CFB Risk Day 28: It's Time to Prepare the Nukes

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on February 22nd, 2023 at 1:06 PM

Pre-Recap Announcements:

It was kind of obvious to everyone that something was going on between us and Texas A&M. And it was. We were prepared to work with them to defeat our shared enemy of OSU. Then last night happened.

Last night, Texas' ugly cousin betrayed us. They lied to us. All of their promises were as weak as their Clinical Psychology program. Or their commitment to a healthy football program culture.

I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty details. Just know that I'm seething, and it takes a lot to truly piss me off.

So we're going to start throwing our weight around, and good luck to whoever catches a fist. Our enemies have f*cked around, and now they're going to find out. OSU cheated with their Clone Army, poor man's Texas lied to us, and we're done messing around.

The map is below.

As you can see, the team that hasn't won a major sports championship since WWII started (football in 1939) used us to consolidate its holdings, and OSU blasted the North. Other schools also exist.

I'm ready to go nuclear. Come and join me at the silo.

If anyone wants to help recruit via your personal social media, here is a photo to use. I put the following text in the first comment so there are clickable links for those who choose to play.

Easy as 1-2-3; takes 30 seconds each day.

  1. Visit www.collegefootballrisk.com and login with Reddit.

  2. Select Michigan as your team.

  3. Pick a territory to attack or defend.

• Simple Tactic – Attack OSU (gray), Wisconsin (bright red) or Texas A&M (dark red).

• Intermediate – Visit www.whataremyorders.com and get an attack / defend order aligned with Michigan’s overall strategy.

• Advanced – Join the Michigan Risk Discord at www.bit.ly/VictorsRisk and request vetting to pick your order.

The “roll” happens at 10:30pm ET each night except Sundays. We’re on turn #28 and the game ends with the 45th turn. You gain more power in the form of stars if you play every day.

No one likes us
I don't know why
We may not be perfect
But heaven knows we try
But all around
Even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one
And see what happens

We give them money
But are they grateful
No, they're spiteful
And they're hateful
They don't respect us
So let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one
And pulverize them

* * *

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

We'll meet again
Don't know where, don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Til the blue skies chase those dark clouds far away

All of their promises were as weak as their Clinical Psychology program.

My graduate program has slipped. It was top-25 when I was there, now it's only in the top-30.

I still have some good friends there, but I'm ready to start dropping some bombs for the good of humanity. The Corps of Cadets has given them some false sense of security, but we all know they're mostly a bunch of posers playing dress-up soldiers. Hell, only 45% of them actually go on to the military and even fewer could probably pass a PFT.

And Fuck OSU. Their CFB Risk recruits are softer than their football team.

Let's fuck them up!

Statistics was not my best class, but the number of rolls that we have lost with massive numerical advantages makes the game a bit less fun.  From what I gather, the roll process is designed to favor upsets more than if it was based on pure statistical chance (like the board game), so that the smaller teams are not eliminated right from the jump.  However, it also means that we consistently lose multiple territories to teams like Wisconsin when we have a 90/10 advantage in each.  If we don't get a favorable roll or two soon, maybe we just go chaos and wreck everyone else's regions.

I'm surprised at how surprised we are when other teams betray us. Are we really that naive?

EDIT: Can someone just do a quick topography of the map and identify where there are the most conjoined territories that can be protected by the fewest border territories? I.e., X territories can be fully protected via Y territories. Maximize X, minimize Y, based on some assumptions we have about our ability to defend Y territories with our army #'s.

Then we should beeline swarm to the centerpoint of that area, and then spiral outward to the defensible borders. Then hold until the end.

Game is rigged and/or some pretty bad leadership and trusting of others who end up doing us more harm then good. I was a daily players but I think I'm done now. We look no better than Wisky which should've been taken out a long time ago.

Best of luck to all who continue pushing the rock up hill

Yeah, it feels like every day we are statistically favored to win about 29 territories, but end up with like 24.  And it happens over and over again.  I know people say the code is open source and is clean, but how many consecutive clusters of low-probability events have to go against us before it becomes suspect?  I will keep submitting my move each day, but at this point I fully expect that a 90/10 numerical advantage for us is a 50/50 event at best.

My understanding is they claimed to have "vetted" OSU's gains, so they are saying that the dropoff was just general attrition, not evidence of bots so they don't have to admit they didn't really vet anything.

That one turn screwed the game up more than anything because it messed up strategy for yesterday, which combined with the aTm fiasco and some unfavorable rolls... did not go well.

They never should have re-rolled it - should have just been a fresh roll Monday with the captcha and figure out either an extra roll later or end the game one turn shorter than planned.

I'm in this to win.  That being said, if a proposed alliance fell through this massively, it is on us...  Trust none unless they have a Maize and Blue Heart.  If we need to lie our way back into strength and that feels unethical to you... let me know, I'll gladly tell an A & M fan/alum to cross the street when the red X is up.
