factor in next year somewhere.  Also FWIW insider types have pointed out Rueben Jones as the most impressive redshirt freshman so far.

Everyone stay buckled up as

Everyone stay buckled up as there will be more fireworks tomorrow. Make sure you keep those fireworks away from the Bushes though.

1.8 PPG, 1.4 RPG. That's

1.8 PPG, 1.4 RPG. That's what Frank Kamisky averaged his first year on the court. Now he is a national player of the year candidate. Not saying that I expect Donnal to reach that level, just pointing out the absolute absurdity of labeling him a bust this early into his career. I guess that shouldn't be too surprising though, considering the bust label was applied to Chatman by many just halfway through his freshman year. Probably the same people who referred to Dawkins and MAAR as wasted scholarships last offseason. Many here would be best served by exercising just a bit of patience.

I'm a senior at Michigan

I'm a senior at Michigan right now. First generation college student, lower class background, also started undergrad at 25.  I've never personally felt like I was excluded or not welcomed or anything like that.  Though I do remember quite distinctly in a freshman year composition class taking out our laptops to do some work in class.  I was pretty much the only one in class without a Macbook, and my 5 year old Toshiba laptop sounded like a jet taking off when you turned it on.

Rivals is very optimistic,

Rivals is very optimistic, but I wouldn't take that to mean much. They lean strongly to the side of sunshine blowing. They have mastered the art of writing a lot of stuff without actually saying anything. I mean there must have been 20+ coaching updates in the last few weeks with literally nothing of substance said. Balas for example is the same guy who was telling everyone that TJ Leaf was still a serious option when it was well known by everyone that a commitment to another school was imminent.

The main benefit of being a member at TheWolverine is access to some of the posters who have legit inside info. They all seem to be in agreement that Harbaugh is legitimately in play, so I take more from that than anything said by the mods.

Personally I couldn't care

Personally I couldn't care less about a redshirt with Wilson. If he develops like we all expect him to, there is no way he is staying here 5 years. If he doesn't, then we will have someone as good or better to fill that spot anyways. Redshirts make sense with a guy like Donnal who lacks an NBA future, not guys with Wilson's upside.

You guys have to be kidding

You guys have to be kidding me with the Caris hate.  There is an adjustment period to being the #1 focus of every teams defense.  His shot is off at the moment and he is still putting up something like 17/5/5 on the year.

He's trying to save face,

He's trying to save face, which I don't blame him for.  The fact is the coaches never called him back and he took the hint that they'd moved on.

FWIW, Rivals guys seem to

FWIW, Rivals guys seem to think that Dawkins is actually closer to 6'6"

So basically almost every GM

So basically almost every GM in the league at the time?  If only the Pistons had you as GM!

Posts like this are what

Posts like this are what makes the blog great.  When I went to the Sugar Bowl a couple years ago some guy posted a guide to New Orleans and everything was spot on.  Made for a great trip.

I would love that bracket for

I would love that bracket for us.  Of all the #1 seeds, Florida is who I would most like to be paired up with.  Same goes for Virginia and the #3 seeds.  Even the lower seeded teams in the region are more favorable matchups IMO.

Says who?  If he chooses to

Says who?  If he chooses to pursue basketball professionally there will be leagues out there where he can play.  Maybe not the major leagues in Europe but he can make 6 figures playing basketball if that's what he chooses.  He could quite possibly make more with his masters in engineering, so it really depends on what he prefers doing.

Graham Brown, Josh Asselin, Chris Young, Jevohn Shephard, Brent Petway, Zak Novak and Stu Douglass are still collecting paychecks playing basketball.  I don't see why Morgan can't.

He's playing great right now.

He's playing great right now.  He will make a nice living playing basketball somewhere next year I think.

Play them both roughly equal

Play them both roughly equal minutes in the first half.  Whoever is playing better that day gets the bulk of the minutes in the 2nd half.  Seems to be working out pretty well so far

I met Lloyd Brady in New

I met Lloyd Brady in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.  Saw him at some random dive bar and got my picture taken with him (he was wearing a Lloyd Brady shirt). Like 2 days later I was up on a balcony somewhere and see him walk down Bourbon street.  No less than 5 Michigan fans stopped him to pose for pictures.

I was there with my friend who was a student at Arkansas at the time and it was really hard to explain why this random student was so popular

Yea, he's been doing that all

Yea, he's been doing that all game

Spike is the better player

Spike is the better player right now, but Walton's ceiling is much higher.  If we want to go far in March then Walton needs to play alot so he improves as much as possible by then.

Are you guys serious?  They

Are you guys serious?  They are coasting to a 20+ win in an exhibition game.  Exhibitions are about two things: Trying out different playing combinations and not getting anyone hurt.

You really think this game is indicative of anything that will happen during the season?

