About a decade since the bad…

About a decade since the bad era? That's around the time I played. Didn't realize it was that bad, but I guess we weren't viewed too favorably by Rec Sports at that time.

I thought it was standard…

I thought it was standard for assistant coaches to be able to take promotions without a buyout. I doubt Gattis will leave for another OC position.

Stop making fun of Gary. He…

Stop making fun of Gary. He does have dyslexia according to this article from the MGoBlue, which I doubt would lie about something like this. A timed reading test is a huge challenge for an individual with a reading disability. Some are able to manage with strategies and it's difficult to tell they have a disability, and others can do pretty well as long as they aren't timed. I'm pretty sure the NFL does not accommodate individual needs for something like this.

I'm not as knowledgeable as…

I'm not as knowledgeable as many of the posters here, but it seems like the coaches still don't trust the offensive line and use multiple tight ends to help the tackles.

Of course this condenses almost all players into the box making it difficult to run, and gives Patterson very few options to throw the ball, so would it really be much worse to put the best offensive weapons out there at the same time?

Well you included Metellus…

Well you included Metellus in your post so you beat me on that.

If you're referring to the…

If you're referring to the posts I saw, then no there isn't any scuttlebutt. It's literally someone just guessing Filiaga for no reason and with no evidence. Every time a rumor comes up about a transfer or an injury, people come rushing in to say "I have no evidence to support this, but probably player x just because." Then someone else reads it, takes it seriously and posts on a different board that they've heard something, and now the echo chamber is in full effect and people are speculating on kids who aren't involved in anyway.

Maybe some of the guesses are right (they're bound to be at least some of the time) but posters really need to stop with the random guess with no evidence. It offers nothing to the conversation and can only hurt the players.

I do not know every player's…

I do not know every player's schedule, but a handful of kids out of 85 graduating in 3 years isn't shocking considering:

It seems like there are more early enrollees, which gives them a full semester head start.

I believe many of them take some summer classes during their time here.

Some students probably come in with credits from AP classes.

Why did Michigan need so much

Why did Michigan need so much time to prepare their original case? I thought it was because they were trying to be as thorough as possible, now you're saying they actually could have done more. It sounds like Michigan compliance or whoever is responsible screwed this up.

Came to see Bullough get

Came to see Bullough get trucked on Smith's touchdown again. Wasn't disappointed.

I believe he returned one of

I believe he returned one of the short kicks. You wouldn't really have known if you didn't see and recognize the number because I don't believe the announcers ever referred to him by name.

This is really bad. You

This is really bad. You bumped the hype video off the first page for this.

If the news has been out for

If the news has been out for more than an hour...

Well, it's not quite a mop

Well, it's not quite a mop and it's not quite a puppet...but man.

So to answer your question, I don't know.

I wrestled Josh Churella as a

I wrestled Josh Churella as a sophomore in high school when he was a junior. He's currently an assistant coach for Michigan, and was a 3 time All American, including a runner up finish, for those who don't know him.

Not quite on Metcalf's level, but just barely. I knew what he was going to do and I still couldn't stop it. After hitting 4 or 5 single legs on me, he got bored and went for the pin.

O'Korn used his redshirt last

O'Korn used his redshirt last year because of his transfer. Of the top 5 QBs, only Peters has a redshirt to use. Malzone and Shane redshirted last year (though they could have burned them at any time) and O'Korn was ineligible. Speight redshirted the year before. O'Korn will very much be in the mix as much as any other and if it is close, may be getting snaps in the first few games along with whoever else is leading.

Obviously I think there's a

Obviously I think there's a pretty good chance Michigan wins the east next year. I think the announcers yesterday said Urban is now 50-4 at OSU (I think that includes the win over Notre Dame). If they have another good season and lose to only Michigan, that would put Urban at around 61-5 in 5 years with only one B1G title.

Yes, there were ineligible his first season and the one year they won the conference also ended with a national championship, but that's still pretty crazy to hink about. I have to imagine that would only add to the stress.

How many reps would Gentry be

How many reps would Gentry be getting at quarterback? I would imagine he is third on the depth chart at best, and probably lower. Isn't it likely this just a way to allow him to see the field as an athlete so he can help the team until he is able to get more reps at QB?

This report says he fell 15

This report says he fell 15 feet.

Worth the risk

We're all seeing what happens when the QB play is weak. If the cost of getting Hill is one scholarship for one year, I think it is worth it. He might not be healthy, and it does prevent another recruit from getting into the system, but there is just such a need for an immediate impact at QB.

