Yes - much like Logan Square, it is SO different from back then.
But you're right you've gotta figure out your routes to avoid traffic... or just plan to deal with it. I actually really like the divvy bikes - have to map a route you're comfortable with, but it can really open up options, especially this time of year.
Seconded. In West Town for the last few years after time in several other neighborhoods over the last decade (also Venice/Santa Monica and Minneapolis... the latter of which I also highly recommend for circumstances like the OP's).
Sure there are issues, but we actually have a great CPS option around the corner and a great little community along with a lot of up and coming commerce that is walkable on top of great access to the rest of the city.
It's not for everyone, but the blanket "Chicago is a dumpster fire" talk track is absolutely inaccurate.
Here are some spots where there should be a friendly crowd and they'd definitely put the game on if it isn't on already depending on where you are in the city. Unfortunately I won't be able to get out of the house to watch tonight. UM Club of Chicago tries to keep a good number around town distributed across neighborhoods:
I just gotta say a massive THANK YOU to I Bleed Maize N Blue.
For years now, you have kept these hockey threads alive even when we are relegated to BTN+. When I'm stuck dealing with kids' bedtimes or other obligations, these threads are a life saver to figure out what actually happened / get some real time updates when I have a minute.
Another under-appreciated mgoblog difference maker.
Thank you and GO BLUE - let's light it up in the 2nd half of the season!
Just FYI I was looking to make sure I shopped the right place yesterday and the "$upport (lol)" link still just contains a StubHub affiliate link. May want to update to TicketIQ?
This homepage post is probably more relevant, but figured just in case I wasn't the only person searching for it on the Support page.
Any chance of also posting the game preview earlier in the day on Friday? Maybe the same time or earlier? Same story and I'm sure a lot of folks like me out there looking to read it earlier who might get distracted / become unavailable to read it later in the day..
...and not in small part because their PAC-12 $ has been funding their non-rev sports. Honestly won't be sad to see what happens when that goes away. And another reason I don't care to see them join the B1G.
You can definitely share with someone else locally in Portland if you are willing to make them a part of your google "family." I think as long as they are relatively geographically close there won't be much second-guessing and you can have something like 5 concurrent streams which shouldn't be a problem as long as you're only splitting with only one person/family.
And even better if they are fans of an out-of-town NFL team because then you can just split the cost of the ticket with them.
Based on the way your fandom sounds, once you spread across 17 games it might make sense to just get the ticket since it is a one-and-done expense (if you're not looking to go to a bar to watch every game - and considering the tab to do that 17x), plus if you can split with a friend, seems like a decent value.
I'm not generally a stan for the ticket but I also think they had an early purchase incentive... may have ended 7/1, but could be 8/1?
Like the Tigers & other "old school" smaller market teams, they're fun to root for, especially with big market teams spending huge and failing spectacularly.
Hope they can keep it up. I was definitely a skeptic heading into the year, but they have proven me wrong and then some.
Perhaps this is something Brian/Seth would consider sponsoring / providing some compensation for? Feels like front page material.
Also... having been to several games in Columbus, I can refute all 3 potential reasons for their fans having a bad reputation. Either something dramatically changed after COVID or this was a total one-off example of things going fine for a Michigan fan there.
I mean it wasn't the right thing to do for the kid or for the sake of the game.... but it is also kinda hilarious, especially given the reaction to the previous call.
Dude you're mad because you resorted to random ad hominem attacks and got banned from the discord. Take a deep breath. It is a game.
I've personally seen no evidence people are going to stop playing because they're using a website for orders vs. a long list on discord. And at least this time there are options vs. just a single command in the past.
My understanding is they claimed to have "vetted" OSU's gains, so they are saying that the dropoff was just general attrition, not evidence of bots so they don't have to admit they didn't really vet anything.
That one turn screwed the game up more than anything because it messed up strategy for yesterday, which combined with the aTm fiasco and some unfavorable rolls... did not go well.
They never should have re-rolled it - should have just been a fresh roll Monday with the captcha and figure out either an extra roll later or end the game one turn shorter than planned.
If you want to do that, maybe just defend Dallas or Sinaloa to prevent them from getting region bonuses in Texas or Mexico? If there aren't many others attacking down there, might be a wasted turn otherwise...
I think someone on Discord said there were ~200 people who used the whataremyorders website, about 90% followed through, and they know who the 10% were who did something else. That's a pretty good # in addition to the discord folks... hopefully that option helps things pick up steam.
Think it would be helpful if there were more transparency on the discord with a breakdown of the website orders vs. the discord ones just in case there are lurkers/rogues / people who think they "know better" since more info could help inform better strategy for them, assuming they aren't going to take orders either place.
Wasn't it through a discord? If all those people are gone it will be pretty difficult to recreate the strategy (not to mention whatever tool it was they used so you could get your assignment).
Edit: There's a discord thread for M people, but I haven't seen anything about vetting like they used to do.
I believe a friend was able to get someone in dining services to share the recipe with him many years ago, but the fact that it is now fully public is amazing. Said friend may have even concocted an ode to the Bake.
Definitely on the menu this winter. All hail Chicken Broccoli Bake.
kyle.aaronson writes the weekly betting diaries. He has been having trouble getting them to post, so this week he posted a link to a PDF of his post in the diary.
To get it to post as a diary, he had to get to 200 words so he typed some random other info about what he ate for Thanksgiving.
OP here was probably confused that the extra words weren't needed for a board post. I agree your suggested post makes more sense, but also no need to ridicule.
Did anyone read the post at the link? If not... take a look and enjoy it. And stop downvoting what is clearly an insanely legit fan, probably more than most of us.
I'm gonna bite... how do people know when points are on/off? You're looking at your post then checking if your total went up? Or looking at up/downvotes to track? I just don't think I would typically know either way.
Either way... good for points since I do look at posters'/commenters' point totals to determine how much I care about their content and think they are generally a helpful barometer aside from the odd shitposter out there - in which case join dates are probably more helpful.

