Sam Webb is reporting that the #1 BB recruit for 2011 Michael Gilchrist is on campus and will be staying for tomorrow’s FB game.
#1 BB recruit for 2011 on campus
+ bonus hilarious comment from some poster calling himself "gpsimms"
he's a 6'1 white SG with offers from Valpo, Butler and Siena.
was a joke
you guys are a rough crowd. I was making fun of the people who thought Beilein can't recruit, not Beilein's recruiting.
i thought it was hilarious.
+1 will laugh again
wow my sarcasm detector needs new batteries...
Exactly it would be like people assuming your pic is actually your 8th grade yearbook photo of which you are super proud....Oh unless that actually is your 8th grade yearbook photo...either way excellent pic!!
I disagree, I believe the /sarcasm tag is necessary to convey satiric intent. Who can forget the end of Jonathan Swift's classic essay, "A Modest Proposal":
"I have no children by which I can propose to get a single penny; the youngest being nine years old, and my wife past child-bearing. /sarcasm"
this comment gained 26 points in mere minutes. Cawesome.
Just getting this kid on campus is huge. I've been in Section 24 the last three games and coach B has had more big time recruits sitting in the stands this year than the FB team has (please don't read as a dig on FB recruiting.)
I have tickets in section 22, row 43 on the aisle......coach B sat down below us for both the WMU and ND games along with a number of recruits.....nice to see.
I love what Coach B is doing with the hoops program. I can't wait until we are back in the mix for BigTen Championships as well as National. Looks like Basketball is on its way back in A2.
I am sure he's in town following the Hoosiers. Everyone wants to join the Crean and Crimson.
In all seriousness......what is that below us???
Oh, its just a ceiling, that's all.
What I love about Gilchrist is how much everybody raves about his defense, very rare that a kid with his ability to slash and score takes that end of the court seriously.
It would be fantastic to get this kid. But, with creds like his, won't he just stay for a year and bolt to the NBA? Although that year would certainly be an exciting year.
Either way, hell of a job by Beilien getting the kid on campus.
Dylan at UMHoops makes it pretty clear that everyone assumes he's going to Kentucky. I think this is more a "ZOMG SINCE WHEN DO WE GET THE #1 RECRUIT ON CAMPUS" type of excitement than anything else.
Let's start with this type of excitement and keep on moving up. I like the way things are moving with our BB recruiting.
That's whats great about Gilchrist, he doesn't yet have an NBA body.. hes 6'6" only 180. Plus he needs to develop his outside shot. He sees how well Coach B develops guys (Gilchrist is friends with Simms)and what better coach to help him develop those skills than Coach B. So even as the #1 recruit I don't think he will be a 1 and done.
So, after the last 10 years, you wouldn't want a player good enough to be in the NBA after a single season? Oh no!
Well, when you put it that way my comment looks ridiculous.
I was more going for the long term he might not do much good for the program. Such as Greg Oden helped the buckeyes to one good season and now they are starting to fall back into obscurity.
However, your point is well taken.
I know it's only ESPN, but doesn't OSU currently have the #1 recruiting class for 2010? Even if two of those guys are one-and-dones, I hardly think that counts as 'obscurity.'
oops, double post snafu, my bad
kids who are *good enough* for one-and-done, but I don't want kids who actually do that. Yeah, it's naive of me, but I still want the old school thing where kids stick around for at least three years.
This was a well-titled post. All the relevant information was right up front. I knew what I was going to read before I read it, which lets me continue to live in my happy bubble devoid of surprises.
It can only lead to great things, let's just be happy he's here.
kids take notice of the schools other top talents are interested in.
Let's not forget that Carlton Bundidge and Branden Dawson are supposed to be at the game saturday. That’s three out of the top 50 kids for 2011 all sitting together with Coach B!! (One of whom is already committed)
is a rumor but it has yet to be confirmed. Getting Gilchrist and Dawson on campus is huge for Michigan even if they don't get them. It gives the other programs a big notice that they are a big player and they should be scared of Michigan with their unique offensive system.
This is great news. I know this is just a visit, but the rebuilding of the bball team has been unreal.
Someone let that Benpom guy know. He likes to talk to all the recruits and close the deal for us.