Also, I bet a number of college athletes (especially those recruited by Jim Harbaugh) don't think like a normal person. While most people would feel insulted/threatened by a grad transfer, some individuals out there would see it as another competitor to beat. I don't think this chases away a lot of top recruits. They believe they can be the guy, no matter who stands in their way.

I really like this staff's ability to be honest I really like this staff's ability to be honest about player performance without being demeaning. They'll say if someone isn't quite meeting expectations so they're accountable but still stay positive about each player. I also feel like they have no problem being more blunt in a constructive manner in private. Seems like the perfect staff to play for.
That may be true most of the

That may be true most of the time, but they still put out some pretty good segments. This will certainly be another opportunity for the rest of the country to see how passionate Harbaugh is about football, and to better understand that he actually wanted to come back to Michigan since I'm sure his love for the school, history and community will be very obvious.

Just watched Coon's match.

Just watched Coon's match. Easily one of the best scrambles I've seen by heavyweights at any level. Also, just like many of the football players, Coon is one of those athletes it is easy to root for on and off the mat.

Also, Cornell sophomore Gabe Dean, a Lowell High School graduate, is in the finals at 184.

Maybe Nuss brought tempo for

Maybe Nuss brought tempo for the players participating in a given drill, but others were left standing around? Or maybe it was just in comparison to previous years, where things might have been really slow? I never played football, so I'm not sure how practices are supposed to be structured, but I certainly can believe there is the potential for a lot of standing around if the coaches are not organized.

Probably because MSU is

Probably because MSU is terrible at wrestling, and has been for a while. Fans of other schools in the conference want the MSU coach fired since they drag the conference down as a whole.

MSU has had a few accomplished wrestlers, but only those who arrived in East Lansing ready to compete at an All American level; nobody else develops.

Wow. That would be

Wow. That would be impressive. You would think top players would want to come to Michigan, and they would get the best coaching. Exciting.

The 49ers S&C coach, while

The 49ers S&C coach, while successful, seemed to be very traditional in his methods. That would be good enough, but Turley was an innovator at Stanford. I remember reading a few articles about him, and he was much more focused on core strength and flexibility, as well as position-specific workouts. He also was very successful in cutting down on injuries at Stanford, which seems like a product of his methods rather than a fluke. Granted I only know what I've read on each coach, but he seemed like the best option.

Stanford teams seemed

Stanford teams seemed prepared to dominate all their opponents. I would love to see that at Michigan again. The decreased injury rate is almost as exciting. Turley seems to be great at what he does.

He was one of the voices from

He was one of the voices from when I was younger and first started following sports. I used to get up an hour early starting in 3rd or 4th grade so I could watch Sportscenter, and he was a big reason why. He gave a great speech at I think the ESPYs a few months ago, but for some reason I thought he was doing better. It was quite a shock to hear this news this morning. Hopefully his family can find comfort in how much he touched the lives of others.

Not just "SEC speed" but also

Not just "SEC speed" but also ESPN saying every good team is built like an SEC team. That was said repeatedly about Florida State last year and several times about OSU during the win over Alabama. Because the SEC is the only conference that thought to have players who are both big AND fast.

It's still strange seeing him

It's still strange seeing him in Michigan gear. It also makes me extremely happy every time I see it.

Those jackets are awesome.

Those jackets are awesome. And the linemen don't look too much bigger than the skill guys.

That's mostly true, but now

That's mostly true, but now when I look at the team I'm not so sure. Yes, the staff brought in some good players, but how do you feel about receiver for next year? QB? Offensive line improved this year, but is still questionable. Running backs can be pretty good, but likely won't be dominating.

I thought this was more player development than anything else, but now I'm not sure. I certainly do not know as much about football as Hoke or other posters on this board, but this team looks very different from OSU, Alabama, MSU and other teams. Is that only because of coaching, or are they missing something from the types of players they recruited?

Please give up on this. It

Please give up on this. It really isn't that funny. Do you realize how violent football is? Players are hit so hard they lose control of their bodily functions. Imagine the longterm toll this takes on their health. When you think about it that way, suddenly football isn't so entertaining.

At best, this kid had an embarrassing accident on national TV. At worst, he suffered some sort of physical trauma that was severe enough to cause this. Whichever it might be, it isn't worth laughing at.

I know Rosen said he was 100%

I know Rosen said he was 100% UCLA, but I've seen a few times that Mora may want to go to the NFL. I suppose that means there's still a small chance with Rosen if Mora leaves.

Not to mention Meyer and his

Not to mention Meyer and his entire staff were allowed to focus on recruiting while the previous staff prepared OSU for their bowl game. Seemed like an unfair advantage, but with the NCAA I can't say I'm surprised.

