The Panthers play the worst statistical defense in the NFL and the second worst pass D in the NFL, Newton has been on a whole other level this season and is by far the frontrunner for the MVP. Over the last 4 weeks he has scored a total of 133 points.
The Seahawks play, at home, the hapless Browns. Wilson, and his team, have been on fire over the last 4 weeks (31, 40, 46, 44 points) Statistically the Browns D is 25th in the league and 10th worst in the league against the pass. According to the stats they are actually a little better against the pass but give up 2.7 more points per game than the Giants D.
I would be hard pressed to lose by choosing either one but this game is a very important matchup, I only had 3 losses on the season with 2 of those losses coming against the team I face for my playoff life. If there was ever a time to beat this guy now is the time.

My argument that officials are human beings who inherently make mistakes is not an argument that I am putting forward against the belief that the officials screwed up? My arguments are the anthithesis of a debate. I am arguing that the officials did the best they could and putting forth evidence for my argument. What the hell are you arguing? Oh thats right, your just agreeing not arguing.
Its a legitimate argument for any situation. How can an armchair QB claim to know how and why his favorite team and QB screwed up and have the answers to fix it? How can any person who has never coached any team at any level have any idea just how demanding a job coaching a team can be? How can any person who has never spent a single snap on the field officiating the sport claim to know how and why an official screwed up?
The only thing here thats lame is some dude on his computer claiming to have all the answers. If you were willing to take a chance and go out on to the field and officiate the game you might have similar sympathy for those in that position. If nothing else, you should have a better perspective on the game and what goes in to each and every play. Until you do you have no ground to stand on and you dont have any idea what could have caused those officials to make the "mistakes" you seem so upset about.
Ultimately, what good does complaining about it even do? What can you gain by bitching about a game that is now 2 days past and cant be changed? Its nothing but a waste of time and very, very lame.
I wont dispute that. The picture is a great example of just such a mistake. However those mistakes are not what wins and losses a game for a particular team. It may seem like it at the time but its not the case.
For example: a few weeks back I was working a game that went into overtime with a score of 20-20. The visiting team took the ball in the first overtime and was unable to score a touchdown and settled for a field goal to take a 23-20 lead. The home team, on their possession, brought the ball to the 3 yard line with a 1st and goal. After 3 plays the team had pushed the ball up to the half yard line and with 4th and goal had one last chance to end the game. On 4th down the QB kept the ball and dove into a massive pile of bodies to try and score. Neither of my wing officials had sight of the ball and I, as the umpire, had no sight of the ball. As a crew we all pinched in to the pile and I began to dig for the ball. As I pulled players off and got down to the bottom of the pile I saw the QB with the ball pulled tight to his chest and half his body inside the endzone with the ball clearly inside the endzone. We called a TD for the home team to win the game 26-23 in OT. Its very possible that the QB on his initial push never actually made it into the endzone. Maybe he just wormed his way in at the bottom of the pile after he was already down. Its hard to say. But ultimately we as a crew did the only thing we could do, find the ball and make a determination on the play.
The visiting team wasnt happy and thought we botched the call but there isnt much else for us to do in that situation until we actually see leather. Because of our decision the visiting team lost and you could argue we cost them the game. But what about the fact that they were unable to score a touchdown on their overtime possession? What about all the other opportunities the team had prior to the end of the game to score that would have won the game for them and would have helped them avoid that situation? The visiting team pput themselves in that position to lose, the officials simply did their job in making a tough call. Mistakes are made by officials every day but the players and coaches know the job they have to do and they know that officiating isnt always perfect so all you can do is play your best and make the best of every opportunity given and you should win.
The reason the official adjusted his position is because he had no sight on the ball and only made an educated guess as to the spot of the ball. In that case the proper mechanic for an official is to mirror the other official on the opposite sideline who has a better angle on the play and who is more likely to have seen the ball.
Often, in plays like this that result in massive pileups, it is nearly impossible to see the ball. The only thing to do as an official in this case is to pinch in towards the pile and hope that you see leather and can spot off the ball once you see it. In some instances you may never see the ball and you are forced to have to make a best guess as to the spot of the ball. Its not a perfect scenario but its the best that you can do in situations where the ball is lost in a pile. Its similar to a fumble and a subsequent pile up. For all the officials know, that ball could have changed hands 5 times before they can get to the bottom of the pile to declare who has possession. The best an official can do is to work quickly to dig into the pile and find the ball. Whoever has possession of it at that point is whoever gets to keep possession. Its not ideal but its how the game is called and has always been called.
You may think it would be easy to see the ball and spot it on every play but it really is not and at times mistakes are made. This is not an easy call to make. The officials did what they had to do. The official with the best view of the play made a determination of the spot of the ball based on what he saw during the play and thats all that he can do.
Officials are human beings that make mistakes just like the rest of the human population. Reviews can help to alleviate the mistakes made but ultimately the game is called the best that it can be and there are some things you just cant do about a mistake that might be made.
The officials at the DI level are some of the best in the country and are deserving of being at that level. If you dont like the calls they make then why dont you become an official yourself and work to make the best calls that you can make and stop all the complaining about the officials?
Players and coaches, regardless of how upset they might get in the moment, know that the game is won or lost not by the officials but by the play on the field. Any team that plays their best and makes the best of every opportunity has nothing to worry about when it comes to the referees. If you dont like it then you have every opportunity to become a part of the game yourself and work to make the officiating better so why not try. If you love the game of football what is better than being an official and being a major part of the game you love? Try it and see what you think

I am a football official in the state of Ohio so I would like to think that I have a unique perspective on the state of High School football in Ohio. Now I cant speak for the entire state because I typically only officiate in and around NW Ohio but I do think that there is a fanatacism that is norn and bred in this state for the game of football.
There are portions of this state that were brutalized by the shift away from the steel industries 30+ years ago and the local high school and college teams were able to fill a need for those left behind by the industry. They needed something to cling to that would bring them some kind of hope and enjoyment and football became that natural outlet.
I might be way off in my thinking about this but thats my opinion. Around NW Ohio football is a big deal but its nothing like how the sport is portrayed in the NE and southern portions of the state. They are absolutely fanatical about their teams. The coaches and fans are some of the nastiest towards officials that I have ever experienced. Its just a different kind of game to them that means so much more then wins and losses.
As much as I dislike stepping foot in the city of Columbus I will admit that the Schmidt House in German Village has the most bomb ass cream filled pastry puffs I have ever eaten. Usually when heading home from the Columbus airport I will make a special stop in to town for a half dozen, they are that good.

