I’ve figured out your game Mr. Man Bun.

I'll say it: Tiger Woods in

I'll say it: Tiger Woods in his prime was the best golfer of all time. For multiple reasons, including his style of play, he just didn't have the longevity of Jack.

Alabama gave up 40 point and

Alabama gave up 40 point and 550 yards to Clemson last year. So you're saying that Don Brown with inferior talent is better than Alabama? I'll take it.

I moved to Ann Arbor last year and have a 3 month old.  I love it.  I live close enough to walk to downtown, the schools are great, daycare options are solid, lots of restaurants in town, lots of events and activities, easy access to sporting events/concerts, etc.  Taxes are certainly higher in Ann Arbor than the surrounding area, but that also depends on where in Ann Arbor you live - Burns Park and Ann Arbor Hills are some of the highest taxed areas... with most of the highest income families.

Just an FYI, the legal

Just an FYI, the legal analysis regarding FOIA doesn't look like it came from someone who deals with FOIA on a day to day basis and is familiar with the large body of case law on the subject.  If UofM has a policy that it deletes emails older than one month, then courts will generally find that the record was not disposed of "arbitrarily," but rather pursuant to an established policy.  Its all about creating a procedure and sticking to that procedure.

I pretty much watched that

I pretty much watched that whole thing with my jaw open in shock.  This needs to be killed, now.

O-Line Play

The offensive line play was not nearly as bad as anticipated watching the game live (it started cracking in the 4th quarter after the game was decided).  The line actually did pretty well, although I expect Glasgow to get dinged the worst in Brian's UFR.  In fact, Cole may have been our best lineman on Saturday.  I think Nussmeier needs to rethink his offensive strategy with this team.  The offensive as a unit is simply too inconsistent (experience or talent?) to go on sustained 15 play drives against a team like Notre Dame.  In fact, our first drive of the game, that only went about 40 yards, took ten plays.  Another 10 play drive in the third quarter also went for roughly 40 yards.  A 10 play drive should extended further than 40 yards. Maybe the game plan was devised to purposefully protect the O-Line, but in any event it was clearly too conservative and didn't amount to less turnovers than a more aggressive game plan would likely have yielded.

Pure speculation from game

Pure speculation from game tape reveals that Gedeon seemed to have some shoulder trouble late in the game after a tackle.  Hopefully he's alright.

Wait... 9?

There are 9 such teams in 2014, compared to 5 in 2013?  Seems like 2014 is already breaking some trends.

For whatever reason, this team can consistently light up any kind of defense on even an average night.  We only have to play average defense (i.e. 100ish ranking) to win a game by double digits.  I think a Final Four appearance would be a surprise, but its all about matchups.  We are unlikely to play a top 75 offense in the first two rounds, and our third round game is likely against a team with a 104 defensive efficiency and nearly identical offensive efficiency rating.  These stats don't matter until we get to Wichita State/Louisville... which will require a lights out game from 3 for us to advance.

Sparks!

Sparks!

I'd go

If tickets fell into my lap, I'd go.  I have gone to EL for this game every year since 1999.  But this year seems different.  None of my buddies who are normally up for a trip to EL care to go, and I don't really care to make the drive either.  Of course the 70" LCD and kegerator newly installed in my basement makes the desire to go to Spartan Stadium nearly non-existant.  That Stadium really needs to be renovated beyond video boards.  Plus, staying home in Ann Arbor allows much quicker access to the after-party!

Edit: Also note that there is major road construction going on all around East Lansing, getting in and out is sure to be a nightmare.

Who wins?

Who wins, GRIII or Concordia?

Big Ten Season

Well, my post was clearly about football.  But if you want to bring basketball into the mix, I have season basketball tickets and from the WMU game onward, Crisler had an excellent attendance rate.  Once the team proved they were for real, sell-outs were common.  They are going to be even more common this year.

Also, at least adults with jobs and kids have a reason not to show up to Concordia - although that still doesn't entirely excuse no-shows.  The students live on campus and rarely have class at 7pm.  You can always find a 3 hour break twice a week in your studies.  Its a 5 minute bus ride to get to Crisler, or a 15-20 minute walk.  Some normal season ticket holders have a 45+ minute drive into Ann Arbor.

