According to the Freep, so take it for what it's worth.
Don't blame me. I vote for Kodos.
Well I'm a Kang supporter!

Interesting point, the Board of Regents had their meeting earlier this month in New York City. Very well could have been to have the final deliberation in private and out of the spotlight in Ann Arbor.......or was it to meet with a candidate in NYC?
Come on....I'm trying to provoke someone into saying Bollinger!
Usually the regents hold one "Meeting" in a city with a high volume of alumni for $$ purposes. They do not discuss much at this meeting; it's really more for fundraising.
I'm not sure I'd want Bollinger. Yeah, he invited the students to his house after the '97 PSU game. But he was the Nick Saban of university presidents, always looking for another job.
He went after two jobs, Columbia (which is his alma mater) and Harvard (which is Harvard). I have a hard time blaming him for either.
And will continue to be an elite job. This is Michigan...fergodsake /Hoke'd
My fellow Americans. As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball; but tonight I say, we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
This one (the alien):
or this one (theExecutioner):
Please be a respectable educator that will lead this great university and....
...Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...<fingers crossed eyes closed>
I would be careful what you wish for. A president who hates Brandon might simply hate athletics, like Duderstadt did.
Duderstadt gave all of us Michigan engineering graduates who love U-M sports a bad name.
Media reports have been known to negatively impact coaching searches, especially when you're courting candidates who are already employed in a similar capacity.
He was doing his job. The money spent on those planes was a drop in the bucket when compared to the salaries involved. Having a hire fall through because of a meeting getting leaked is a big deal, potentially much more expensive. Maybe it wasn't completely necessary, but it wasn't frivolous either. You might give Brandon a little credit for learning from the history of coaching searches.
You would prefer to criticize him for flying first class. That comes off as extremely petty and lacking in perspective. I guarantee that hiring a president who thinks that way would be very bad for Michigan sports fans. Trying to avoid conflicts is one thing (such as the sign at Crisler). A focus on cutting expenses by nickel and diming the AD is quite another.
You don't have to hate athletics to hate Brandon. I love athletics.
I like my odds.
.Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...Please be one of the candidates that doesn't like David Brandon...<fingers crossed eyes closed>
I'd happily take Brandon on that Board of Regents, over most of the current occupants...
I accept! Put Brandon back on the Regents (have to be appointed somehow, couldn't get voted back) and out of his current office! Yes! Thanks!
Vote for Pedro!
Yeah, when a new president comes in, the ticking clock starts for old DB...I would bet my third born that DB is gone in before 2017 one way or the other.
I agree, but even sooner. Even under a President that likes him, DB would never stay till 2017. I am thinking DB will not see 2015. To paraphrase Nema above....he does not belong anywhere near a public university.
i wasn't going to tell you guys, but it's me.
I had heard they had honed in on someone but weren't anywhere near closing the deal. Something must have changed in the last week. Dying to see.
I really hope its me........
It is true what they say, men are from Omicron Persei 7 and women are from Omicron Persei 9
100% chance it's revealed and we all say "Who?...Oh ok..."
You'd have to be a serious higher ed nerd/professor/administrator to not have to immediately scramble to google to figure out details beyond whatever post the person currently holds.
I hope to be said nerd and scramble to google immediately.
Anyone dare to throw down some serious names (Beyond cartoon characters and Brandon)? I'm putting my money on one of three:
a) My hopeful: Earl Lewis, President of Mellon Foundation, prior Provost at Emory
b) My most likely: Phyllis Chin from Illinois
c) My darkhorse: Lou Anna Simon from State
You could add College of Engineering Dean David Munson.
From what I hear it's most likely him or Phyllis Wise (Not Chin), who is Chancellor of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. She has her phD from Michigan and it would be a promotion because she would be president of the whole system as opposed to one campus, plus Michigan is a more prestigous gig than Illinois.
Then again, who knows?
Weird autocorrect. Meant Phyllis Wise of Illinois.
I heard early on Phyllis Wise was a candidate.
I personally think Munson would only be in if they really struck out on a lot of other candidates. If they were eyeballing Munson either from the get-go or at some point after some others said no, I think they would have been more inclusive of students and staff on the search committee. The fact that it was so secretive and such a closed group leads me to believe that their intent from the start was another sitting President who didn't want it known they were a candidate. Dean Munson is a great guy, very impressive guy and in my and many others opinion would be a great President. Again, I feel like it doesn't make sense because of how secretive the search was.
