With a minute and a half to go in the first half, Nebraska is up 34-21. Man are they offensively challenged. It's on BTN if you'd like to enjoy
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
You have to think that a loss here pretty much eliminates OSU from big ten title contention
The UK office >> The US office
I'm enjoying it.
These threads almost always end badly. Instead of saying anything about Ohio being in trouble, you should say Ohio Nebraska open thread or something.
If he jinxed it, I may cry
Like a challenge for a diary article.
OSU will still win this game.
This anti-jinx works, and people downvote it. That's just rude.
ixnay on the inxjay
But that tight road win at Nebraska looks a little better now. Nebraska is going to give some teams a scare this year. They are not terrible anymore. Even though they are winless in the B1G so far, I think Nebraska looks to be in the same class with Purdue, Illinois, and maybe even Indiana.
I'd wager Ohio wins this game. If they do not...Umm, they're in serious trouble; not they're not in a bit of trouble anyway as they've ben exploited a bit. Serious trouble = they aren't a NCAA tournament team. Drastic? Maybe, but their struggles on offense are in danger of making them an average team and plenty of average teams are not Dancing in March.
*Edit: I know this team is 99% going to make the tournament. I guess I'm saying that if they can't beat Nebraska (again), albeit a better Nebraska than we've ever seen, then the road ahead for them may look very grim. Their OOC schedule was pretty weak, beating a not very good Marquette and Maryland. That's it; and now it's Big Ten time, it's only going to get harder.
to see how this game shakes out. Nebraska has seemingly gotten to the basket at will. Ohio has seen a clear lack of actual offense, I.e. the late run was off of ad lib foul taking.
Della Valle tried to Stauskas and failed miserably.
I cannot STAND him. So glad he did not become a wolverine.
IIRC we were between Della Valle and Caris and JB chose well
Down by 9 at half. Big deal. You will probably eat your words after this game now.
Bucks going to have to fight to finish 9-9 in the conference
Seems to me even with a loss tonight, which is not a foregone conclusion by any stretch of the imagination, 10/11 wins still quite possible, if not likely. They are not a top ten team, to be sure, but neither do they look like a .500 B10 team.
Ohio not as good as people think. They might come back, but those two things are true. I think Ohio not quite in the top flight of the B10. In fact, if you think that MSU/Iowa are that group now, with us and Wiscy next, Ohio might be in the third tier.
I think I enjoy seeing ohio lose more than I should, but man do I get into watching them get smoked. I swear, I don't think any of the Ohio players like each other. It's well documented on BTN that they don't like Craft.
I hope they crash and burn this year because the incoming recruiting class is back to typical Matta standards. Now MSU on the other hand is probably in a bit of a fix next year.
Even though jinxes don't exist, I fully expect Ohio State to get back in this game.
It will be hilarious to watch everyone blame this on OP.
I really don't believe in jinxes, but I still think these types of threads are dumb. The OP just looks stupid if the other team comes back. Nothing annoys me more than fans laughing at a team before the game is over.
osu can't score in the paint and their tough D is getting killed in the paint. I expect to see quite a bit of 1-3-1 when we play them. I think Braska will hold on and get a big W.
Well I just turned this game on and it's a 5 point game with 19:00 to play and Craft is on his way to the line. So much for the smoking.
2 point lead is all now?
This is a pretty close game for a blowout.
Enough time for the Buckeyes although I really wish they lose any and all games.
It is in
Since you posted this, Nebraska has been getting smoked.
Two point game now.
Way to go, OP!
MSU and Iowa haven't done anything in the big ten that we haven't done. Until we get knocked off, we're in the top tier of the big ten.
Nebraska does not value the ball.
Only 1 TO (so far) though...so hey...productive.
Nice Points to Turnover ratio.
Ohio is getting away with all types of contact.
That was about the worst fastbreak sequence ever.
