How long?

We will discuss these things until the season starts.  It has always been like that.  If you are wanting to discuss Michigan football June - July, what else is out there to talk about besides recruiting?

Which would you prefer

Which would you prefer, assistant coaches with ambition?  Or assistant coaches that are content?  I attended a leadership conference that had both Bobby Bowden and Mark Richt in a pannel discussion.  Both coaches leaned toward ambitious coaches who wanted to climb the ladder.  MGoBoard, what do you think?

More Dangers than just Sharp Fins

The big danger is you don't always know what else lives in the hole.  Gators like to live in holes and hollowed out logs, so do large snapping turtles.  Under the banks are a lot of catfish.  But if the hole ends up being dry, get your hand out quickly, water moccasins congregate in the dry holes.

For those who think being a red neck happens only in the south, look around.  Rednecks live everywhere.  You might not noodle up there, but it isn't because your better, its because there isn't big enough catfish.  Even if there were, yall don't know how to cook it mo better.  Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez!

At Some Point It Changes

Early in the year, you don't show more than you have to.  At some point in the schedule it becomes show more than you intend to.  Having teams practice against schemes you do not intend to use against them is a great way to have the opposing team waste practice time.  One sure thing about watching Michigan's limited play book this past game, it sure was fun!

Hardwork now pays off later

Good thoughts.  I can't remember who said it, but the quote was "when oppurtunity knocks, it is too late to prepare."

make one change

Decent list.  I am willing to go along with you for the most part.  But why have MSU higher than Michigan?  Even if I thought MSU would finish better, writing it down for all to see would give me the dry heaves.  But I respect the fact that you are trying to be objective.  I am trying to look at it objectively as well, and I see Michigan finishing higher than spartie.

Hope He Does Great in Iowa

Having lived in Iowa for 20 years (actually only 3, but it felt much longer), here are some suggestions for some fun things to do.  He can...um, well there is the...eh.  I hope he likes corn.

Dave Brandt

When I was a senior @ Jenison High School, Brandt was a junior.  Man that guy was a beast.  Really nice guy.  Every time he knocked me down in practice, he would help me up.  I suspect it was just to knock me down again.

Fun to See

the OP is right.  It sure is fun to see the kids you competed with/against make it to the big leagues.  I played football with a couple of guys who made it big.  It was always fun to watch them play.

New Orleans Food

I have had the privilege to live and eat in New Orleans for the past six years. In my honest opinion, the Big Easy has the best restaurants in the country. If you ever make it down to the “crescent city” here are three suggestions. Go to Dragos for the char-grilled oysters. Crazy Johnies for the bar-b-que shrimp (It is not what you think of when you think “bar-b-que”. The juices that the shrimp is in is incredible. I not only sopped up the juice with bread, but I also injected it right into my blood stream. Lastly, if you are looking for something a bit more “highbrow”, go to “Restaurant August” owned by world class chef John Besh. Restaurant August is where I had my best meal ever. I know with the moniker of “Spam and beans” it might seem like I shouldn't be listened to, but trust me, New Orleans is where it is at.

Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez

Offense wasn't rebuilt

I am pretty sure Callahan's OC stuck with the new coaching staff at Nebraska.  The Defense is what was rebuilt at Nebraska.  But I agree that I wouldn't want a drastically different Offense put in place if things turn bad this year.  What would really be bad if a change is made, is that I really think 2011 in going to be an amazing year for Rich Rod and Michigan, if Rich Rod is allowed to stay.

Taking hits matter

I can't argue with your math.  Seriously, I suck at math.  I find comfort in the quote about there being three kinds of lies.  "lies, damn lies, and statistics". So don't know math, but I did play High School football.  What I learned is getting hit hurts.  The more hits you take, the worse you feel.  Some Saturday mornings took extreme effort just to get out of bed.  Also, you can keep tabs on injuries, but players play hurt all the time, sometimes out of necessity.  They don't keep stats on that.  Forcier might not have played some games last year if there had been an adequate back up.  What constitutes an injury?  Being out for a play, a series, a game, a season?  I don't know.  But I do know that getting hit hurts, and it doesn't take math to figure it out.

How confident are you of

How confident are you of Devin Gardner being ready to go this year?  I am not that confident.  But a reasonable argument can be made for Gardner.  Who is the fourth option that we can win with?

Right On

When I saw his grade for the O-Line at a C+, I stopped worrying about what else was written.  What is a "Gutless Prediction"?  It is a prediction based on what was, rather than figuring out what will be.

Coach Carr Understood Why

I remember an interview where coach Carr was asked about spread O's, and running quarterbacks.  He said his concern was exposing quarterbacks to injuries.  I love Rich Rod's spread, but the quarterbacks do take a beating.  You can't have just one or two guys you can win with.  You need a lot more.  Even with a Pro style O. we would have needed more quarterbacks than we have had in recent years.

