2024 Commits Week 2 Highlights

Submitted by Hanlon's Razor on August 27th, 2023 at 1:17 PM

I couldn't find a single source so compiled stats on select commits:

Jaydin Davis completed 22-of-31 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns against the # 4 team in NC. Jaydin has 10 passing TDs in two weeks.

Jordan Marshall had 4 carries for 102 yards, 1TD 2 receptions 13 yards 1 TD in a 57-0 win. Didn't find any info on why the limited carries, but the score hopefully explains it.

There are you tube clips of Gorman/Kaapana's second game. For the season he has 16 carries for 263 yards/16.4 YPC-4 TDs. I know he had another fairly long TD run.

In the first two games: 49 passing attempts vs 57 rushes...563 passing yards vs 593 rushing yards. Your negativity schtick gets really, really wearisome. The young man is fast, sets up his blockers very well, runs hard, cuts decisively and finishes runs well. He's a 17 year old HS kid.

Negativity schtick? Didn't know "hard to get a read on him" is blatantly negative. Kaapana has 16 carries in 2 games as OP mentioned. I watched the entire first half yesterday and he ran the ball a few times. From my viewing, Gorman was extremely pass heavy and Kaapana only got a few carries against essentially empty boxes. These are all facts. I'm sorry that my analysis of what I've seen from him doesn't match up with yours. I'm just worried that how he is deployed my Gorman and his skillset doesn't match up with what Michigan needs from their RBs

*Jadyn Davis. Might as well at least make an attempt to spell our 5* QB commit's name correctly, since it really isn't that difficult and we couldn't do it with others (Rudock is not a Ruddock, Aidan is not Aiden, Dickinson is not Dickenson, among countless others).

It's extremely lazy to misspell a simple name like Jadyn so badly (wrong 3rd letter, wrong 4th letter, no I in the name, wrong 5th letter, nonexistent 6th letter...), regardless of it being such a prominent name like our incoming 5* QB to boot.

Being so flippant in doubling down on this unnecessary glaring error by offering to fellate yourself is not only eerily creepy - regardless of distasteful sarcasm - but is exactly the kind of casual dismissal of even basic posting etiquette that led to the off-putting plethora of misspellings littering this board. Do better.

I'm doing very well, thanks. I still fail to understand how you fellating yourself is a joke. Crass and not seeing the humor you purport, as opposed to taking the obvious L. Interesting to see this strategy deployed as opposed to taking the 2 seconds required in correcting it.

Have a good week. Perhaps spend 1/100th the time researching how to spell an easy name than doing research on said grossly misspelled player's name's highlights and/or defending untenable positions and fellating yourself, albeit in a somehow humorous way?

Cheers.

I attended the Lincoln-Way East vs. Kenwood Academy (East won 52-12) game at Gately Stadium in Chicago's Southside and report the following:

WR I'Marion Stewart: I had him for 5 receptions, 115 yards, 1 TD (85 yard TD reception when score was 38-6 East). Stewart looked very fluid running routes and displayed sure hands.  Had a couple nice catches to extend drives early in the game.  KA's QB was heavily pressured from LWE's DL (East always has one of the top defenses in IL) and had little time to throw all game long.  Stewart also played CB on defense until the game was out of reach.

Also of note: One time UM Recruit and current Miami (YTM) commit DE Marquise Lightfoot was injured on the second series of the game and did not return to action.  He stayed on the sidelines with a boot on his foot.

I watched some of Micah Kaapana’s game this week and I still can’t get any read on him. Bishop Gorman is like a 90%+ passing offense and the only time Kaapana gets the ball is on a pass or on the 1 or 2 draw plays they dial up each drive. So anytime he’s running the ball, the box is pretty wide open and he’s not facing much resistance. His ability to actually run between the tackles with linebackers not expecting pass is a complete mystery to me

It's a lazy take because it's different from your take? Lol. It's not even a blatantly negative take, I just still think Kaapana's high school tape is still very inconclusive about how his skillset will translate to college. I don't think my opinion is even in the minority as Magnus said something similar in his Hello post and I believe Brian shared similar concerns in the podcast recapping this recruiting class

Right? Even Alex in Kaapana's Hello post, the big "if" was how Kaapana would grow and show more as a featured back. So far, he's only had 16 carries in 2 games and I think those questions are still there. His YPC have been insane, but as I mentioned, there was seemingly evident reasons for that

Neither are committed, but Bryce Underwood (#1 player in 2025) went heads up against Nick Marsh (2024 4- star WR, MSU) in a classic. Underwood threw a game-winning 45 yard TD with about 3 seconds left. Both players looked great.

Bryce is obviously a must-get. I can’t remember what happened w/ Marsh’s recruitment, but we should be turning up some pressure on him.

A bit of a tangent, if I may.  This is not about a ‘24 commit - it is about a ‘27 offer.  The offer is to a rising high school freshman - Trae Taylor - who was offered by Michigan this summer.  Trae plays in the Chicago area - and, I went to his game on Friday evening.  Trae didn’t see game action until mop up time.   He played two series and tossed a few passes.  He will be someone to watch and follow.

He’s listed at 5’ 11”, 135 LBs. - can spin it - and is 14 years old.  I’ll look forward to seeing him develop over this and future seasons. And, hope he’s the next Chicago area QB prospect to commit to Michigan.  For those what may not know - Michigan currently has a Chicago area QB on the roster this season - that QB’s name is: JJ McCarthy.

Not sure where you’re getting your Davis stats from, but Henschke is reporting that he’s got 749 yards and 8 TDs through two games. And I believe they played the #4 team in NC last week, not this week.

Marich also reporting he’s 40/54 for 749 yards, 8 TDs and no picks.

Just wanted to stop by and say Roebuck and the Armstrong twins are exactly what the difference is between our two teams’ recruiting strategies. Roebuck is going to be a big mauler who can move some people while the twins can put on some weight and still be great pass protectors. Nothing wrong with either, but I think both programs are getting the guys that they want to fit their schemes. Great showing by the Lakewood OL today.

Are we as a board ever going to figure out how to spell Jadyn Davis's name?  HS stats without video and some comment on competition level don't mean much. But good news is better than bad news.

i read - on a non-michigan page, that jordan shipp has saved him a lot on his throws and he tends to throw in to heavy coverage and his WRs are bailing him out. Not to say he's bad, and im sure when you have that level of talent, you take those chances, but... seems a little Tate Forcier like in that he slings it.

We're being picky here because HS guys all have great stats, so mroe just wondering if anyone with an analytical eye watched him the past 2 weeks
