I attended the Lincoln-Way East vs. Kenwood Academy (East won 52-12) game at Gately Stadium in Chicago's Southside and report the following:
WR I'Marion Stewart: I had him for 5 receptions, 115 yards, 1 TD (85 yard TD reception when score was 38-6 East). Stewart looked very fluid running routes and displayed sure hands. Had a couple nice catches to extend drives early in the game. KA's QB was heavily pressured from LWE's DL (East always has one of the top defenses in IL) and had little time to throw all game long. Stewart also played CB on defense until the game was out of reach.
Also of note: One time UM Recruit and current Miami (YTM) commit DE Marquise Lightfoot was injured on the second series of the game and did not return to action. He stayed on the sidelines with a boot on his foot.
I live less than a mile from Lincoln-Way East and have seen this kid play several times. I know this will sound crazy, but if one were to combine JG and Denard, this kid would be the result...outstanding ball skills, body control, burst, top-end speed, and balance. AJ is absolutely electric with the ball in his hands, and he has done it against pretty good competition (LWE won the 2017 8A state title and lost in the state semis in 2018). He ran a 10.73 100m at the state track meet yesterday, which was good for 4th place (I think Denard was @ 10.65 his senior year, IIRC).
Allen Trieu hit the nail on the head with his eval...if AJ stays healthy in 2019, he could very well wind up a 5*. His injuries haven't been of the season ending variety, but mostly nagging lower body issues that have impacted his speed and burst.
...they didn't get the munchies and crave macaroni and cheese, otherwise they could have been hit with destruction of property and theft as well. On the other hand, had that happened, this board would have been a much happier place today...
You can buy all-sessions tickets, but they are not cheap. When I bought mine about two weeks ago, lower-bowl, sideline tickets were minimum $1500 per seat. Good luck and Go Blue!
That don't bother me at all.
Playin' Solitaire till dawn,
With a deck of 51.
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo,
Now don't tell me, I've nothin' to do...
...I fully expected the uniforms to be Apple Bottom jeans, boots with the fur, baggy sweat pants, and the Reeboks with the straps. After I saw the real things, I kinda wish they had been. Hideous.
... then the D shifts, and the receiver runs a slant while the QB throws a hitch, it's a pick six and it seals the game for the opponent. I seem to remember something like that happening once. I have no issue whatsoever with the coaching staff taking that decision away from any QB in a game that is expected to be a low-scoring, grindfest.
...Jon prefers coaching in the NFL as opposed to college, in part because he did not particularly enjoy the recruiting aspect of the collegiate game. Granted, that was when Michigan was looking for a secondary coach just after Hoke was hired. I do not have any quotes or links, but it was reported on ESPN radio here in Chicago (One of the Bears beat reporters asked him about it).
I am annoyed by the headline on ESPN, though. It reads that he was "given" the award. I would bet signficant monies that, if you spoke with the people whose lives Patrick touched, they would emphatically say that he EARNED the award. Five years of selfless actions were the real "gift." Thank you, Patrick, for reinforcing why I am proud to be a Wolverine!
To clarify, my mini-rant was not aimed toward the OP, just at the person who penned the title of the ESPN article. It's a pet peeve, and I am seeking help for it.
Just tell the students that the game times are actually 11:40 a.m. or 3:10 p.m. Oh, you don't think that will work? I'd say it probably would have about as good a chance at success as the HAIL idea has.
...in America should show this video to their teams before every season. It can happen, it does happen, and if players screw up, it will happen. So many high school kids have ruined their lives because they lose control of situations and/or think they are untouchable. Many players are told they are the greatest and that only helps cultivate the untouchable feeling. The kid did get what he deserves, bottom line. And because of that, I'm not sad for him, I'm sad for the victim. Nevertheless, it's still a shame when any kid his age ruins their future like this.
They are just rebuilding. Still. Or is it again? Whatever.
Seriously though, several players in that Astros lineup should still be at AA of AAA, but you still have to repect any player who accomplishes something that has only happened 22 (or 23) times in the history of baseball. Cain comes off as a pretty humble guy, and he has been very solid for several years now (only 2 games over .500, but a 3.33 career ERA over 216 starts). Good for him, it's just never easy to watch it happen to your favorite team.
...in thinking the zone was generous. I have been a die-hard Astros fan since the day they signed Nolan Ryan, so I thought maybe my bias took over and I wasn't being objective.

Someone needs to introduce Coach Harbaugh to Life360 before it’s too late.
It’s not too late, is it?
Please tell me it’s not too late….

I read that the NCAA is on the lookout for over-stretching.