Wow, if this bothers you, you

Wow, if this bothers you, you are probably one of those guys on this sight that correct punctuation.

I'll take a "decent" Tigers Team

Started watching the tigs in 84.  Stayed a fan through the horrible 90's.  Never wavered as a fan but  had to take a lot of Advil.  The start of the new century came with the same old tigers.  If sweeping two teams in a row only means the tigers are "decent", then I'll take "decent" and be happy.  "Decent" has got to be better than the 20 year stretch us older tiger fans endured.

You didn't see him

You just felt his wind.

Impossible

How could I ever possibly run into Denard.  He is too fast, I could never catch him.  Denard would have to run into me.  But even if he did, I would never know it was him.  I could only suspect it was him.  Even though I couldn't see him, I would think some of his awesomeness might rub off on me.  For a short time, I may be able to run, a little faster.

Hey Nebraska

Welcome to the Big 10.  I am glad we got you into the fold.  You are a good pickup for the conference.  I hate you.  I can't wait to see Michigan hand your a$$ to you.  If you play Michigan in the Big House, I hope your flight back home is long and misserable.  I hope your cheerleaders cry.  If Michigan plays you in Lincoln, I hope the Big red fans go home weeping.  I hope the coaches take away the black jersies after Michigan puts up 48 pts on you.  I am going to enjoy hating you because of the split national championship, and the travesty that was the alamo bowl.  .  Again, welcome to the Big Ten.

Wow, I like the passion

Is there a way to put your words into music?  Reading your post made me feel patriotic.  Take that ND!

My Bad

I live in Lousiana, And down here Saban is the "devil", and the guy people would like to see leave.  Got my wires crossed.

Just Let Us Enjoy This One

I don't know if what you wrote is true or not.  But for Pete's sake, let us enjoy this one!  We don't need a reminder that Michigan is not out of the woods.  We know already.  Jeez.  USC just got whooped, Saban is interviewing for the Cleveland job, let me enjoy it for the day.

What was Beilein Thinking

When Beilein was hired as Michigan's Basketball Coach, obviously he was supposed to concern himself with the success of WMU.  Why else would Michigan have hired him?  And the Assistant coach who spurned WMU, you have to wonder why he would leave the high profile broncos program to join UofM and Big Ten Basketball?  Doesn't he know that national exposure and amazing resumes are the stuff of WMU?

If My Math is Right

2 in the top 12 = being #1!

In your face Michigan haters.  We're #1.

Splenda bad

I dont' care for splenda...but I get your point.

I agree, But don't know why

Joeyb; I am wondering what will happen to the BCS as a result of expansion.  There is also speculation about what the SEC will do if Big Ten, Pac Ten grow signigicantly.  Miami, and Florida State have been mentioned as possibly joining the SEC.  Does expansion make a playoff less likely or more likely?  Or perhaps make no difference at all.  I tend to think it makes a playoff more likely, but not clear in my thinking as to "why".  Why do you think the BCS won't be around much longer?  Any thoughts on this from joeyb or the rest of the mgoblog community would be appreciated.

Not Everyone Involved Made Millions

I didn't make a damn cent.  Instead I got cheated.  Players like Alan Trammel, and Sweet Lou might not make the hall because their numbers don't look so good compared to the steroid era.  They are getting cheated worse than me.  As a fan I have gotten cheated twice.  I got cheated with the whole steroid issue, and cheated last night with a blown call.

Got online to give you a +1

I was offline, not intending to comment.  But you wrote the words I was thinking with the amount of desperation I was feeling.  Plus 1 to you, sir.

Texas Only Seems Like the South

I used to be a Yankee.  At the time I thought Texas was in the South because it was...well, south.  Now that I live in the South, I now know that Texas is not in the South.  Put your compass away, it has nothing to do with direction and everything to do with culture.  Texans don't even consider themselves southern, they consider themselves Texans.  I have also been taught that there was no "civil war", it was the war of "northern aggression".   Lastly, Everybody loves Raymond may not have been an exciting show, (but what sitcom is exciting) but it was very funny.  All you need to enjoy Everybody Loves Raymond is a wife, a couple of kids, and some in-laws.  Once you have those things, the shows hilarity becomes apparent.

Keep Joe Pa Happy

For many of the reasons already posted.  And to keep Joe Pa happy.  Remember it was Joe who made a pain of himself before last season talking about expansion.  (thanks Joe)  And because Jim Delaney is the puppet master.

About Jim Delaney, sometimes I can't stand the guy, sometimes I love him.  Lately its been more love.  Has the rest of the board found that to be the case?

Anger caused restraint

After reading the initial article, I was pretty upset with Carr, and very disappointed.  I really liked Carr, even though I was relieved when he announced his retirement.  I didn't want to see him fired, but I didn't want him to continue coaching.  I wanted to remember the best of Carr, and not games like the Appalachian state game.

