I love Japan, and have been…

I love Japan, and have been there three times already.   Honestly, I don’t think reservations are absolutely needed, but you could pick one or two spots for reservations for a high end omakase meal at some point.  But Google is a good place to figure out where the good food is.  Try Michelin bib Gormand.

Do not make reservations the first few nights as the time change is tough!   Try the Timeshifter app to get a head start on jet lag.

With the Japan rail pass or jrpass you can go anywhere you need.  Tokyo is amazing, and so is Kyoto, and Osaka.  It just takes a little longer to get places than you think in the cities due to the size (Tokyo) or lack or direct public transportation (Kyoto).

7-11 is amazing but you really want to try the small little restaurants for grilled meats and vegetables, sushi (cheap conveyer belt and others), ramen, etc.   The alcohol is amazing too and if you are into malt whisky, there is a lot to explore.

skip the new fish market in Tokyo, the old outer fish market had what you need in terms of lining up for excellent sushi for breakfast at 10am!

I’m looking for one on the…

I’m looking for one on the Michigan side.  Alum 2000.  Please email [email protected].  In Houston already, just haven’t taken the plunge on the ticket websites yet.

Was going to wait until…

Was going to wait until tomorrow.  But may be even Sunday.   Is that too risky?

Where are you seeing those…

Where are you seeing those prices?

If the big ten commissioner…

If the big ten commissioner was smart, he would have slammed Harbaugh with this suspension to please the other schools.  Then knowingly done so when the expected legal action allows Harbaugh to coach the rest of the season.  This way he pleases the other member schools without removing Harbaugh from the sidelines for this season.

not saying he is smart but this is a pretty good play by him.

There was a lot of smoke…

There was a lot of smoke here with Moorehead leaving and the way Oregon collapsed at the end of the season.  It seems like the focus wavered as the coaches were looking for other jobs.

Not the worst date, but the…

Not the worst date, but the strangest.  Years ago a friend set me up on a date with his girlfriend’s friend.  Actually, they gave me her email and we emailed a few times back and forth prior to going out for the first time.

I walked to the bar in Chicago where we are meeting and get a few random calls to my phone from a number I don’t recognize.  Didn’t think anything of it, but didn’t pick up.

We meet up at the bar for a few casual drinks, chat, and things are going well. She is attractive and we actually hit it off. Well the manager of the bar comes to our table and asks my date if she is so and so.  She states that there is a phone call for her.   So my date leaves and takes the call.  When she returns she states that it was her older sister, and they were just worried about her going out with someone she hadn’t met before.  They wanted to make sure she was ok.   I thought it was weird, but didn’t worry too much about it.

I believe we had one more date, that again, I thought went well, but she pretty much ghosted me after we had made some plans for the next weekend.

Whatever, hurt feelings maybe, but no big deal.   Later on I mention the details to the friend who set me up.  Turns out the girl had just broken up with her boyfriend for religious reasons, he wasn’t Jewish.   Apparently the ex had gotten into her email and read our correspondence.  He had been the one calling my phone when I was walking to the bar for our first date, and then was calling the bar/restaurant.  The whole “it’s my sister” thing was just a cover for her ex boyfriend calling up the bar to talk to her during our date.

I’ve had worse dates, like a girl I took to a hockey game at yost, where she tried to start a fight with the fans in front of us by wiping her ice cream bar on them and then dumping it under the stands.   But this thread made me reminisce.

Not a big bourbon guy, but I…

Not a big bourbon guy, but I have heard a great amount of publicity on Jack Daniels barrel proof. I’d recommend that strongly.  And you can get it easily.

I have had season tickets…

I have had season tickets for about 8 years post graduation.  Good seats on the 40 yard line.   I live in Ohio and drive a little over 3 hrs for a game. Fortunately my parents live in Ann Arbor, so I can stay with them and visit.

benefits:

having tickets makes me go to games I otherwise would not attend.  For example, the ND game this past year.  With the weather and my lack of faith in a good performance, we wouldn’t have gone.  But, it was an awesome experience in the rain!

having season tickets means you can buy the seat cushion for a cheap price for the entire season, which is stellar and helps preserve your seat.

