After Harbaugh's postgame…

After Harbaugh's postgame presser we might need to start adding this one to the mix after performances like today. (Someone with better skills than I can replace the background w/ a giant mustache)

This is seriously a bush…

This is seriously a bush league maneuver by ND. I mean, if it were just moving the band to Bolivia that would be a minor annoyance -- although relocation is apparently just standard operating procedure these days.

But not planning ~5 minutes for them to do a basic Entry/M Fanfare/Victors/Varsity pregame is a total trash move.

I'm curious when the powers that be @ ND let them know this was the case? And whether MMB was already working on a halftime show that they now have to scrap?

Yeah, I'm trying not to look

Yeah, I'm trying not to look too far ahead -- almost everywhere I've looked says TBD because the matchups aren't set.

BUT reading between the lines, it would be odd to have a ~3pm local West Coast start followed by a 8:30-9pm local East Coast start.

AND if you check some ticketing pages they're showing an expected ~6pm PST start for the West Regional on Saturday. I would 95% expect LA to get the later start on Saturday for time zone reasons.

Yeah this one's not missing

Yeah this one's not missing us, big system coming slowly across the pacific, dangerous potential for floods and mudslides in the areas that were hit by wildfire, but probably just a wet and windy day in DTLA. When they see them coming like this they can usually tell a week or so ahead it's gonna be gross.

This is exactly what I was

This is exactly what I was thinking. I'm one of those car/Uber dependent Angelenos and have never used the Metro here but I'm not far from 2 Expo stations in Culver and there's a station a block from Staples. This seems like the perfect time to take a train instead of driving.

I'll be there like

I'll be there like whoa.

Also, The LA Alumni Club sent out on FB today that they're hosting a pre-game "tailgate" at Tom's Urban @ LA Live -- right across the street from Staples. So for anyone on the fence about trying to come down and find a ticket there should be a solid Michigan-friendy backup spot to stay and watch if you get priced out.

Weather's supposed to be crap on Thursday though, so there's that.

Weather in LA this week is

Weather in LA this week is going to be unusually rainy Tues-Thurs with highs in the low 60's, so it should feel like springtime in Michigan. I know--I know: they play the games inside. But it won't be ideal tourist/sightseeing weather until Friday (/knocks on wood), so just keep them in the gym and focused on the task at hand.

I bit the bullet last night

I bit the bullet last night immediately after the win. I live near Culver/MidCity LA, so it's a quick straight shot to Staples Center. I'd kick myself if I missed out on this.

Grabbed a sheet for all 3 games for ~$390 all-in after fees -- about 20 rows up on the end. I figured they're only gonna go up once the rest of the teams get locked in today, so I jumped on it and have that Saturday ticket in hand for a little bonus/insurance.

Another suggestion: Include

Another suggestion: Include the team nicknames.

Possibly even an additional cell for who would win in a theoretical no-holds-barred mascot cage match. Sometimes that's a critical deciding factor on those coinflip games and I NEED THAT INFO.

Sacks on grounding penalties

They should also adjust D stats to give defenders a chance to get credit for a sack when the QB throws the ball away at the last second and gets called for intentional grounding. The result of the penalty is the same as a sack (spot foul, loss of down) but the defender rsponsible isn't getting credit for that sweet, sweet sack action.

I'm no expert but...

i'll bet the landing gear didn't collapse until it hit that ditch, so the nose would have already been clear. You can see two distinct sets of wheel ruts/skid marks all the way up to that point, so it's not like the belly of the plane was dragging along the ground the whole way.

He's also flawed...

He's also flawed in just pointing at the "long opponent kick returns" stat page, which shows Michigan has given up 5 returns of 30+ (1 of which was returned for 40-50 yards). The issue is that this is a raw number which will be somewhat dependent on number of returns, and there's a wide variation in sample size. I mean, evey team kicks off once per game (start of game or after halftime) but otherwise you only kickoff when you score. Michigan is in the top 10 of number of kickoffs (64) because we score a lot, giving more opportunities for opponent returns. On the flip side our oppnents have only kicked off to us 23 times (!).

Compare this with some of the other teams who haven't given up a raw number long returns and you'll see quite a few of them don't score much, or kick a lot of touchbacks. As others have pointed out, our field position rankings are elite. Ultimately, it seems like grasping at straws to find a weak raw stat. I'll gladly take a killer O who scores tons of TD's who also gives up a 35 yard return every 12th time we kick off.

Let's not forget...

Florida has played in 1 fewer game so far, so the fact that we've allowed 1 more First Down than they have in an extra 60 minutes is...uhhhh pretty good, you guys.

Love the name.

The only thing I can think of when I see his name is opponents better sine yo pitty on the runny kine.

Labor

Labor is always the biggest cost on any production. Yeah CGI is "cheap" because it's all ones and zeroes, but it usually takes a surprisingly large army of VFX people to actually make it happen, and each one typically makes a pretty nice little wage.