Simply put, there is no excuse for buying season tickets and then not showing up.  If you don't like the policy and want to hang out outside the stadium during games, don't buy tickets.  The most sensible approach involves selling season tickets to as many students who request them, and eliminating the right to buy tickets for those students who don't show up for at least 6/7 home football games or 80+% of basketball games.

As a student, I never missed a game or showed up late

If students want to throw a tantrum about increased cost (still way below normal ticket prices), then continue to reduce the number of student tickets available.  Non-students still show up in droves and on time.  Your job as a student with season football ticket is to go to games and cheer on your school, if you don't want to do that, then don't buy tickets.  That article is, frankly, ridiculous.

Bern's

Bern's was a great experience, and I will definitely go back - but Boca was outstanding in its own way.  I would highly recommend Boca if you haven't been there, in Soho.

Add yellow trim

Add yellow trim to the shoulders and you might be on to something.

84-59 Michigan

25 point win, 84-59

Good thing you didn't

49ers are going to cover the over by themselves.

2 ideas for placement of legends patch

Either put the legends patch on the back of the jersey above the player name (where the small "M" is now), or re-design the patch and incorporate the player reference into the numbers on the sleeves.  Put a circle around the sleeve numbers with the Legend player name in there or something.  The patch clutters the jersey too much.

My gripe - use the full scoreboard more

There's no need to display the stats ALL THE TIME.  During plays and during replays the full scoreboard should be used.  In between plays and at all other times, the stats can be shown.  Also, why aren't the stats just shown on the bottom.  Go 16:9 aspect ratio and use the full width of the screen for video, and put the stats under the video on the bottom.

Eventually, they should consider using the speaker area as more video space reserved solely for stats.  Put UM stats on one side of the big screen and Visitor stats on the other, use the full big board MOAR!!!!!!

I KNOW!

I have half a mind to go to my boss tomorrow and just tell him to overload me with work so that I can't concentrate on a minute of football for the next 9 days.

Always at least 20%

Always at least 20% unless they are really really late.  Remember, this is not a waittress, this is pizza being delivered directly to your door.  The $2 delivery charge helps constitute the driver's base salary.  But its not like the driver gets $10 dollars if he goes out to make 5 deliveries on one trip.  Its just another way the pizza place generates revenue.

Although clearly a money grab, these things are worth $32

I tailgate with a big group every home game and we pretty much go at it right up until about 11:45 or 3:15 as the case may be.  With these seat cushions already installed at my seat, I've never had to worry about encroachers or being "that guy" who has to tell half a row to move over.  I don't use them so much as a seat cushion as I do a seat reservation, they are also taller than most portable seat cushions and allow shorter individuals (like my wife) to see over the person in front better.

If another team's win means a Michigan championship

If another team's win means a Michigan championship... I will root for that team.  I don't care who it is.  This applies to all sports.

Quote

Had to login to comment on the OPs sig/quote.  Its "Hardaway cross 'em up" not "boss em up."

I made this mistake yesterday

I made this mistake yesterday, the OP linked to the OLD Big Ten Tournament tiebreaker rules.  The new rules for 2012 state that 2-0 and 1-0 are equivalent.  It'd be nice if Northwestern could win out (and Indiana beats MSU)... then we'd probably hold the tiebreaker since we would be the only team that did not lose to Northwestern (also assuming NU moves ahead of PU).

We're getting hot at the right time

no one has mentioned the fact that the NCAA generally gives more consideration to how teams finish down the stretch rather than who they beat in December.  If we can finish strong, including 2 wins in the BTT, we've got a great shot.

Lloyd threw transfer papers at a LOT of kids

including Chris Perry.

Same fine print appears in most contests like this

If the winner doesnt respond within one hour, they call the next potential winner.  I won a trip to the 2001 Citrus Bowl after the first 3 "winners" didn't pick up the call.  The fine print there was even more strict, as if you didn't pick up your phone after one call, you were eliminated.  I got a call at 4:30pm and had to find a person to go with and get all the documentation signed by 5pm or I would have forfeited the prize.  I had someone from work fax in their signature on the document, but I had to be at the sponsor's office within 30 mins.

It wound up being a great trip, hosted by Jamie Morris who did an outstanding job.

2 things

1) Premium message boards never said Vinopal would start.

2) Obi was listed ahead of Demens for Iowa.

Really?

Beating a top 15 team that has a top 2 defense in the big ten will have no bearing on whether we finish 4-2 or 1-5?  I realize that each game is its own unique battle, but you've gotta have some confidence if we beat Iowa.  Now, the TEAM can't expect to go 4-2 if it beats Iowa.  But i think its a reasonable expectation for a fan.

