Who is now renewing seasons?

Submitted by The_Doctor on

so now that we have proof that JMFH is no Pizza Man, and JMFH is going to be our construction lead, I am now renewing my PSD and will look forward to my 32nd year as a season ticket holder.

who else held off to see the search process/results?  do you think there is now a massive influx of PSD money coming in?  I can't be the only one that sat on mine waiting for this....

I am, was holding out on the PSD until things cleared up.  I live in LA and can only go back for a couple games anyway, didn't want to be stuck with an even bigger loss if things kept going south.

You are going to get in trouble for using "JMFH" but I am interested to see the results.
If I lived near AA I might have said I was getting rid of them (although never would have). But now, I would run through a wall for Jim so I would buy more.
In fact, instead of just going to my one game a year I might attend 3 or 4.

I usually make it to at least one game per year, but I think I'll be going more often in 2015.  Especially if we beat Utah and set the tone right off the bat.

My son just turned 3, so it is about time he started going to games.

I support the team no matter the circumstances. No matter how frustrating it has been. I am not a fair weather fan. Sent my PSD the first available day. GO BLUE!

THANK YOU!

Nice to see another non-bandwagon fan.

To others: Coach Harbaugh (not JMFH - show a little respect) is seemingly a great hire. Yet, time will tell. Last I looked, he hasn't yet won one game at Michigan.

Mr. Hackett has seemingly made one good hire. We'll see. The process seems to have been very well handled, going by publicly available information. A great start. Yet, let's hold off on naming him AD of the Century or other such hyperbolic nonsense.

As long as you donate?

So if say we hired Schiano, and people gave up their seats, but then we hired Harbaugh in 2 years, and the people that gave up seats wanted them back, would that be easy? Just curious as to how that works.

Pure supply and demand. Ever since year 2 of RR they have been easy to get - make the minimum donation and you get offered tickets. If demand goes up dramatically then that may change things. If there is more demand than supply the tickets are 'awarded' based on priority points. Former ticket holders probably have a decent number of points because they had been paying PSDs and getting points for those but that doesn't guarantee anything. All that said, the ticket price and PSDs are now high enough that I'd be surprised if a long wait list developed like used to exist. Owning tickets is much more expensive now than it was 10 years ago.

1) I sent a pissy email to the AD when I received the PSD email stating that my renewal was dependent upon how they handled their business over the ensuing several weeks.

2) I renewed yesterday.

my PSD plus kicker during the presser as well. Lets see if we can get another set in the end zone. The guys that did not renew last year must be feeling sorry today. Hopefully they kept their points active.

I'm hoping I get 2. Sent in my donation to get on the interest list last week. anybody have a good guess at my odds of landing them are? This would be my first attempt after wanting to for years, but not having the financial means to do so in the past.

I was probably going to pay the PSD unless they hired a Brian Ellerbe equivalent, but I'm certainly happy [EDIT:  never "happy" to pay PSD, but so be it] to do so now.

I am waiting on my other two guys to send me their PSD money before I pay for all 4. But I will be shortly, got my tickets in 2009. It's been rough since then but hopefully worth the wait!

I am now leaning towards renewing. I lost a lot of money in the games I was unable to attend last season so I was ready to let my seats go. My plan was to just buy a couple games a year and come out ahead. I am now thinking( hoping) I will have no issue selling the games I cannot attend.

email showed up in my mailbox.

and even if we were bad, like IU bad, i'd renew while the kids are still home.   the deal is to spend a special weekend with them traveling downstate, seeing family, going to ann arbor on saturday, walking to the stadium, hearing the victors played, hopefully winning, and a drive home with talk, singing, kids napping, etc.   that's what it's really about for us.

Renewing...tickets have been in the family For decades and I kept them even after moving away. Will still hit 3-4 games! But now, might be working the frequent flyer miles to get home for a few more!

Not sold yet. Concerned about reports from ESPN that a couple of NFL teams still have a good shot at getting Jim. Haven't renewed yet, but in all honesty I still would have if last year's coach would have been retained. I've been sitting in the same seats since 1977 and I'm not going anywhere.

and I can't count how many people that I talked to that were holding off renewing until the coach was hired. I said that I would not renew unless we made a new hire but not sure if I would have followed through or not...glad I don't have to find out and I sent my PSD in.
I don't think it says anything about your loyalty of you were holding out, it had just reached the point where it didn't seem to make financial sense to have season tickets. No matter, all is good and we happy! Go Blue!

For the record, I am still not convinced it makes "financial sense" to have season tickets. The PSDs have done a good job of extracting maximum value out of the tickets. At best there is probably a small amount of money to be made on unused tickets, or it may make sense for someone who can make every game while the team is doing very well, but there are still too many crappy teams on the schedule each year where tickets are nearly worthless.

You're kidding yourself.  Anyone with a little patience will be able to get tickets to that game for face value - either buy very late on StubHub, or better yet, walk up to the Stadium and buy tickets outside.  Yes, if you buy tickets in August you are going to be taken for a ride.  Just like the demand-based pricing (or whatever it was called) earlier this year - people paid insanely high prices for games that became much cheaper closer to the game times.

I have "brokered" tickets for a friend of mine who is a season ticket alum who lives in Phoenix and only comes back for one game a year. Getting rid of those tickets was hard, let alone at face value. Some games I couldn't even get rid of for free.

Yesterday, I had people texting me all day asking if I had tickets for next year to get rid of....

(Disclaimer: I only sold to people I knew who were Michigan fans. Well, except once. I sold a pair to my attorney, who is a Nebraska fan. It was last year. I owed him money. It was a fair trade.)

Pretty sure that's the whole point. The university isn't in the business of giving people tix for so they can make money on them. Their mission is to extract that value for their product and put it in their own pocket. Their not looking to make it easy for anyone to get your money back on the secondary market. Season tickets never make "financial sense" unless you value the experience at what you pay for them.

Exactly.  Except up until a few years ago when the PSDs were increased, that wasn't the case - the University was leaving a ton of money on the table.  The dynamic pricing for individual game tickets also did this.  I'm in no way arguing these are bad moves by the University - they're brilliant.  But so many people still have the same mentality towards their tickets as they did a decade ago, and those people are kidding themselves.  If I was local, I probably would have kept my tickets because I'd use them most of the time; but since I only make a few games a year there's no point in having season tickets.

I will probably renew, especially for the upcoming year's schedule.  I am not sure whether the PSD makes season tickets viable in the long run compared to StubHub, especially since I live out of town and will only get to 3-4 games.  However, it will make sense this next year.

It will be interesting to see what Harbaugh does to the economics of ticket buying.  Not as interesting as what he does with the team, but still interesting.

But now that jimmy is home will send it this week. I hope a lot of people waited. To send some sort of message. I hate the pay for the right to buy tickets. But we don't have a choice if you want the tickets. Great job by JMFH! Jimmy is home...time to get to work! Go blue!

but I always was going to renew my tickets. As I told some friends who had asked me about my tickets, I'm in for the long haul. I always felt a turnaround would happen or a major change would occur but also because I support and love the University of Michigan. I waited for quite some time to get season tickets and hopefully now they'll be in my family to stay.

One thing I can't wait for....to see if the single game attendance record is broken for the first home game. It sort of reminds me of when Denard was a sophomore starting against UCONN.

The record will be broken. Book it.

Especially when the team is down. The last thing I ever want to be called is fair weather. That's not the Michigan way.
