but is NFL.com going to put out rumors of Harbaugh going to Michigan? Who could really be the source of a report that Michigan is convinced he isn't coming? It's odd that NFL reproters are the only ones who get that info. It would be more credible if they didn't give inconsistent reasons for why he's not coming. Frankly, both the NFL and Michigan reporters appear to be  pushing an opinion their readers want to hear.

I don't understand what the benefit would be for NFL reporters to push some NFL uber alles agenda. All it will do is make them look like fools if Harbaugh comes here. I know we all want to have our world views confirmed whenever possible, but I have to believe that if Schefter or Mort or Rappaport or whoever could in any way confirm that Harbaugh was leaning toward Michigan, they'd report it just for the sake of getting the scoop.

These people report on things that make the NFL look bad all the time, like the Rice situation or bountygate. To me this is essentially about how badly you need to believe that Harbaugh is coming... on one side we have the entirety of the traditional media establishment and on the other we have whispers and message board posters and ex-radio hosts.

Anyone know if Jim has been asked point blank about coaching Michigan? He has been asked "what he thinks" about what's going on there and sort of dodged it, but I want to know if he has been challenged directly on it.

It's going to be a long 4-5 weeks with all of the speculation. Kind of hoping the Raiders upset 49ers today, and Baalke and York Fire him. Speculation is running rampant, ready for it to end, and only Harbaugh knows what he is going to do come seasons end.

Rapoport has been one of the guys saying the Dolphins are a potential landing spot for Harbaugh, which makes a lot of sense because Ross said that Harbaugh would not be a candidate for the Dolphins job. No credibility in my mind. I think things over the next 3 weeks will get pretty quiet, and may appear more negative than positive. It's nothing new that the NFL guys think he is going to stay in the NFL. We'll hear more of that in the coming weeks.

on and suggesting he knows something inisderish. Until Harbabugh informs the school directly that he is not interested in the job, then he has first refusal rights. If Harbaugh turns Michigan down, Michigan will move swiftly to fill the job. There is no reason to wait for anyone else. So, until you hear tomorrow from Harbaugh at his 49er press conference that he is not a candidate to coach at Michigan and wishes to remain in the NFL, consider the source who is alleging something other sources are not revealing elsewhere.

You know Ross didn't say anything right? And that if he had it would be highly against NFL rules? You're basicaly choosing to believe one report over another simply because one aligns better with your desired endgame.

Thanks for clarifying, my bad. I just left Facebook where some Ohio State fan commented on a friend's thread about how it seems like the Ohio State program, since Woody Hayes, has been "sprinkled with fairy dust" and is the program of the year every year. I am understandably enraged and can't see straight.

I hate to say it but JH will not leave the NFL to come back to Ann Arbor....at this time. Maybe in 3 or 4 years but I've been saying ever since Hoke fired...don't count on him being the savior this year. He has too much unfinished business in the NFL....the family does not want to leave....and he likes Hoke. Get ready for choice 2-6..... If any of them want to come....doubtful

An awful lot of people here sound like Notre Dame fans did about Meyer and Gruden during ND's last search.  Basically every non-Michigan source at this point has said that Harbaugh is not interested in the MIchigan job.  Could they all be wrong?  Sure.  No one has a direct line into Harbaugh's head.

But people are reacting like every legitimate source saying Harbaugh ain't coming needs to be burned at the stake and is making stuff up, while every random person who says Harbaugh is coming has ironclad evidence.  It's...unseemly.

I've always thought Harbaugh was a long shot, but it seems that guys glued into college sports hear Harbaugh is interested while guys locked into the NFL here he's staying.  To me, that's called "negotiating" and "maximizing your options" by Harbaugh and his agent than some clear consensus people are missing.

These same journalists list Miami as a destination for Harbaugh when the public has known otherwise for some time. These "sources" are either woefully misinformed or they're just the buttholes of the journalists themselves.

one single NFL reporter

one member of this group you're decrying as uniformly horrible at their jobs

reported that Stephen Ross was not interested in Harbaugh

It's like people here think he had a press conference declaring this to the world

What of those being told by people they trust who have knowledge of the situation that Harbaugh is interested in the Michigan job? Why is that so completely unfathomable? I'm not saying it's some kind of done deal, but these absolutes on both sides are beyond annoying.