2008 Northwestern.  I thought

2008 Northwestern.  I thought I was prepared for the game by wearing about 5 layers of clothes.  By the end of the game I was completely soaked through, my socks were soaked everything.  I was so cold I was uncontrolably shaking.  And for some reason I sat through all this to watch a 3-9 Nick Sheridan led Michigan team lose to Northwestern.

Footballguys.com is a great

Footballguys.com is a great site.  I believe they charge like $27 for a yearly subscription.  They pump out so much info though.  Also that money gets you entered into their suscriber contest, which is a salary cap style best ball format with big money prizes. For me that is worth the price of subscription alone.

Pipkins looked pretty

Pipkins looked pretty impressive to me

FWIW, in a post on the board

FWIW, in a post on the board Tim Sullivan mentions that Michigan made a huge move for a top prospect over the weekend and that this prospect may decide soon.  That would lead me to believe that it is not someone like Crawford, Jenkins, Hand or McDowell, who are are favorites for already.

James Ross

James Ross

We go over this every year...

We go over this every year... No matter how much fans clamor for it, Beilein is not going to play two bigs for a majority of the minutes.  It's just not going to happen.  Having a 4 who can stretch the defense is critical to his offense.

And GRIII would need a lot of work to play the 3.  He can't even dribble drive on the 4's he plays against now.

FWIW on the OLine...

FWIW on the OLine...

Over at the TheWolverine, one of the mods has been hinting at some stuff on the OL that is not what is expected. Said that the left side of the line would be very powerful, but specifically mentioned that he wasn't referring to Kalis or Schofield at LG. It was strongly hinted that the coaches would be trying out a Bryant-Kalis-Braden interior line combo.

I had the exact same issue,

I had the exact same issue, and it was a real pain to get fixed. I maintained a Michigan license and paid taxes in Michigan throughout my time in the military. Still got classified as out of state after being back in Michigan for 3 years and paying bills, taxes, etc. the whole time.

Needless to say they make it a huge hassle to correct something which should never have been an issue in the first place.

No, I think Hardaway is gone

No, I think Hardaway is gone after this year.  He would probably be better served staying all 4 years but I think he will leave with Burke.

Stauskas may eventually be a 2, but this year he is the 3 and THJ the 2.  If THJ returns I think you see...

2 - THJ/LeVert

3 - Stauskas/Irvin

If THJ leaves I think you will see Stauskas taking roughly 33 minutes with LeVert/Irvin dividing the other 47 between the two of them.

Also a link to highlights of

Also a link to highlights of Irvins last game.  Someone with more technical knowledge than myself can embed.

Both Walton and Irvin should

Both Walton and Irvin should be top 25 prospects by the time they arrive at Michigan.  Whether they actually get rated that way or not remains to be seen.  As Brian points out, everyone could see that Stauskas was better than his rankings indicated, while the hobbit from NC State was a McDonalds All American.

Walton badly outplayed Kasey Hill (top 10 player and #1 or #2 PG to most sites) over the summer.  He has only improved every time I have seen him.  His skill set fits perfectly with the roster that we will have next year as he is a distributor first and he will have so many weapons at his disposal.

I remember back to Irvin's recruitment there was some discussion if we should take Irvin, VJ Beachem or some others.  As it seems is always the case (was with Walton as well), the guy who Beilein selects ends up skyrocketing.

I love Donnal's potential but I see him redshirting next year with Morgan, McGary, Robinson III, Horford and Beilfeldt all fighting for minutes at the 4/5.

Next year will be an even bigger fight for minutes, especially if THJ returns.  How do you divide up 80 minutes between THJ, Stauskas, Levert and Irvin?

Exactly.  That's why Spike

Exactly.  That's why Spike was the perfect PG recruit this year.  He will back up Walton next year and help him get his feet wet.  Probably will player closer to 10 minutes a game next year while Walton gets up to speed.  Great guy to have on the team

On another note, Caris LeVert

On another note, Caris LeVert is getting rave reviews from pretty much everyone who has seen him play. One insider on Rivals went so far as to refer to him as a future NBA player.

Beilein may have found another gem.

Reports from insider types on

Reports from insider types on Rivals indicate that Levert is going to be a big time player. The gist of one post said he went from a guy who was considered a surefire redshirt to a guy who often times is one of the handful of best players on the court. I am really intrigued by his skill set and length, though he does need to add some muscle for sure.

Parker is very good, but he

Parker is very good, but he is not even the best prospect in high school right now. Andrew Wiggins is the closest thing to LeBron in some time.

We have 6 turnovers against

We have 6 turnovers against ND and lost by a touchdown.  I don't see any way we lose to any of Illinois, Iowa or Minnesota.  Those are bad, bad football teams.  Purdue is a much better team and shouldn't be lumped in that group.
