I hate the Lions so Matt Millen is one of my favorite people of all time....take the BPA!
If it made any difference, I would neg you. Then create a dozen other usernames to neg you some more. FORWARD DOWN THE FIELD! GO LIONS!

I think negging and pos banging is back up now.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Neg-bombs confirmed ineffective on that Lions h8er three posts up.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Someone in another thread randomly lost 1500 points so I thought maybe the points are beginning to take effect. Apparently not.
April 15th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
I had 1000 points (or so) expire today. That is probably what happened to them.
Whatevs. I think I will live.
I won't start losing my hair until November 14, 2011, so I can still build up my totals for awhile before that shrinking feeling sets in for me as well.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:01 AM ^
Dude, just.... no. How can you hate the Lions? What kind of sick person wants to see them suffer any more than they already have? It's like hating the redheaded stepchild. I mean, it's not even worth it.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
is like hating the LA Clippers.
April 15th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Or the Cleveland Browns.
/beaten down Browns fan
The Indians are pretty legit this year so far.
April 15th, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
Screw you
April 15th, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
Screw you
Lions fans are incredible. I have to hate the Lions. Just like I have to hate the Bears and Vikings. I'm a Packers fan. I'm sure every Lions fan hates the Pack as well. You guys keep talking and my team will keep winning Super Bowls.
I know they are getting better, they beat the Pack last year...blah, blah, blah. They should win a division game once in awhile. Get over it, they stink. Oh BTW, I love when they play that "Forward down the Field" when down thirty and Hanson kicks a field goal with 5 minutes left iin the game.....real classy Detroit.
Uhh, hopefully he doesn't land a job w/ ESPN full time... that wouldbe bad news, right?
"Pam Ward here with Matt Millen ... "
I think I am feeling a bit queasy.
/VURP!
April 15th, 2011 at 12:06 PM ^
Wait until they begin their career as an adult film duo.
I really could have done without that mental image.
To their football work.
Anytime Matt Millen gets fired, its OK with me.
Worst GM in pro football history (Mike Brown at Cinci is #2) but I think he's a decent color guy on both college and pro. And. I'll always remember his "there is a jockstrap on the filed, and it belongs to (forgot name)" call when Forcier went up the middle against ND.
Obviously, the NFL doesn't think he's so hot.
I believe that jockstrap belonged to Darius Fleming. Great line.
That kids a stud bolt!
I am so sick of this "Millen was a bad GM but good commentator" sentiment. Thats bullshit. You know what I like? I like it when the people talking during football games actually have a clue what they are talking about, and Millen has proven to be one of the worst evaluators of talent in the history of western civilization. So when he starts yapping about which players he likes, and for what reasons, why the fuck should I be paying attention to him? Fuck Matt Millen, he ruined my team, and its only now starting to recover. He can fucking rot in television commentator purgatory for all I care.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
That's kinda harsh. They weren't great before he got there. He just took suck to a much MUCH higher level.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
Dude, providing color commentary during a game is about understanding what is happening on the field at that moment, coming from the perspective of an ex-player or coach. Being a GM is about projecting a players ability to be a good NFL player for you, and about running an organization. the two have nothing to do with each other. This Lion fan meme that his awful GM performance discredits his ability to describe action on the field is the product of resentment and nothing else. Start thinking and stop lashing out a guy who's been gone for two years.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
I actually think he's pretty good when calling the action on the field but I have a really hard time not wishing he would choke to death in the middle of calling a game for the crap job he did with the Lions. Unfortunately for him, he gets all the credit for that teams horrible history when really, all he did was manage to make it worse than it already was.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
I didn't know Millen was a Ford. Yes, he left something to be desired GM wise, but as we all know, shit rolls downhill. People act he was a GM for the Rooneys or Krafts.
April 15th, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
Whatever. Reason and rationality go out the window with me when Matt Millen's name comes up.
another reason for me to drink
That's Six.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:36 AM ^
I loved that call. He knew it was going the distance a half second before McDonough and was so matter of fact about it.:
April 15th, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
I loved the Rich Rod era for pre-Big Ten games. It was like the bizarro experience of being in college when Lloyd was coaching us against Pac-10 teams.
Hell, even when we went 3-9, we almost beat a Utah team that went on to go undefeated and smack 'Bama around in a bowl game.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
Bob Papa was good but Gus is phenomenal. If he's doing Thursday night games those are must-watch games. Good move by NFL network
Yeah, apparently mandatory Millen statements aside, Gus Johnson is probably the best play by play announcer in sports today. He could make women's basketball exciting. This is a very good move by the NFL.
April 15th, 2011 at 10:47 AM ^
I didn't really mind what Millen said and did on that side of the cameras. He did seem to point out things most broadcasters would miss. But, as long as he doesn't go on to screw with any of my other favorite teams I'll be meh.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
so I actually liked Millen, as far as ESPN commentators go he was pretty good. Millen and McDonough has been one of my favorite pairs, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with McDonough.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
Yes, Millen and McDonough have done a good job. Millen was apparently a fine TV analyst before he got involved with the Lions.
April 15th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
This doesn't really make sense, given that Gus Johnson and Matt Millen don't have the same responsibility in front of the camera. Gus is almost certainly not replacing Millen.
April 15th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
I guess, if officially hired, Gus Johnson would actually be Papa's replacement. I believe they're hiring/hired Mike Mayock as analyst.

was bad. They need to get Chuck to retire and broadcast NFL games. Desmond on Saturday and Chuck on Sunday????? Nice real nice clark.
one's a color guy, the other's a play-by-play. what gives?
April 15th, 2011 at 12:45 PM ^
What wonderful news! Now every Thursday night game will be a classic!
LAW OF GUS! LAW OF GUS! LAW OF GUS!
So now I get to not watch Gus Johnson calling the Thursday night game? This is just another reason why the NFL Network sucks. Get the best announcer to call the game that nobody gets. Wasteful.
1. Detroit Red Wings
1a. Detroit Lions
1b. Michigan Wolverines
2. Detroit Tigers (booorrringgg)
42153644361346. Pistons (could not care less)
Screw anyone that dislikes the Lions. The nation would LOVE it if the Lions got good, I can imagine a Saints-like nationwide lovefest if they became a playoff team.
I honestly can't say I'm a huge lions fan just because I checked out and didn't let it ruin my day when the lions would lose the last few years.
If you don't emanate sadness, anger, anguish, or a combination of the above after your team loses you aren't a fan.