Offer for alway tickets are nice as well (more below).

making you feel more connected to the university.

I love Michigan football, and it’s the closest I can get!

negatives:

I can’t sell the seats for nearly what I have invested in them.  It makes you wonder why I wouldn’t just grab seats on stub hub the morning of the game.

when purchasing away seats through the university, I have been put in the most horrible obstructed view seats I could imagine (northwestern).

The games have a significant amount of travel for me, which factors in.

the length of the games is ridiculous with the tv timeouts. 4 hrs.

I have to tailor my work schedule to fit the season due to working weekends at times.

conclusion:

I didn’t renew this year   I’m planning on buying tickets the day of the game on stub hub for 3 games a year.

How does it work with a…

How does it work with a player like Mustapha Muhammad who comes in highly ranked, at a position of need, and then seemingly transfers out before he has an opportunity to develop/contribute. How does the staff deal with these types of players?  Do they try to re recruit them to stay?

For all you highland scotch…

For all you highland scotch fans, try to find a clynelish 14 yo.  Should be in the mid $50s.  Great price for this whisky.  No peat. Classic waxy feel.

dalwhinnie 15 is a great example of a sweet highland whisky.  Gentle, no peat.   Usually a good deal for a 15 yo.  Don’t spend too much, maybe 50-60$.  Great place to start.  Additionally people enjoy Deanston for this as well.

For those of you who like peat, try a benromach or ledaig-from the isle of mull.

Another personal favorite is a non peated islay, bunnahabhain 12 yo. Excellent excellent whisky.  Sherried.  $50-60.

If you aren’t sure about blends, try compass box spice tree.   Should be in the $50s as well.

if you are looking for better prices and your state allows shipping alcohol, try to buy online.  Also know that the new tariffs on single malt scotch whisky are taking effect and will increase prices shortly.

Check out glengoyne 25.   It’s around $300 online.  Can’t be beat for value.

I was a big fan.  Strange that we don’t see him in Ann Arbor for games.   Hopefully he comes this year and is recognized.

Good point.   Martin was rarely seen.

I think they get the ball to…

I think they get the ball to Collins plenty.

DPJ normally yes, but didn’t seem to be targeted downfield during the peach bowl.

tarik black obviously wants more touches.

Gentry is used plenty and Mckeon has dropped passes.  Eubanks could be thrown to more.

Evans gets the ball but not in the way that we think he should.  The FBs are used as well, compared to other programs that use the FB.

Other than Tarik Black, I don’t see someone who wants/needs more touches.  I’m not sure Chris Evans will ever be used as much as we hope he could be in the passing game.

The TE and RB screens have seemingly disappeared.

Decrease the amount of prime…

Decrease the amount of prime time games.   After the networks pick the best game and show in in the evening slot we are left with bad games in the afternoon and multiple good games we can’t watch all of at night.

I’m not a gambler,  but I…

I’m not a gambler,  but I think it is the opposite.  The more people bet on the favored team, the bigger the spread is to get people to bet the underdog.  In this way Vegas gets equal money on each team.

I really dislike him as Pbp…

I really dislike him as Pbp.   I think I posted about it last year.   His “sack TIME” call is awful and I can’t help but repeat it every time now!   Compare it to OSU’s broadcast and it’s like Grapentine vs everyone else.   The osu guy is amazing, sadly.

So who didn’t redshirt last…

So who didn’t redshirt last year.  I think Hudson, filiaga, and Luigi all did.   So it must be someone else.

I really struggle to listen when ira is hosting.  He dominates the conversation and doesn’t have much insight.  I wish they’d find someone else to host when Sam is out.

Beer hall

Favorite beer hall is Augustiner Keller. Check that out for sure. It is the locals favorite as well.

There are many sites to see depending on your interest in history as well. Dachau is a sobering site that is done well and is on the train line.

Smws

Scotch Malt Whisky Society Linkwood 26 yo. Awesome.

Worried about partridge

That would be a huge loss. The new coaches need to be recruiters as well as coaches.

