No matter what OSU does they would never get the death penalty, they even say in pony excess that SMU recieved it to set a example, Its obvious that they didnt scare any of the major programs.
Would it be possible for osu to get smu's first sanctions? Losing all scholarships one year then only fifteen the next and a two year bowl ban?
God I hope so.
That's the Doomhammer of Doom.
SMU blatantly had no regard for the rules they knew they were breaking, they were winning and winning big. Though tOSU wasn't as bad as SMU in breaking the rules it still has that mantra "Win at all costs".
Wow. Does the whole SMU car dealership situation sound familiar?
The Governor at the center if the SMU controversy just died this week.
"...had been aware for years."
Obviously a different magnitude, but still sounds familiar.
and the interesting thing is that none of those involved seem particularly remorseful.
Craig James is a huge jerkwad. That is all I wanted to say.
Leach Uber Alles
James CAN be an asshat at times but he publicly defended RR and Michigan during Stretchgate and went on and on about a witch hunt during the WMU game in 09 so he gets a small, thimble-sized pass from me.
Tressel.
because he knew of actual violations at other programs!
Stop double clicking on from the droid.
because he knew of actual violations at other programs!
ahh....touche'
While James' (and May's) anti-Big 10 habits typically make me hit mute and go for a beer, during the coaching change drama, he was the only guy I heard actually say that Hoke should be the number one choice ("He's a button-down guy, runs an impressive SD State program, and would crawl to Michigan" is what I think he said). It struck me as just kind of odd then, but with the way things have been going, James just might have a little savant in him.
It may be jv but there are still many parallels; osu can still get crushed by the ncaa. I completely believe they will get worse sanctions than usc
The NCAA still needs to update the allegations. Right now, there really isn't anything against the program itself. It'll change, but we're still waiting.
Shame on you...letting objectivity and rational thought get in the way...
this is a great 30 for 30. the second best one imo...
The U?
the homer in me compells me to say The Fab Five 30 for 30.
The Fab Five wasn't a 30 For 30.
Well, at the beginning there is the 30 for 30 ticket that burns into the ESPN Films logo so I just assumed it was. Not that it really matters. If it isn't a 30 for 30 film, it should be.
Yea, it's not a big deal or anything, it was done by the same guys.
but the Fab Five doc wasn't a 30 for 30...
Great story, plus I don't really like the 30 for 30's that have too much human drama b/c I don't like to be reminded about real life when I watch sports (although that two Escobars one was very well done)
that sleazy guys pass money around to football players, it pisses me off that teams cheat to get better and ESPN makes that seem OK. With SMU the special admits the superclass was built with players who never should have been there to begin with but revels in the on-the-field success calling it "the pony express" "look at how wonderful that team was" and then saying later "then, a shady guy came around named sherwood blount" and things went bad. Things were bad when Craig James and Eric Dickerson signed LOIs. The courting of Marcus Dupree is greasy too. They glorify what happened at Oklahoma but they don't really frown on the fact that he should've stayed at home and had a successful career starting in Mississippi. They highlight his illegal recruitment as something to admire, or "something cool that could happen to you too, young recruit!" The Miami 30 for 30 special is by far worse than the others. Their superteams were blatantly bought and paid for but all the special does is justify buying a superteam. It doesn't just gloss over wrongdoing, it ends with a glitterring, triumphant music montage of all the glory years revelling in their cheating. It pisses me off that ESPN makes everything seem fine until people start getting caught, and THEN things are bad. It may be a small thing but the principal behind it is everything.
It is possible to watch this thing online?
is that at they end, they show the Rich Rod practice thing, and Lloyd and the team singing The Victors. First of all, Rich Rod's thing was nowhere NEAR as bad as anything thats gone on the past 5 years, especially not SMU, and Carr did not have any scandals
Reggie Bush wasn't enough dirt, stretch-gate was the other "bombshell" they threw in there because Cam Newton and Tatgate happened after the special aired.
It is JV only in scale. What OSU was doing is pretty much the same thing, just for somewhat less money and marginally less obvious.
TCU vs. San Diego State on Mtn Net.

Yeah, it's June.
you can catch it again at 2:00a.m. on espn2 but before that at midnight The U will be on on espn2.
JV? Joint venture? I knew there was a connection between tOSU's cheating and SMU's cheating. Thanks for the info...
talk about a criminal program...