Never gonna happen (Prez). I feel very much like Brian Cook right now; "There is a zero point zero chance..." lol.
The regents have been very quiet, so it's really all speculation, but there is a significant (nonzero) chance they decide to promote from within, and if they do, it seems like Munson is the guy.
I saw Dean Munson just this morning. He was coming into Lurie from the parking lot at 10:30am ... a little late to be showing up to work, unless you had special meetings on Central Campus during the morning?
Brandon - President
Hoke - AD
Borges - HC
Recipe for success.
Yes, all departments but the business school and general studies would be shut down.
Well, my night just turned into a FlightAware viewing party.
I'm with you Bando. Feels like a few weeks ago with the whole Borges/Who Will Replace?/Nussmeier thing except this won't get a fraction of the coverage and likely won't get the literal minute by minute leaks that led to the disclosure mere hours after the position opened.
Probably have to wait until the morning although for the Board of Regents to be meeting, its done, this is just to formalize so it could leak. Regents decide everything before the meetings actually happen so whomever it is, its done.
I mean, I meant it as more of a joke, so...
The Dude's keeping an eye on you.
I was a student in the Dude era and had to "go before the Dude" for something a group I was involved with did. Ended peacefully but I've seen that look.
I took a class with the Dude last semester. He asked us to research and suggest some names for the next prez, and he said he'd pass along the good ones. Interested to see who came out on top.
What kind of insecure, scared, desperate-for-attention university holds a press conference for a new president?
"The utter meaninglessness[of this] reminded me of an old episode of the sitcom M*A*S*H in which a dimwitted general sternly chastised reporters at a briefing for daring to seek information, applying the classic conundrum of “This is a press conference! The last thing I want to do is answer a lot of questions!”
Yeah, but would Hoke hire him?
He's just hoping Hoke doesn't fire him.
No idea on her current status but I'm rooting for Teresa Sullivan. She was provost during my undergraduate days. Think she became president of U. of Virginia.
Sullivan is still at UVA and I liked her very much too and she was the first name that came to my mind last year. Its possible but there are two prevailing theories on why it won't be (a) she only left about three years ago, will she really want to make another move that quickly, particularly to a school of equal academic standing (b) she was supposedly being groomed to take over for Mary Sue and bailed on us and there are still a lot of high ups who were pissed off about that and wouldn't take her back.
Well considering she was already "fired" at UVA and then rehired a few days later, and would like make more money at a more prestigious school if she went to UM, I'd say if offered it would be hard for her to say no
I'm not sure I would call Michigan "more prestigious" than UVA. The two have pretty similar reputations.
the UM is a far bigger and more powerful one.
Tell that to a UVA grad! There is no more insufferable alumni base in the country.
UVA is a great school. But, from top to bottom, it does not compare. This is Michigan Fergodsakes!
Plus she pissed of a lot of powerful people and got (briefly) fired at UVA which isn't a great sign. It's entirely unclear if that is even partially her fault but it has to be a red flag
I think the consensus is that Sullivan came out of that mess smelling like a rose. Insofar as that standoff was a PR war between Sullivan and the UVa board, Sullivan won. it actually might have helped her stock.
John Simon, Virginia Provost might be the choice. Apparently he showed a lot of leadership during the whole Sullivan dillema.
I believe there was a series of meetings on campus in the fall with students and staff alike about what was needed in the next President, or rather, the qualities that they would like to see. To that end, it will be interesting to see if the Board Of Regents took the results to heart in the next hire - very curious as to who it will be actually.
MLive implies that it might be about Black Student Union demands:
With all due respect to the BSU, I don't think their (kinda pompous even if well-intentioned) demands would be met with a Regents meeting. Regents are much above that and the BSU already has a meeting with the Provost tomorrow, as the article points out.
I'd be surprised to see the meeting about the BSU, but it would be encouraging to see the Regents taking that issue so seriously.
of Happy's Pizza anyway?
A big decision that will have obvious repercussions on the football program. Interested to say the least - and surprised that this doesn't have more attention on the boards.
it's gonna be CWeb.
and once again he's gonna shock the world.
Knows the school.
Acts like he's pretty smart.
Probably still local.
Bet no one would mess with us with him at the helm.
Martha Pollack as new President
