The actual point of the 2nd amendment was that the people would be just as armed as the military, in the event of tyranny. It even says this in the amendment itself, that it's necessary to the security of a free state.
But the 2nd amendment isn't even remotely what's being discussed here. We've tossed out the constitution long before we've even entered this conversation. So I really wasn't even thinking of it when I made my original comment.
I suppose from my perspective I don't see the purpose of having a discussion/debate or finding "solutions" to an issue if someone doesn't even understand what it is that they're proposing.
Banning semi automatic weapons? Really? Does that sort of suggestion even deserve a discussion?
