22 weeks 15 hours ago Do the players get a cut?

Do the players or the family's of the players that have passed get a cut$$?
They should. They can't make any money off the jerseys when they are in school. But they should now.
I would not buy a jeresy just because it is # 21. I buy it and wear it because of Desmond. Or if they made one for Tripp. They are my favorite players. They should get a cut. Just a thought. They are cool.

22 weeks 2 days ago I worked the game

I worked the game for fsn. As a camera op. great game and a great story.
They talked about this during the game. But not in as much detail,I am so glad I read this story.
What that team and town went through, and to win the game that they were over matched in. That is why you play the game... And why I love sports. Thanks for posting the story.

27 weeks 4 days ago we get griese this week

this weeks game is on espn. the 3D show with Brian Griese on color com. Working the game as a camera op. I love the camera meetings because Brian breaks down the game and tells us what he is looking for on both teams. I think he does a great job. cant wait. Go Blue

42 weeks 2 days ago Thanks

Went from happy to sad in denard speed! thanks, I was having a great day. Dick!!!!!!!!! Another reason why most people should think before they post. just bad. not funny!

44 weeks 1 hour ago Very well said

Very well said shakey jake. I cant wait to see some of these guys play, but the truth is if half of the 2013 class or any class does well on the field we are doing great. Most of these guys will be a miss and not a hit or a star. That is just the way recruiting goes.

1 year 1 week ago loved michigan replay

Grew up watching Michigan Replay. I loved it. Then I got to work on the show as a intern in 1995. It was Lloyd's first year. During the week I would go though a stack of tapes and pick high lights of the top qb,rb, wr, dt, lb, and db. Brian Hartley(producer) would give me a list of names and numbers of the team michigan was playing the next week. I would find good or great plays made by these players and write down the time code on the tape.  Brian would edit the segment highlighting that team. Lloyd and jim would talk about michigan's next opp.

On game day I would sit in  a ch. 2 truck with a tape deck and record the game and log the time codes. writing down each play and the time it happened on the tape. Bob Lipson(owner, director, creator of michigan replay) would be taking notes in the press box, on what plays he wanted to show. At half time Brian would take the 1st and 2nd qt. tape and drive to southfield and ch. 2 to start editing the plays together.

At the end of the game I would grab the tapes from the 3rd and 4th qt. and run to my car, trying to beat the traffic and drive to southfield. we would wait for Bob Lipson to get there later with the sound from the locker room. They would edit game footage and sound, and all the other segments they worked on during the week as we waited for Lloyd and Brandy to get there.

I would make copys of the run downs of the show for Brandy and Lloyd. And then sit with Lloyds wife to watch the taping of the show. It was great. Lloyd and his wife were very nice. This might be the only time that Lloyd and his wife could have some time togther during the season. They always went out to diner after the taping when michigan was home.

The away games  were a different story. It was always late at night and long hours hanging around ch. 2. waiting for the team to get back.

It was so cool to be apart of a show I grew up on.

1 year 10 weeks ago HS ball

HS ball on the west side of the state(Hamilton). Played LB and FB.
Then went to school for broadcasting. Now I run camera, and shoot alot of Michigan, state, and MAC games for espn, ABC, and the BTN. I cant get enough of this blog.

1 year 11 weeks ago He's young

He is young, He might change the way he thinks, when practice starts. Most of these kids have dreams of the NFL. That is not a bad thing. I hope he reaches his goals.

1 year 11 weeks ago I think

I think the basic idea is for us (camera guy) to not get hurt, or make the fight worse. You can shoot the fight from  your spot on the floor. (the spot you shoot game action from)

If all the HH guys go on to the floor(that night 8) and each camera guy has a ute(person that wraps the cable) Thats another 8 people on the floor, not counting audio tech, and ref's, trainers. You are looking at 20 or more people on the floor that should not be there.

I have been told in camera meetings, when a fight breaks out camera 1 (the game cam)go wide to see both benches. The NBA wants this, to be able to see who left the bench.(so they can fine or suspend them)

The shots of the guy that threw the beer were caught by up cameras. The slash camera above the visit tunnel, and the camera on top of the basket. Did HH looks help, yes. but the NBA still thinks we can get the shots we need with out getting in the way.

So yes, the NBA wants as much footage that it can get. But they do not want us(camera guys) adding to the mess, and getting in the way or hurt because of the fight. And the fact that there was 3 broadcast that night helped with the extra footage.

It is in our nature(hand held guy) to get the best shot we can get. But if one guy goes out to get a shot, then everyone goes. and it is a mess.  But if everyone stays in their spot, then you can shot what you need with out getting blocked. This is only a rule when there is a fight, or game is in play.

Looking back at it now. was I dumb for running out there to get the shot...yes. It was crazy and dangerous. But at the time I did not think it was going to get that out of hand.

So it is a good rule. It stoped me last night from running out there when stuckey got fouled.

I hope this answered your question.

1 year 11 weeks ago I worked the game

I worked the game for the home broadcast. I ran the hand held camera under the basket, pistons bench side. It was crazy. There was 3 broadcast that night (home show, visit, and espn) So there was at least 20 to 25 cameras in the building. So many different looks or angles of the fight. ESPN being there live did not help. They could get info on sports center right away and give their view to the world right then and there. There were police in the truck looking at footage. I brought my camera out to the truck after the broadcast was over and then was locked out of the palace for 30 min. The back hallway to the locker rooms was on lock down.

