You wouldn't think so, since Knox was named scout team defensive player of the week during both week 5 and week 10 of his freshman year -- a year in which he ostensibly redshirted for medical reasons. If they are claiming something else, I have no idea what the hell it could be.
It seems like a straightforward case, but the early optimism out of EL and the overall inability of the NCAA to do anything competently makes me think it's closer to 50/50.
Their DL should still be solid. On one side they'll likely start 4th year Demetrius Cooper, who's been generating buzz for a while but was kind of trapped behind Calhoun's 8 year career. Damon Knox will probably get a 6th year, since pretending everyone has an incapacitating injury during any redshirt year is now accepted practice. McDowell is back and remains a good player and a bad college-picker. The other DE is a bit of a mystery. 5th year Evan Jones seems to be the front runner, but someone like Josh King could steal that job away. Regardless, a 5th year bastard in Dantonio's system won't be too terrible if it turns out Jones is the best they've got.
But between this and graduation, their depth is pretty well shot. They have zero junior or senior reserves on the DL. If Knox doesn't get a 6th year or if a starter gets injured, it'll be weird guy time, and pronto.
What are the specific metrics that prevent M from being in the top 15 or so? My guess is acceptance rate and endowment/spending per student. Has anyone here really dug into the USNWR formula?
Not a perfect match, but there's also Hidden Valley Club apartments which are near the south state street commuter lot. It's about 2 miles from there to central campus. The 36 bus, which generally runs every 10-15 mins, picks up at that lot and goes directly to central campus. They definitely have 1BR, not sure about studios. Also, they aren't very fancy.
Okay, so you hold the popular and ethical high ground, own the fricking pulpit, and your best strategy is to sue? This is like pulling the goalie when you are ahead.
He's also the teammate of future 4 or 5* Brian "Tugs" Bowen, a 6-7 wing in the c/o 2017. Bowen is a cousin of Jason Richardson, so he's also a presumed MSU lean, unfortunately.
Acceptance rates seem to have limited meaning re: desirability until you reach the elite schools. Last year, Central Michigan's acceptance rate was actually 6 percentage points lower than MSU's.
You've brought him up a number of times. Were there indications that he was ever a realistic option for Michigan? Or that he'll attend college in the U.S. at all? I don't follow bball recruiting too closely.
If I'm not mistaken, UM under Beilein has has as many early entrants to the NBA as Izzo has had in roughly 20 years at MSU. Izzo has made himself a legend by turning 3-stars and 5-stars into 4-stars.
If you're a UM fan after that game, I don't know, have patience and hope. Enjoy the last month and a half or so of Trey Burke, he's a hell of a player. Maybe you guys can beat MSU by 20+ in Ann Arbor. Maybe you don't choke away your Big Ten title shot this year. Maybe after the 2014 season, if you've won three straight in the rivalry to claw Beilein up to .500, and a Big Ten Title or two, maybe an Elite Eight, or a Final Four (or a Sweet Sixteen), we can revisit the subject. Maybe. But man, not today.
In the nearly 20 years Izzo has been at MSU, he's had, I think, only 4 "true" early entrants: Richardson, Randolph, Taylor, and Brown. Beilein's had that many in the last four years.
I should have clarified. That's just the "minimum" qualification. Obviously you get the best candidate you can. The two elephants on campus are medicine and athletics. I'm curious if the new prez -- especially since he was at Berkeley -- favors putting a little financial distance between the medical enterprise and the rest of the U.
I took a class with the Dude last semester. He asked us to research and suggest some names for the next prez, and he said he'd pass along the good ones. Interested to see who came out on top.
Maybe it is because Devin Gardner has a 5 yard head start on the "Center randomly moonshots the ball 20 yards toward his own endzone" play Michigan ran a few times this year.
I'd consider taking out of the OP your opinions/assumptions/rationale (about which I agree with you) in order to decrease sampling bias. Neat idea, though.
This reeks of a familiar strawman made by other teams' fans. Who is seriously still unaware that UM has underperformed lately? Did you know that M has only won one MNC in the last 50 years? AMAZING. I am really bummed about this "reality check," as it totally tempers my "Why Fitz Will Win the Heisman" diary.

Those stats are excellent. If he had hit those numbers at the 2016 MI HS D1 finals, Paye would have finished roughly:
For reference, KJ Hamler won the D2 100m with a 10.99, and Donovan Peoples-Jones won the Detroit PSL championship with a 10.93. Paye's a dude.

Of all the plans that will succeed until 8:45am, this one's the best.

Central Michigan, my other alma mater.

Scar is surely behind this.
or grad school. Good luck.
Now you shit in a hole that's ABOVE the ground. We've really come a long way.
People appreciate that they are beating the most disliked teams.

If my name was Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, I'd opt to go by something like "reanimator" too...
I use the internet solely for MGoBlog, so I get ads about canine anal glands and scatterplots.

This paragraph is the best:
Well now...
Valentine/Payne/Costello corral a soul-crushing proportion of the games's available rebounds, giving MSU the extra possessions it needs to win.
MSU 78, UM 69
Chuck Norris roundhoused Canada and caused the polar vortex.
Every time I see it I can't help but think of the song "Coco Jamboo" from the 90s.

But we're undefeated since Nussed God was hired.

I think the general rule is:
so, this doesn't seem out of line.

Mercy. Creighton is 20 for 32 from deep against Nova. Up by 35. OK, back to cheering against OSU.

no! no! they aren't!
He's been angry since the day he learned that it's physically impossible for monkeys to fly out of asses.
Luckily for him, he was in the same grade as Jeff Penis.

Yes. For some reason it makes me doubt his ability to execute under pressure.
Go back and watch the Green carry again