No

The general public is not allowed to enter the stadium on non-event days.  It is unlikely that the Stadium's openness will ever go back to the way it was pre-construction.  Too many security and liability issues.

I make noise on every defensive play

I make noise on every defensive play.  When I am in the student section I stand the entire game because that is proper etiquette in the student section.  While I wish all 100,000+ Michigan fans would stand the whole game and yell while M is on defense, I understand that its not going to happen.  As long as you make noise while Michigan is on defense (especially the big plays) I don't care whether you stand or not.

Back to the question at hand, the two people in question could have supported Michigan just as much by sitting down and making noise - as long as the noise was in the proper scope of the football game (i.e. not yelling during timeouts or using profanity profusely).  If they wanted to stand, they should have bought student tickets and had them validated.

Very good point

Every game is crucial.  If we go 8-4 with losses to MSU/Iowa/Wisconsin/OSU, I think we are headed in a great direction, we beat everyone we were supposed to beat and only lost to the teams that were legitimately better than us.  However, you and I both know that those losses will keep the negativity going with those who want Rodriguez gone.  They will say "Michigan hasn't beaten anyone yet."  I THINK if we beat Iowa, it means we are pretty good and therefore SHOULD (not will) beat PSU/Illini/Purdue.  However, the negative nancies will put even more pressure on RichRod to NOT lose those games and say we were out coached by a lesser team if we do lose any of those games after beating Iowa.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.  I just really wish we could all - you know - actually support this program and our coach.

I agree

The post was intended to be prognostication more than anything else.  I THINK an Iowa win means we are actually pretty good and will go at least 4-2 the rest of the way.  Could I be wrong?  Yes.  Could I be right?  Yes.  Could someone have said the same thing about Wisconsin in 2008?  Yes.  Its just an opinion of what I think the future holds and nothing more.

Interactions

Its disheartening to listen to people who give a significant amount of money to Michigan Athletics badmouth Rodriguez at every turn.  I've spoken to these kinds of people after every game, and have yet to hear anything positive from many of them (not all, got a lot of good feedback after the ND game).

But what if you beat a better team

But, if you beat a better team, then that is an positive indicator of your coaching ability.  I wasn't clear in my original post but - for the TEAM this game is just as important as any other game and the coaches and kids need to keep that in mind.  When you're a player, EVERY game is important, and losing any particular game can't negatively affect your performance for the next game.  But as a fan, as someone who has to deal with UM scrutiny every day, this would be a big win.  I won't be devastated with a loss, I'm still going to make the trip out to Penn State, but this would be a big win if we can pull it off.  And I have a feeling that 2 years from now, people will look back and point to this game (a big win over a top 15 team that is solid on both sides of the ball, coming off an emotional loss to Iowa) as the date that RR turned it all around.

If we lose - the chance for that kind of game doesn't pop up again till maybe OSU or next year's MSU game (maybe Wisconsin, but I think they're a bit overrated).

Like I said, its not an end all game for the season

I just think if we win, it will be a bigger win than people realize right away.  If we win does it mean that we will go 4-2?  No, but it makes 4-2 looks pretty manageable (considering we would only need to win 3/5).  If we lose is the season over?  No, we move on to the next game.  But make no bones about it, this would be a big win going into the bye week and going on the road to PSU at night.

This is the kind of person

This is the kind of person I'm talking about.  A win over Iowa will go a long way to eradicating this line of thought.  MSU is a good team this year, face it.  They beat the #11 and #18 teams in the nation already.  "Last year we did not beat one good team. and so far this year we are on the same path."  This is the line of thinking that a win over Iowa will help eliminate.  We're going into a bye week and a loss to Iowa, although expected to some degree (read: by Vegas), will further this negative line of thinking and extrapolate upon it for 2 weeks.  We can't let that happen, gotta go out and win this one.

Expectations

And it is because it is an expected loss that makes it so important.  We lose, no one cares, that's what was supposed to happen.  We win, we do something unexpected and that's what really needs to happen for the positive momentum train to get going.

Recipe?

I guess I don't post here enough to know what the recipe reference is in regards to.  But, I do think we will win on Saturday (I will not be devastated with a loss, I know its going to be an uphill battle) and I think that it will be looked at as a very big win 2 years from now.