Isn't one of Harbaugh's

Isn't one of Harbaugh's strengths identifying coaching talent? Probably best to trust him on these hires.

An experienced player who has

An experienced player who has shown the ability to compete at a high level at the weakest area on the offense? If he wants to come here, this isn't even a question. Give the young guys a year to learn the new system with no pressure, and let Harbaugh have a chance to work with them. We might end up getting one less year out of each QB? Oh well. A strong program isn't really supposed to have quarterbacks start for 3-4 years anyway.

Devin has so much talent and

Devin has so much talent and charisma that he will be successful no matter what he chooses to do. He cares about helping others, so he can certainly put that MSW to good use, but I do hope he spends some time working on becoming a commentator. I believe he would be excellent in the booth (which might hurt him since most of ESPN's crew seems to be pretty bad at their job).

Maybe we will now that

Maybe we will now that Harbaugh is here. I wouldn't be surprised to see significant improvement in all of them by next year.

Impressed by Schlissel's

Impressed by Schlissel's ability to change his outlook on college sports, and very impressed by Hackett's ability to carry out a professional search. The whole process was very calm and organized, and a very welcome change after the past few searches.

Agree. If he wants to leave

Agree. If he wants to leave the NFL, then the 49ers front office has no reason to wait to make that move. However, if they still believe there is any chance they get value for him, this will drag on.

Right, he's just not the type

Right, he's just not the type to quit, even if they are eliminated from the playoffs. He is going to take care of his players and staff, and then worry about himself. And what's the rush? As of now, Michigan is the only big time job open. We don't have to worry about other candidates getting picked up by other schools. It's not like other coaches aren't already aware Harbaugh is our number one choice.

Obviously, everyone wants to have a coach in place and it would help in recruiting. But this needs to be the best hire possible. We need to put a stop to the downward trend of the past few years, and need someone to compete with Meyer. We can all wait a little longer to make sure it is done right.

While there is still a chance

While there is still a chance Harbaugh may stay in the NFL, this tweet just shows Rapoport and the other NFL reporters probably don't have any facts when they write off Michigan. Everything seemes to be an assumption that nobody would every willingly move back to college. They don't understand that to people like Woodson and (hopefully) Harbaugh, the connection to the Michigan community is greater than anything in the NFL. Harbaugh definitely loves Michigan, and it may be enough for him to come back and coach here. That isn't necessarily a knock on the NFL; it just means some people place greater value on the things beyond football.

I can't imagine, but I sure

I can't imagine, but I sure would like to find out. I'd be very happy with the error messages that day.

Why do you doubt Hackett

Why do you doubt Hackett would pull the trigger on Stoops? The guy is proven at the highest level, and I don't believe he has anything in his past that conflicts with Hackett's criteria. Even with all the Schiano talk, I don't believe anyone could put him above Stoops.

Especially when every

Especially when every "source" seems to be saying something different. Maybe there's just a lack of solid information, which is why so many different things are being reported. if that's the case, I would really prefer that nothing gets reported. It's that or journalists just throwing out anything they hear and covering themselves with a source so they at least have something to say. Either way, I'd prefer they say nothing at all, but that doesn't feed the 24/7 news cycle.

At first I thought Meyer's

At first I thought Meyer's success was just a product of a talented roster in a weak conference. After watching Miller, Barrett and now Jones all step in and tear it up, I understand what he has managed to do in Columbus. They're a machine, and it is going to be painful if Michigan doesn't bring in a coach to match Meyer. I think Hackett fully understands the importance of this decision.

I'm just going to keep

I'm just going to keep telling myself that the seach is being run the right way this time, and this is just meant to keep the pressure off our top choices.

Completely agree. So many

Completely agree. So many writers are talking about this as if the only things that matter are dollar figures and NFL prestige. Yes, the NFL is the highest level of football, but that doesn't mean it has the same emotional connection as other jobs. Nobody can know exactly what Harbaugh feels, but it sure seems like his time at Michigan was a lot more meaningful than just finding a place to play before moving on to the NFL. Does his love for Michigan outweigh all the other factors? I hope so, and it's not like he would have to take a pay cut to come here. His decision could go either way, but there is definitely more to it than "this is the NFL."

I noticed ESPN really went

I noticed ESPN really went downhill with the whole "embrace debate" push a few years back. They started making every show nothing more than people yelling about stupid, pointless things. I would at least watch their programs a couple times a week before that, now I can't stand anything other than College Gameday.