Feels like time for muppets?
MSP here we come!!!

FatPour (Division St. - Wicker Park)
Black Barrel Live (North Ave - Old Town)
Matilda (Sedgwick - Lakeview)
Moe's Cantina (Kinzie - River North)
Duffy's (Diversey - Lincoln Park)
The Boston teams are so good... hopefully at least one of them goes down today or tomorrow...
Would be fun to see Cornell advance too.
Ultimately... let's just take care of business ourselves. Perfect opportunity for revenge for last weekend's ref show.
Fair enough. I missed it watching the show live and had just scrolled down the thread and found this link. Either way can’t hate on Friday night slot.
Looks like we got ESPNU. Can’t hate on the Friday night slot.
Yes please
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story.

The more I look at it, the more it seems like it is almost on purpose.
Kyle McCord as …
Kyle McCord as "Shutterstock Pouting Man"
This is all I can see there...
Is this some kind of MSU week troll job?
How can posts still not be edited???? Come on... there's gotta be a fix and how is this not higher priority?
Maybe by wearing all black they are trying to disappear into the night?
Or they're being mimes for Halloween and trying out their costumes early?
I get it... night game = black uniforms, but it seems a bit obvious.
Houston just got absolutely screwed on a fumble that would have been returned for a TD had the whistle not blown. Refs are in the bag for WV.

At least Gio is smiling on the sideline / in the celebrations... so hopefully not a big issue.
Less interesting than the other night for a number of reasons for sure but a win is a win...
Also Paramount+ is dumb. I just watch with the spanish-language broadcast on Univision which is much more entertaining even if I only pick up 20%.
Getting ugly indeed
Wow what a start to the 2nd half. 2-0.

Everybody should take a moment and read this profile. Pulling for the best for this kid (although the 4.3 40 time has to score 5 FAKES out of 5).
I mean it wasn't the right thing to do for the kid or for the sake of the game.... but it is also kinda hilarious, especially given the reaction to the previous call.
Their team is 90% mercs, not people who started with Chaos as their primary team
No, and it shouldn't be treated as the record if he gets it.

Some interesting progress with the new strategy.
If anyone missed tonight's roll, orders are already ready for tomorrow's, so jump in!

"removed" ... aka removed from every team but OSU because their bots were "verified"
Agree there definitely must be a mole or moles.
XM - I nominate you to infiltrate enemy defenses and report back what you learn to leadership regularly. (And also to track down the moles.)
If you want to do that, maybe just defend Dallas or Sinaloa to prevent them from getting region bonuses in Texas or Mexico? If there aren't many others attacking down there, might be a wasted turn otherwise...
The folks creating the strategy are saying discord if you're on there.

Risk 1.0 Bot
I think the first few days let a team build its base and if you defend you get some kind of points / credit for when you do attack

I think both Ferentz's are quite familiar with an offense that goes for 3's only.