The one thing that sort of stands out so far is Nebraska's 56.89% effective FG percentage, which sort of dwarfs 42.19% from Ohio State on the same metric. If Nebraska would try to mitigate the opportunities that the Buckeyes are getting at the charity stripe, it might not be quit as close right now. I would quote rebounding stats, but so far, no one here seems to believe much in second chance shots.
for awhile then we backed off. I think that is when we went after La Vert. Boy, I like the way that turned out.
I think it was Albrecht who committed then. Also, it's LeVert, not LaVert.
The spread was Ohio State -8
Prediction: OSU still covers that spread.
nebraska is so butt
16-2 run by osu since you posted this. you dumbass
Needs to change the title to Choking instead of smoking!!! What a joke
Nebraska has scored 9 points in the first ten minutes of this half. Just terrible.
"smoking" is what Creighton is doing to #4 Villanova. 84-50 Creighton, 9 minutes left. Game is at nova, btw.
beat me to it!
Like, "subs" crazy. Creighton is only 50% from 2, but that's ok, because they are 20-32 (!) from 3. Jeebus.
Creighton's Ethan Wragge has 27 points, on 9-13 shooting, with no free throws. So he has 9 3's. Sometimes when you're on...
You're really fucking on?
Creighton is going the full "Loyala Marymount circa 1990" on Villanova. 21 three and counting. As a UM fan who remembers that tourney game--and as a Villanova alum--I'm none too pleased about any of this.
I hate you
Creighton is smoking Nova by 30+
Temple alum. I feel terrible about that.
-- Villanova alum
P.S. Just kidding, of course.
P.P.S. Glad that you made it out of North Philly alive.
I'm just happy Nebraska has a new gym. That old court was an eyesore for the league.
Mercy. Creighton is 20 for 32 from deep against Nova. Up by 35. OK, back to cheering against OSU.
Nebraska is choking. They keep missing all those open 3's they made against us.
Don't you know you don't talk about the no-hitter until the final out is safely in the bag?
*Edit: OK, you're off the hook.
Really...both teams are not that good.
Must you wear a suit to the game? Anyway, Nebraska leads by 1.
for turnovers? I think Nebraska has a shot at it.
There has been a lot of really bad basketball from both teams this half.
The old Manny Harris elbow play is never a flagrant for Ohio.
I'm still bitter about that Purdue game.
Do it for Luke.
In all seriousness, regardless of the result, watching Ohio struggle against Nebraska is always, always, always joyful.
This is smoking
In any event, I feel a lot better about our game in Lincoln. It seems to be a tough place to play. A 3-0 road start without traveling to PSU or NW is impressive.
There really aren't any easy BIG away games. Some are more difficult than others but PSU has almost won in Happy Valley.
Game not over but closer.
They just might do this.
I hate fucking osu
Nebraska by 4.
Good. OSU is starting to falter just as we're starting to pick up speed. I like this trend.
Hope it continues when the team comes to Columbus.
haven't read thru comments but do Husker fans storm court if they win???
If I were there and this was our program's first win over a flagship program after first joining a conference, yes.
I agree. Just listening to the crowd I think they will.
Fuck you Aaron
That offensive foul on Craft was like porn.
Ha, and now Nebraska gets the 50-50 charge/block call at the end of the game!
Tough call on Craft there, but that's what you get for thinking you're Chris Paul in the last two minutes of every game.
Craft has more TOs than assists, but they just cannot stop talking how great he is. I've never seen a more overhyped player.
GO CORN GO
Cue the handwritten "you're a baller" note.
Petway or whatever with another tear drop layup off the glass! Awesome!
Petteway is the real deal. That guy is tough to keep out of the lane.
Ohio State is playing terribly. This game is over.
Shannon Scott is the most worthless basketball player
Isnt Scott the recruit they chose over Burke?
Didnt recruit Burke because they had both Craft and yes Scott
Shannon Scott was a 4 star top 10 PG in the same class as Trey Burke. Ohio State never really even considered Burke.
He does play great defense.
Buckeyes are in trouble. How is that over and back the ball was slapped by the Buckeyes.
