Coach Brown Was In Home With Jay Tufele Earlier Today. Harbaugh and Partridge In Home With Oliver Martin On Wednesday

Submitted by MichiganStan on

Coaching staff is busy busy busy this week. Just today Coach Brown flew out west to visit with Jay Tufele. Tufele is the #3 ranked DT in the country and ranked #41 overall. Right now Utah seems to be leading but Michigan did make his Top 5 he put out a month or so ago.

And then Harbaugh and Partridge will visit WR target Oliver Martin in school and in home Wednesday. Martin is the #28th WR in the country. Notre Dame was the clear leader but Michigan is defintely trending as of late. Michigan will be trying to get Martin to fly to Ann Arbor for an official visit soon as well

This NSD leadup seems like it's silent compared to last year.

Then again, we knew we were gonna catch Moby Dick on NSD, and a bunch of Great Whites in the days leading up to NSD.

Yeah but we had Committmas!!!! which was defintely one of the most exciting offseason times I can remember. Just hoping all these visits will amount to us landing one or two of these guys

What do you mean? You think you have a better sense of where recruits stand than the coaches? I'm not saying we land Tufele, but if Michigan is sending coaches to visit him, I suspect they've been in communication with him. Additionally, he hasn't yet announced. UM coaches might as well recruit until the end.

I mean we are technically in his Top 5 so there's no reason to not have some sort of communication. It'd be horrible for them to just give up, Tuefle signs somewhere else, and then says something like "Well I was interested in michigan but they stopped recruiting me"

Our chances dont seem very good though. Out of his Top 5 I'd guess Utah, USC, and OSU are ahead for sure. Then BYU and UM outside shots

I have read/heard that OSU is out for Tufele as well. It is most likely Utah or USC for him.

I think OSU is all in for Marvin Wilson the 5* DT out of Texas. FYI, per Sam Webb he thinks Solomon is better now than Wilson but not quite as big.

Side note -- I don't follow non-M recruiting much but am surprised I haven't seen much regarding Texas since they brought in Herman. I was somewhat hoping he would make a late run at the 5* TX kids that are current OSU commits..Browning, Okudah, and I think one other besides Wilson who announces on NSD.

The parallels between Texas and Michigan prior to Harbaugh are pretty remarkable. Both were great programs that could go in and take just about any kid they wanted, and every kid wanted to go there. Then both had coaches that gotten a little stale. Both programs hired a coach that not all donors/fans supported, as well as ADs that were corporate minded trainwrecks. Fortunatly Michigan eventually recovered and hired Harbaugh, however upon his hire, he had to rebuild Michigan's reputation with recruits. Texas is at the stage right now where their reputation doesn't carry the same weight with recruits that it once did, and needs to be rebuilt.

Losing with Kansas will do that to you.

Sam Webb is basically taking that information from analysts who were at the all star games and saw extended action of both.  That is absolutely what a few of them have said - Solomon is better, but Wilson is intimidatedly huge, and physically looks like an NFLer.

So instead of Sam thinks, it should be Sam is regurgitating info from those in the know who think.

IMO, Solomon is definitely better.  Very much like Hurst - disruptive.  Wilson is the perfect clog in the middle though.  He can stand his ground vs. double teams like no other.

Sam was at the all-star games himself so what makes you think this is regurgitated and not his own opinion from his own analysis?

You got my neg because definitive statements like this, likely without first hand knowledge of the situation yourself, drive me nuts. Especially when you give your own analysis when you probably havent seen anything but some highlight tape.

This post is full of hypocrisy, discrediting Sam Webb's opinions as basically stealing from others, but then offering your own which happens to be the same as Sam's. That is, unless you've been scouting Solomon and Wilson all year long and were at the all star game.

Unless USC is completely stepping on their own dicks (which happens perplexingly often), they are going to recruit in the Top 5 just by existing.

It's just them and comatose UCLA in one of the most talent-rich areas in the country.

Florida and Texas have amazing talent too, but there are like 20 top programs within a 3 hour drive fighting over it.

I think it would take a big change to get a commit from Tufele.

Who knows, but he is probably staying on the West Coast.