Have seen Laith countless

Have seen Laith countless times live around Ann Arbor and he played a friend's wedding a couple years ago, so I've definitely been following the season closely and voting to help a brother out. Was curious how long he'd stick around since his guitar chops are where his bread is buttered, but happy to see he's held his own vocally so far. He'll need lots of help as it becomes more of a social media/popularity contest down the stretch and the competition gets stiffer, but he could very well make top 4 or 5.

My favorite Laith story was being at Gracie's in 2005 the night the Michigan softball team was playing for the National Championship. We were half listening to the band and half watching the game. When Samantha Findlay hit the walk-off game winner to seal the deal Laith was in the middle of a guitar solo (might have been "Black Dog" or "Fat Bottomed GIrls" or Whipping Post,") and without missing a step he flowed into an extended riff based on The Victors, the crowd sang along for a chorus, then he slid right back to continuing a face-melting solo.

It was a most ripping victory.

Valid

Touche, but surely they can't keep us out of Orlando.

More details?

I've seen the tweet, but is there a more complete wording on the facilities restrictions? Seems like the wording of "at their own facilities OR at facilities regularly used for practice or competition" (emphasis mine) leaves a lot of gray area. Does that mean we can rent out the Rose Bowl for a camp since we've competed there pretty regularly over the years. Does this mean we can't team up with another University and co-sponsor a camp so that all coaches are then able to be "employed." As is the tweeted language still seems full of loopholes.

Oof, I just went with the NYC

Oof, I just went with the NYC number. I assume the upstaters don't have access to google. That is Pie Country, after all.

New Yorkers...

New Yorkers...8 million and still in a perpetual state of loneliness.

Yes,

Denzel is Robert's older brother.

To clarify:

Woop. Beaten to the punch. Hope the kid's ok.

Commercial break

Re: the "John Skipper is an idiot" segment.

I am not an advertising/media guru but it's pretty obvious to me why ESPN wouldn't go to a commercial break during a game that nobody is able to tune into. It's where their bread is buttered. They kinda have to wait until our game is actually on the air so that we can effectively Obey. Consume. Do not question authority.

Obligatory Ron Swanson reference

Yes.

Saw it last night and just...wow. It's incredibly kick-ass and all of the other things people say it is. Best pure action movie in a long time, and it's so much better knowing that it's mostly done with practical effects and real stunts instead of going the cg route. Hoping this will light a fire under things to get more recognition for stunt coordinators. Some of the things they do here are unreal.

Name drop coming...

Ha! Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) is awesome. I had a chance to meet and work with him for a few days this year. Within minutes of meeting he's showing me video on his phone of him taking BP and shagging flies with the Brewers at spring training, and telling stories of playing harmonica on stage alongside Bob Dylan and Wilco. Harbaugh would be a fan. Coolest, friendliest guy ever.

Roy Manning factor

This was all part of a Harbaugh-devised plan to send Roy to infiltrate Wazzu and flip this kid. I like.

I'm pretty sure the Borges

I'm pretty sure the Borges playbook is bound in human flesh and contains warnings about the plays sucking your soul dry.

Shhhh

Shhhh, with that attitude we're never gonna convince the NCAA to make deep south teams travel north to compete in the Wolverine Bowl.

Nope.

My sources say Men's Wearhouse.

Let the paddlin' commence.

Holograms and Lasers

If we can bring Biggie and Tupac back to life, then we can fix the first down fiasco.

Sure, it's only a "wifi test."

I'd be surprised if the Dave Brandon's Superlaser isn't already fully operational. Next thing you know it's goodbye Alderaan.

Upvote.

Upvote.

I hope we are recruiting him

I hope we are recruiting him hard because, until we find a TE recruit who is 7'3" and furry, this will be our best opportunity to have a dedicated Michigan student cheering section dressed fully in Chewbacca costumes.

Well then YOU ain't getting

Well then YOU ain't getting no coke.

I'm guessing it's just a boo

I'm guessing it's just a boo boo.

I need to get to Blimpy soon

I haven't been to Crazy Jim's in many moons, although I have been living in Ann Arbor for over a decade. Now it is closing and I am moving to L.A. Last week I was able to partake of the gloriousness of a few west coast burgers: Umami's Truffle Burger; a doubIe-double animal style from In-N-Out; a bloody good burger from Ercole's near Manhattan Beach.

Just drove by Blimpy a few minutes ago and the line was out the door. I must revisit before the leaving happens, otherwise I won't be able to forgive myself.

This whole thing is a bigger

This whole thing is a bigger buzzkill than Buzz Killington.

Right

Two things that tells me: 1) Kid has improv skeels/"high b-ball IQ". 2) He was hustling back on defense.

That said, he may have turned the ball over leading to the fast break...edited highlight reels are highly edited. It was still fun to see.

We really must have ALL of

We really must have ALL of the Jalens. It's science.

No, I know

I know it's never planned, I just mean I've seen it plenty of times in a typical dead ball, ref-hands-you-the-ball-you-can't-find-anyone-open-and-hey-look-this-dude-has-his-back-to-me-commence-lollerskates!! situation, just never after a made basket. That said, I kinda don't watch basketball very obsessively.

at 0:50

The inbound to himself off the opposing player's back. I've seen that on a set play, but I've never seen someone do that on the fly after a made basket. I be like dang.

Do want.