Qb

I think I can see what Harbaugh and the staff were seeing in peters, or not seeing. When he first came into the game this year, I wondered what took the staff so long to put him in. However maybe they were trying to stimulate some fire, competitiveness and drive in peters that would lead to wins. But obviously that didn’t happen.

Before this game 50:50 peters starts next year. After this game, 60 Patterson 20 peters 20 McCaffrey. Patterson not eligible then 50:50 peters.

Harbaugh

I guess if he hired an OC and hands him the keys, then not sure how he coaches?Considering he’s an offensive guy. A cheerleader like James franklin? I guess that could work. Sounds like they have Dan Enos coming in already.

Punter

Punting has been not awesome. Hopefully can improve over the offseason.

Spanellis

Man he looked big out there. He certainly looks the part. Ulizio got in there as cole’s backup at LT at the end of the game.

Agreed

I was surprised when I saw him in the game, but if they think he can help win games this year, then he’ll play. I also think it helps recruiting as high schooler players see immediate opportunity if they show well in practice.

OL 2018

I'm hoping Ruiz at C, Newsome at LT (hoping that he is back, but not optimistic), and Filiaga at RT.  Bredeson and Owenu at guard.  Still gonna be shaky, but at least they should have more than one year together.

Punt block

Can someone comment as to why Michigan has seemingly stopped being aggressive about punt blocks?

No real info but...

From what I saw from his family member near schemblecher hall it may be serious. I'm not sure what happened but saw him being carted off at the end of the game.

Hawkins

How does Hawkins work redshirt wise due to his prior year at prep school?

Agreed

JB doesn't do pbp well. I listened to a few games last year when I was traveling. I would yell about not knowing how far a run went. When Colorado was carving us up at the beginning it was very frustrating. He'd say someone found a running lane and then tackled for.....3 yards. He forgets we aren't watching the game along with him and don't know whether a running lane is 3 yards or 12 yards.

Compared to OSU's pbp, we are sorely lacking. We need a pro.

Much deserved

Congrats to both.

Backup qb

I'd like to see okorn and peters each get close to a quarter with speight coming out after one series in the third quarter, with a sizable lead.

Absolutely

I would be interested in your play by play notes for Ulizio.  Sounds good.

Black

I believe on the first pick Black didn't try hard to tackle the Florida Db. I'm sure the staff will correct that.

I looked him up

I think he was #19. He wasn't a central figure in the show. I remember him talking the the running back during one point of the show.

I looked him up, 54 tackles,3 forced fumbles, no interceptions.

Yes

I rewatch games all the time from past seasons. I know Michigan isn't winning the championship. Still love reliving these games. Mich vs byu 2015 right now.

Amazing

I was actually watching this. She was way behind until the last lap. I told my girlfriend "well, at least she's getting a better education than the other runners." Then she just turned on the jets, passed everyone, and then fought off another girl for the win! Exciting race!

Live at the schott

I couldn't believe osu pulled their goalie with 2:25 left in the third. I can't remember a team pulling their goalie so early down one.

U of M has very little skill in the front lines. The least I've seen in awhile. If they play like they did last night, with amazing goaltending, they could be .500. They were very responsible though and didn't let osu get many breakaways.

I enjoyed the game nonetheless but a change at the top needs to be made.

Despite what an excellent

Despite what an excellent class this is, I would be disappointed if we don't land a DT prospect like Solomon.

Interior DL (NT specifically) and OL are a must for this class. Despite some misses on the OL, we do have 5 recruits coming in with talent and potential. From a NT standpoint, missing on top talent for a second straight year would be difficult to patch over.

agreed

I ordered a bunch of stuff from the Dick's half off sale near xmas.  The jordan stuff all fit strangely in the arms.  I'm 6 feet, 155lbs, so I didn't understand why it was so tight in those places.  Returned just about everything.

10 years of Harbaugh coaching

10 years of Harbaugh coaching the wolverines with excellent recruiting and performance on the field, maintaining Michigan as an elite national football power.

Merry Christmas everyone !

I would love to see some highlights of Gallon and Gardner.  Eureka!

Wow

Physician here as well, not typical. If he plays next year I'll be impressed. Sounds like a pretty severe injury. Best of luck to you big guy!