Hasn't played any defense the last 4 games
they beat Nebraska by 30 something points earlier in the year and now they are about to lose. Talk about regression.
I think we can expect a court storm soon. Nebraska had lost 5 straight before today. Ohio STate was supposed to be good
This is the worst i've seen OSU play sice Mattas been there
Just no scoring threats. Craft seems like he's alone out there, and he's not exactly a lights out shooter.
I got something in my eye.
You gotta give credit to Nebraska; when OSU came out for the 2nd half like they did, I figured they would roll over and die.
How do you beat a team by 31 and then lose to them two weeks later?
That road is a mofo in the B1G.
despite this performance, I wouldn't expect the buckeyes to play this badly against us. Would be nice though.
Fun! They have nothing in terms of a go-to scorer. Some absolutely awful three chances hoisted tonight. And, I now feel much less bad about Petteway smoking us in the second half. He's pretty damn good.
Della Valle mean-mugging...which for him, doesn't take much.
Lulz fudge Ohio! They are struuuuugling!
nebraska doesn't pull a notre dame here
I always enjoy watching OSU lose, but this also makes me feel good about our win in Lincoln.
Now they have lost 4 straight. No way can the third best team in the country lose 4 straight, even if they were playing numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5.
That tells you all you need to know about the polls.
1) Our at NU is looking more impressive.
2) Ohio losing 4 in a row is beautiful and obviously, 2014!
4 in a row. Ohio blows.
Buckeye schadenfreude can be found here:
Please and thank you.
Christ, some are saying bench Craft.
A bullet not getting Della Valle.
Look at two other guys in that class who were fliers: Caris LeVert and Spike Albrecht. Beilein made them both into guys completely capable of starting in the Big Ten. (And do you remember how pissed a lot of people were that we 'wasted' a scholarship on Spike?)
We might have to start giving Beilein credit for a similar type of Midas touch that Dantonio and Narduzzi have in EL. After a while it's apparent that they can just flat out develop players like few others in the country can. Not sure if Matta has the same rep
lining up for the court storm
NEB fans getting ready to storm after beating the #15 team.
This is ridiculous. You've lost the game OSU. Stop fouling now.
Put a fork in Ohio. Now can we get a few Sparty loses?
2014 is so good to meeeeeee
a four team race.
Not judging nebraska cuz this could be their biggest win ever (maybe?) but rushing the court against an ohio state team that has lossed 4 in a row and is 2-4 in big ten? questionable.
(quietly reverses downvote)
This is great.
Especially these morons trying to talk to me about a loss to charlotte. I'll take a worthless loss early on like that over FOUR straight conference losses, and two to unranked team every day.
Nebraska has lost 15 straight to unranked teams....until now
Sensational scenes. Great win for NEbraska.
when ohio loses in any sport - especially when they get upset by a bad team
Yeah! Rush the court for beating an 0-5 Big Ten team!
JK...I love it. Fuck Ohio. Clearly the most overrated team in all of basketball this year.
for a long time, 0-5 in the b1g this year and beat a ranked team on the road. I think court stormings happen too often but this one is okay by me.
Good for Nebraska. They needed this tonight, and I could not be happier that the team they knocked off was OSU.
2014 continues to smile upon Michigan. Here's to Stauskas and Co. taking OSU to the woodshed, in their own arena, in a few weeks.
are nothing to snort at, in light of where those two teams stand today. Every road win in this conference is big. Now, time to keep the Hawkeyes from picking up one Wednesday!
OK, I kid, but seriously, you're a bunch of pagans.
The funny thing is that Nebraska didn't even play well. They were 2-13 from three and had 17 turnovers to only 6 assists.
OSU was a paper tiger during their 15-0 run, but this is just getting silly. They're clearly out of the running for the conference title, and this just makes it a bit easier for UM. Also, Nebraska's a pretty frisky team - beat OSU, stuck with UM and Iowa. Really only "bad" loss was @ OSU. Even @Purdue doesn't look horrible.
