Thanks! just as I thought... when you run SPI numbers it actually could have been worse 3 of the 8 other groups and just as bad in 1 leaving only three possible draws that would have been better for us. with some absolutely disastrous possibilities in B&D. I really appreciate you doing this!
Thanks! Group B (3,5 &9) & Group D(8,10 & 13) would have been way worse than what we drew. and according to SPI we have a 39% chance of coming out of our group as opposed to Portugal's 40%.
While I can certainly dream up a disatourous showing for us in this group... I can also absolutely see us moving on. While Ghana has been a thorn in the past two WCs those games could have easily gone our way. Portugal barely made it into this WC and i believe we are actually on par with them. We beat them in 2002 WC. While the draw is difficult I think our travel is actually more of an issue then the teams we drew.

Can you produce this based on SPI rankings... FIFA rankings are at best a joke. Seems we ended up in a better spot than most think and I imagine your numbers will show that even more if you use SPI. SPI link here:
The absolute best college play by play guy ever! Plus some of his best calls were from the booth in Michigan Stadium. It seemed like he would do 4-5 of our games a year on ABC back in the day.

Wasn't trying to be a douche.. This is a spot on great post this week and I thank you for it. We need more posts like this one this week. This is the greatest rivalry in all of sports and while some may have issues with the current state of the program it is important to remember what the game on Saturday means. It is not about trying to become bowl eligible or simply win our 6th game this season...it is much more than that. It is everything that Jackson had to say in that intro.

Can't early enrollees be applied to either this years class (in terms of the 25+2 number) or next years so hypothetically you could have a class over the 27 number with early enrollees being divided between this year (up to the max) and next year.

Let's not forget that Carlton Bundidge and Branden Dawson are supposed to be at the game saturday. That’s three out of the top 50 kids for 2011 all sitting together with Coach B!! (One of whom is already committed)

That's whats great about Gilchrist, he doesn't yet have an NBA body.. hes 6'6" only 180. Plus he needs to develop his outside shot. He sees how well Coach B develops guys (Gilchrist is friends with Simms)and what better coach to help him develop those skills than Coach B. So even as the #1 recruit I don't think he will be a 1 and done.
What I love about Gilchrist is how much everybody raves about his defense, very rare that a kid with his ability to slash and score takes that end of the court seriously.
Just getting this kid on campus is huge. I've been in Section 24 the last three games and coach B has had more big time recruits sitting in the stands this year than the FB team has (please don't read as a dig on FB recruiting.)

Your post is actually the complete opposite of seeing the whole forest. You are looking at one medium size tree and claiming that it in and of itself is the whole forest. If your post was about the importance of this season and how it is much more important than any number of season we came in expected to win the Big Ten or with a single digit national ranking and then listed your reasons I would have no problem. But you said that the next 2-5 years of this program lie on one game against Western Michigan and that game is even bigger than that one where we played our biggest rival for the chance to go to the MNC game.

So now not only will RR get fired if we lose tomorrow but if we beat WMU we are "setting the tone to win many national championships"..wow guys you really need some perspective.
Yes unfortunately I read your entire post. Your logic is completely flawed. RR is not going to get fired nor is he going to change the minds of those that want him fired come Sunday regardless of what the outcome of the game against WMU is. We could very well lose tomorrow but end up with a season where we show improvement beat our rivals and RR comes out of it with a stronger footing. OR we could beat WMU by 35 and lose to the much better teams(than WMU)on our schedule and have a horrible season that would cause the ultimate doom and despair you speak about in your post...so there is no way in this or any other alternate universe that tomorrows game is more important than a winner take all 1 vs 2 against OSU.
So if we win tomorrow they are sending us straight to the national championship game?...tomorrow is a big game but it is against a middle tier MAC school and is no where near as big as playing your biggest rival with the winner guaranteed to play for a national championship. Bouje your posts really just irritate me sometimes.