So I was angry and disappointed in what I thought Carr had done.  Because I was angry and disappointed, my mind was too muddled to right something nasty and apparently untrue.  I am relieved that Carr wasn't the villain the book portrayed him, even though the target was never Carr.  And I am glad my mind is too slow to give immediate response that could end up making me look stupid.  I am still not happy with Morgan Trent, but maybe I need to give him the benefit of the doubt as well.

But only Love

But only love can mend it again.

They are ranked high because

They are ranked high because of last year, not this year.  "Iowa won a BCS game last year, so they must be good this year".

"Penn State beat LSU last year, and they are part of the SEC which has never lost a game in the history of the universe.  So PSU must be amazing or have Jedi abilities."

Compare the final rankings of last year to the way too early rankings of this year, and there is little difference.

Watched to the end

MGoJen, sorry for the bad thoughts I was thinking towards you while watching the first half of the Utube Video.  I am not proud of what was spoken under my breath.  But then, the sun came out, I heard birds singing, the sound of children playing, and all was right with the world.  My disdain turned to joy, and my cursings turned into blessings.  Thanks

Cocky Comes Later

This is a big game, and a tough game.  I think Michigan will win, but am nervous about it.  Some on this board have an "of coarse Mich will win this game" attitude.  And that is okay, fans can have that attitude.  I sure as hell hope the mich players don't have that attitude.  After Mich goes bowling and comes back with an impressive victory, then I'll strut my stuff, and become that arrogant Michigan fan again.  I have been humbled for too long.  I still hope I got it.

Expansion opens up Other cities

If Missouri joins - St Louis

Rutgers - New Giants/Jets stadium

Syracuse or Pitt - probably doesn't change that much

Rumor Has It That Uconn, after having watched extensive Utube videos of Dilithium Robinson, might not even show up. If you hadn't heard that rumor,it is because I started it only yesterday. Rumors aren't as fast as D. Robinson.
Good luck and thanks Even though this year was a bust, and now it appears next year will be a tough year, it is still time to say "thanks" for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is for last years NCAA bid and first round win. Watching Michigan get in was a real treat. Good luck Manny, I hope you eventually realize your dream of playing in the NBA.
I too had great success in I too had great success in video game football. I would pass out of the punt formation and gain huge yardage. It didn't matter what down it was. Does this make me an expert in real college football? Probably. I just can't get anybody to hire me.
Agreed Carr might have been the one to recruit Molk, but Rich Rod is the one who will have coached him up.
Why I Like Rich Rod Tradition is quite often awesome, and somtimes stale. Winged helpmet? Awesome. Touching the banner? Awesome. Hail to the Victors? Awesome X2. Never having played a night game at the big house? Stale. Here is to hoping that rich rod continues to keep the great traditions, gets rid of the stale ones, and adds a few great traditions of his own. Cheers. (don't have an oppinion on the piped in music. I live too far away. Although I did hear the stadium play that horrible song "Tonights gonna be a good night". What is up with that?)
Irish...You are alright. I appreciate your sense of humor. Just not your team. Although the young lady the TV kept showing during the Michigan/Notre Dame game, that was a Notre Dame fan I wouldn't mind seeing again. But you handle things well. Keep posting.
Make me feel old People posting about movies I have never heard of with actors I am unfamiliar with. When did my generation get passed by? Got a wife, got a job, got four kids, started having a self imposed bed time? I am old enough now to not even want to know who these people are. Hey college kids, take it from a former college kid. Life comes at you fast.
Right on I don't think Uconn will be able to run the ball. But in my thinking, they might not have to. Our secondary is extremely young. Uconn's secondary is also very young. Which secondary will get it together the fastest will be the winner. Anyone else worried about special teams? Freshman starting at punter and kicking field goals can't be a great thing.
Being from the swamps of Being from the swamps of Lousiana, I love fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, and softshell crab. Oh, don't forget hush puppies to go with catfish. Man, I can't believe I almost forgot the fried crab fingers!...dang, I'm dying from a heart attack for sure.
Aint nothin like the real thing New Orleans is my adopted home town. There are only three things that we do well down here; food, parades, and highschool football. That is it. You will not impress a true New Orleans resident with Yankee food masquerading as southern let alone as cajon or creole. Even if by some miracle Zingerman's Po Boy is as good as the Po Boys down here (impossible) no one down here would ever admit it. Take him to Blimpy Burger, take him to the deli. But for all that is good and holy, don't take him to anything that you would consider "cajon". It will bring on homesickness and disappointment. FWIW I gained 40lbs in one year when I moved here. Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez
Well, if coach Rod didn't, I Well, if coach Rod didn't, I did. Either way it has been taken care of. Rest easy
