Big Ten Network Live Comments on Hoke
Just watching the show and it was great to hear very comments towards how involved Hoke is with the defensive line on each practice that they have seen and how those players react and comment on this involvement. just how much coaching and improvement those players make during the last two seasons.
That should be copied, saved and played for every single D lineman we are recruiting. Revsine and Griffith both pointed to the significant improvement and Griffith noted how much better both Washington and Campbell have become each week during the season. Nice to see recognition for their efforts on what was a big big question mark going into the season.

Apologies, but I was meandering these interwebs and saw that TOB has posted a couple times over at Genuinely Sarcastic. SIAP and sorry for getting off topic.

After the watching the defense these past 2 seasons i will never question the coaching staff again......until things screw up again

Don't worry—if we lose to Nebraska and OSU, everybody will be questioning the coaching staff.

Too bad Mattison isn't 10 years younger. He'll be retirement age in three years. I hope Brady is keeping his eyes open for the next DC.

coach into their 70's.
Mattison doesn't strike me as the guy who wants to lay around playing golf all day.

Recliner Golf. Either way, might be difficult to score well.

It might have even been a thread a few months ago, but there was a great AnnArbor.com article in the late summer where Greg Mattison basically said he would like to retire here and that he plans to coach as long as his health holds and and long as he feels he can be effective in the job, so hopefully that means he is around for a while. In other interviews that I can recall, he has said that he's even lost weight and gotten into regular exercise to ensure that this happens.

I remember that. I'm too lazy to go dig it up, but Mattison said his wife asked him what he would do if he retired, and he said he'd "golf for a couple of days, then not know what to do with himself." I think we've got him for a while, certainly long enough for him to groom someone into his worthy replacement.

Jon Hoke??

...Jon prefers coaching in the NFL as opposed to college, in part because he did not particularly enjoy the recruiting aspect of the collegiate game. Granted, that was when Michigan was looking for a secondary coach just after Hoke was hired. I do not have any quotes or links, but it was reported on ESPN radio here in Chicago (One of the Bears beat reporters asked him about it).

This is to Don. I am actually hoping that Greg is grooming Montgomery for the position. He is a young guy and is currently working under the best DC we have had in ages. I really hope that Hoke has asked GM to teach the guy everything he knows so that we could have a realitively seemless transition when GM decides to retire. I do hope that doesn't happen for a long time though.

Don't forget that Mallory has some DC experience. Montgomery is an excellent coach as well, but I have a hunch Mallory would get the nod first if he stays that long. I know its some what a badge of honor to lose coaches for coordinator and HC jobs, but I selfishly hope we can keep the gang together for some time. Damn the money DB!

ran a 3-3-5 so my guess would be Hoke has very little to do with the actual D.

...BTN guys praising Michigan coaches. The team must be winning.

"....noted how much better both Washington and Campbell have become each week during the season."
To me, this is the single greatest difference between RR and Hoke. Hoke's teams seem to improve week in and week out, throughout the season. We never saw that in RR coached teams. Fundamentally we improve and get better as the season goes along.

Sorry if this was already posted, but Jason Whitlock also mentioned Hoke in his recent article "Bubble doesn't help black QB's". I don't usually like Whitlock's stuff, but I though the Hoke comments were pretty good.
