DJ Wilson out 3-4 weeks Per @umichbball
Would have been great for him to get some more playing time before the conference schedule begins.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:31 PM ^
According to Brendan Quinn's Twitter page, a redshirt is being explored.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:31 PM ^
Fuckin 2014.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:32 PM ^
Per reporters, coaching staff is going to explore the redshirt option for him as well. Honestly, with Doyle looking quite good right now, I wouldn't be opposed to that idea. He needs serious time with the S&C staff and putting another year between Donnal/Doyle wouldn't be a bad idea at this point with their play.

Barring injury to one of the Ds, i woild like to see DJ redshirt. Not worth his 3-5 min per game.

DJ Wilson : Drake Harris, basketball edition.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:49 PM ^
Drake Harris was much more hyped than DJ Wilson recruiting wise. We need Drake Harris to be our playmaking WR next yaer
December 1st, 2014 at 10:08 PM ^
A quick check of 247 has Drake Harris ranked 88 and DJ Wilson ranked 87.
December 1st, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
But 88 in football is higher than 87 in bball due to number of starters.
December 1st, 2014 at 11:30 PM ^
He did say recruiting hype and that is true.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:38 PM ^
I think a RS for him would be great. He looks overwhelmed out there. 1 year with Sanderson and 15 lbs would help this guy tremendously. As Freddie said, Doyle is playing far above what we thought so those minutes as an emergeny 5 are both not needed and DJ cant provide them in the Big 10 in is current physical form. Would be an issue for the backup 4 but you move Irvin there for 5-6 minutes a game and Aubrey 4-5 a game and you can do it.
He is the one guy who has stood out to me as needing a RS (I have seen almost none of MAAR).
December 1st, 2014 at 3:43 PM ^
Would like to see him redshirt too unless injuries to the other PGs persist.
December 1st, 2014 at 4:01 PM ^
MAAR would be a 21 yo freshman with a redshirt.
December 1st, 2014 at 6:21 PM ^
I would love that. The byu advantage.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
He should have redshirted from the start.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:57 PM ^
We really need the depth, and his potential as a shot blocker later this season was something I was looking forward to.
December 1st, 2014 at 7:42 PM ^
We could use depth, but he's not ready to provide it yet. He's clueless out there on both sides of the floor, and not practicing for the next few weeks won't get him there. Considering Bielfeldt is playing better than we thought, I think redshirting Wilson makes the most sense.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:40 PM ^
because I don't think he is quite ready and it gives us a better class break down. Hasn't he played minute though? If the basketball redshirt rules are the same as football it would have to be a medical redshirt, no?
December 1st, 2014 at 3:41 PM ^
Unless he progresses to the point where he is a clear number 2 option over Donnal or he becomes a useful backup 4. Like Caris two years ago, only use him if he helps us win something
December 1st, 2014 at 3:42 PM ^
Wilson redshirting is an excellent outcome from a bad situation. He's been hopelessly outmatched in nonconference play. The B1G would eat him alive. He's clearly talented, and putting some time between him and Doyle is not a bad thing.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:44 PM ^
Just saw the team in Brooklyn, Wilson could use a year with just working with Sanderson. He's freakishly long for his size, and has very big hands, but he's a string bean who can't match up physically with most major-conference 4s and 5s (see what happened in his sole possession vs Nova).
You can get away with being skinny if you're smaller or you're a spot shooter (e.g. Caris Levert's freshman year), but skinny is bad if you're 6'9" and playing in the B1G.

Any word on Walton' wearing a boot? How long is he expected to be out?
December 1st, 2014 at 3:59 PM ^
FWIW, he walked by me on the diag today, with no apparent limp, no visible sign of injury. But whether he's injured or "injured" a redshirt seems like a good idea.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:59 PM ^
Walton is day to day per Brendan Quinn; will be a game time decision vs Syracuse. Probably something he is going to have to work through over the next month. Should be a tomato can or two in the December schedule he can sit and miss the games to heal.
p.s. what are the rules for RS in bball? how do they differ vs football?
December 1st, 2014 at 5:00 PM ^
The rules are the same. You can't play in more than a third of the games and still get a redshirt. So if he were to sit out from this point forward, he would be able to redshirt as long as they have the appropriate documentation for his injury(ies)...which shouldn't be an issue.
December 1st, 2014 at 3:59 PM ^
hoping he just redshirts.
December 1st, 2014 at 4:01 PM ^
Beilein says there's more of a possibility than normal that he could play two bigs together to matchup with Cuse's Christmas and McCullough. - Quinn
Maybe Donnal gets some time at 4. McCullough is a beast.
Here is my writeup on Syracuse which is lost under an avalanche of Hoke/Harbaugh

Next year is THE year for basketball. Return to final four - someone just needs to let Caris LeVert and his senior year of eligibility know. Team will be absolutely stacked, especially adding in Duncan Robinson.
December 1st, 2014 at 4:41 PM ^
This year will be better than next.
December 1st, 2014 at 6:40 PM ^
IF Caris stays and our frontcourt has a B1G season under its belt?
December 1st, 2014 at 7:45 PM ^
Even if Caris leaves, next year will be better than this year. Once Donnal/Doyle/Chatman have a year under their belts, we'll be significantly improved. Irvin and Walton will be the leaders and Robinson and Dawkins will replace LeVert's production.
December 1st, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
And we could lose Irivn too. Look at all the players we have lost prematurely over the last few years. That is more the norm than not.
December 1st, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Yup, I don't see a guy who can go and get their shot or find the open man out of PnR at a high rate. Walton is good not great. Kam has that potential but UM needs more. Duncan Robinson is a spot up shooter.
December 1st, 2014 at 4:30 PM ^
Personally I couldn't care less about a redshirt with Wilson. If he develops like we all expect him to, there is no way he is staying here 5 years. If he doesn't, then we will have someone as good or better to fill that spot anyways. Redshirts make sense with a guy like Donnal who lacks an NBA future, not guys with Wilson's upside.
December 1st, 2014 at 4:47 PM ^
That hair is too beautiful to leave on the bench for a year
December 1st, 2014 at 6:46 PM ^
What exactly is his injury?
December 1st, 2014 at 9:33 PM ^
We don't talk about injuries. Oops, sorry that was football and that season is over.
December 1st, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
Sorry if this has been already addressed in another thread.
December 2nd, 2014 at 8:39 AM ^
He really needs to work on explosiveness while he is out this season, after the injury of course. He seems a little slow footed on defense, he still needs to grow into that body, as does Chatman.
Camp Sanderson anyone?