Its funny that we are talking about this today, last night I worked the pistons game and stuckey got fouled hard and a there was a little pushing and words were said. I took 2 steps on to the floor and stoped. There is a rule in the NBA now that if a fight breaks out you can not go on to the floor. (not just players, camera guys too) It made me think of the brawl  On that night of the brawl there were at least 8 hand held cameras on the floor. and everyone went out on the floor. Because of the brawl, they made this rule. It was crazy! I was pushed by a pistons asst. coach and told to to get the hell out of here.(pistons bench) I also remember Mahorn trying to break it up. So many people to blame. It was crazy to be part of it, but it is sad too,my footage is part of history. I just wish it was for something good and not a negative moment in time.

1 year 17 weeks ago is he writing a new book?

Please ask Jim, if he is writing a new volume of  "Tales from Michigan Stadium". He has 2 out. I would love to see more stories from the 90's and 2000 teams. There are so many great players he can talk to.

Does he miss the old Michigan Replay, or does he like the new show he does with Hoke?

I worked as a intern on michigan replay in 1995 (Lloyd's first year) It was a tough year but great to work with Jim and Lloyd. Lloyd and his wife were so great and very nice at every taping even if Michigan lost..

1 year 24 weeks ago Staying at the hotel

I am working for ABC, when I checked in the cheerleaders were checking in. the staff of the hotel is wearing ohio hats. I asked the girl at the desk if they were forced to wear the hats? She said yes and she was not happy. If some one pulls the fire alarm, it will be ok. I will not be sleeping any way I am so pumped for this game!!  Beat ohio!

1 year 25 weeks ago Why do I

get Trolling? I gave facts in my comment.

1 year 25 weeks ago funny

funny

1 year 25 weeks ago you are welcome

That was my shot. I worked for BTN to day, When I saw him do that I laughed, The director, laughed and made a joke. no one said any thing after that, I think one of  the announcers laughed. funny and creepy.

1 year 25 weeks ago Same crew as

Same crew as today. working for espn, cant wait. its going to be great game. Go Blue!

1 year 26 weeks ago working for espn

and was told a noon start. Spielman and Meyer should be working the game.

1 year 26 weeks ago sucks for my family and my friends that work in tv

My wife and I work all the pistons games. so if they dont play we are out about $25,000. I will be able to pick up some more michigan and state b-ball games. But it will not make up for all those games lost. Yes the NBA sucks and needs to be fixed. but it will be at the expence of the little people that are just trying to pay their bills. The people that broadcast the games(like me, camera guy) ushers, food servers, parking. Everyone that works in that area around the arena will be affected.

1 year 29 weeks ago love it

Love it! Very well put. I am pumped! GO BLUE!!!!!

1 year 31 weeks ago Hope Urban stays at espn

One of the camera guys on his show, is a friend of mine. he loves him. He is great to work with, and has great info on both teams. He takes this job very serious. He brings in film that he broke down to the camera meeting. He does this so the crew can pick up keys and things to look for while shooting the game.

I hope he stays at espn. He is a great coach and a great recruiter.  Him not going to osu is good for Michigan. Urban is working the Michigan game this week. Go Blue!

1 year 32 weeks ago no

The Lloyd Brady shots are not mine. I have in the past tried to get shots of him, but have not got him on. I will take credit for the shot of greg and the stuffed animal that he put in Demens face. I was working for espn or abc for that game. I did not even notice that he did it untill it was on this blog. got the shot of him reacting and went back to shooting the game. then watched the replay at home and could not belive what greg did. funny. I like the haterade avartar.

1 year 32 weeks ago That was my shot

That was my shot.  It was funny his mom or dad did nothing.  I would have told my kids to stop or not to do that. Good job posting it. I just happened to shoot goldy and the kid started to miss with him.

1 year 40 weeks ago suck it up

suck it up! watch the game. the only reson to watch a game on the dvr is if you have to work or miss it. or you are rewatching it!! if you are a fan then be a fan, good or bad! the D will bounce back some day. hopefully soon. The reason you watch and the players play is because you dont know what is going to happen. This is why they play the game! you cant just skip the parts you dont like. Love Michigan football good or bad. Dont do it half ass!

1 year 40 weeks ago last time they were here

last time they were here it was outside the stadium. In the parking lot behind sec. 32. I worked for them running one of the cameras. It is right next to the tv trucks for the game. I wont be there this year. so bummed. I was on the espn show for the game, but had to get out of it. I have to work in traverse city for 7 days for the NHL prospects games. CGD is a great show to work on. long day (18 hours or so). great money. great crew, and the host are nice too.

1 year 42 weeks ago I like Dreisbach take

Hope he learns something from this. I hope he gets a job and grows up. dont know if this will happen. I do want ohio st to pay for his mistakes and tressels.

1 year 47 weeks ago I am

I am a camera op. I work all the pistons games. And half the redwing and tigers games. I also work alot for the BTN. Once you get the blog going you should check into getting a media pass, for some of the games. When ever they start playing again. If you live in the area. Good luck with the site.

1 year 47 weeks ago cool

cool, I work all the  Pistons  games  for FSN. I will check it out. I am working the draft party. It should be fun. I have no idea who they will pick. Good luck with the site. Go Pistons Go Blue!

1 year 47 weeks ago games will be missed

Everything that I have heard from people that work at the palace is the lock out will happen.

That is bad for the league, and fans, and myself( I am a freelance camera op.) If they dont play, I dont get paid. I hope this does not happen. I have heard that it will go to january, or the whole season will be lost.

The owners and players will fight it out, and the real people that will suffer are the people that work at the arena and local resturants.

1 year 50 weeks ago I worked

I worked all the pistons games for FSD, and the players did not care. They did not listen in the huddle. It was sad. I have done interviews with kuester and he is a good guy to work with. I have no idea who they go with next. Jerry Sloan? If he wants to deal with the NBA.

1 year 50 weeks ago nice guy

Nice guy, but it had to be done. He lost the players.