We are all phsycing ourselves up for some big revelation that will finely blow the lid on this barrel but I dont think we are going to get what we want.

The Fab Five played like a bunch of kids who grew up in predominantly poor neighborhoods. They acted the way that they did because they were young and they were just being who they were at that time.
Jalen Rose was a trash talking summa bitch. He was cocky, brash, and he did things like wipe his ass on the MSU "S" because he was 19 years old and felt invincible. They were kids who loved playing with each other and just wanted to have fun. Im all for class and we could argue all day about how they might have represented Michigan back then but what about now? These guys seem to show a hell of a lot of class now. They have grown up and become solid men. Where they punks back then? Yeah. But who isnt a punk at 18-19 years old.
I am all for a Fab Five reunion and bringing some kind of recognition to the team for their accomplishments. Chris Webber needs to apologize for lying before I would openly accept him back but if he does that then I say bring them all back and lets start to recognize the amazing contributions these players made to the game of basketball.
I think every Michigan fan should be proud of these 5 boys who changed everything about the culture of college basketball. I think Michigan should embrace the legacy of the greatest 5 Freshmen to ever be assembled.
I wasnt so much surprised with Brians take on the hire, mostly because I tend to agree. I was more surprised by the callers who wasted no time in bitching out Cook for his dissenting opinion. I mean within a few minutes of the start of his segment the first caller was all up his shit about what he was saying.
I think its a very valid point that Michigan has regressed with this hire. Rich Rodriguez might not have produced the results we all wanted or expected but the reason for hiring him has not changed. In the last decade we have seen a major shift in college football away from that more traditional smash mouth football approach. The spread offenses that are employed are important factors in allowing teams like TCU and Auburn to dominate nationally while teams like Ohio State and Oklahoma can only dominate in conference.
Besides the last 2 years, Ohio State has traditionally struggled out of conference under Jim Tressel. Now Tressel ball does win games by reducing mistakes to a minimum and avoiding any unnecessary risks. But that style cannot compete against more athletic and speedy teams that are designed to circumvent the inherent strengths of a more traditional offense. Under Tressel the buckeyes roll through the B10 looking like a top 5 team. Then in the bowl game, against competition that does not play to the strengths of Tressels design, the weaknesses of the system are magnified.
I argued this right up to the end of the Rodriguez era. Michigan may have been getting 9+ wins under Carr but the system was outdated and needed changed and I think that hiring Rodriguez was a huge step in making that change. Unfortunately the program and its fanbase were not ready for that change. So now we go back to what we had before. A team that looks good and wins most every game but loses to more athletic, speedy teams. I was willing to suffer through a few bad seasons if it meant we would never have to deal with this kind of philosophy again but I am only one person and am obviously in the minority.
Genuinely Sarcastic can write some good stuff and it makes me feel a little better that he didnt actually write this post but ugh, I would feel dirty to ally myself with a post like that.
Whats funny is that the OP uses an evaluation of Stanford under Harbaugh as its main argument for Harbaugh bringing succes to Michigan. He points out that in year 3 Harbaugh lead Stanford to its first bowl since 2001, a small bowl but a bowl. Now in year 4 Stanford is competing for a BCS bowl. To me this seems an awful lot like a strong argument for Rodriguez rather than for Harbaugh.
This is what I had suspected after the 2008 season. I felt 3 years ago that 2011 was going to be the year that Michigan really started to compete and I still stick by that assumption. I think what Harbaugh did at Stanford is a great analog to Rich Rod and Michigan. Either way, this articel was not badly written but was the biggest crock of shit I have read so far on the subject.

I dont need to give my lifes story or anything but as a Bowling Green State University student I think that my situation might apply to this particular question.
As a lifelong Michigan fan there is no question in my mind who I will root for on September 25th and thats Michigan of course. I have a lot of love and respect for my school and I am a oud supporter in just about every way I can be but I will never, ever, ever root against Michigan.
It will be tough to cheer against my Falcons, especially since I know a couple guys on the team. But regardless of that I dont think its a tough decision at all, its not even a choice really. I will always be more a Michigan fan then a fan of anyone else.
Although if I happened to grow up a Michigan fan but comitted to and played for Miami, thats a different story. Only then could I see lying my allegiances somewhere other than in Ann Arbor.
What first must be understood is that an officials whistle does not end a given play. The whistle is used as a tool to halt the action on the field but "playing to the whistle" is not a proper coaching method because often times a play is ended by the action on the field well before the official blows his whistle. Second, as soon as that ball crosses the goal line the play is dead, whistle or no. In this circumstance rule 4-1-2-b-2 doesnt apply because the play is dead by the position of the ball not by an early or inadvertent whistle.
In this isntance the team with posession(ND) has fumbled the ball at the opposing teams 2 yard line. The ball rolls into the endzone and becomes dead immediately. With the play dead and the ball not in posession by either team the ball is awarded to the team last in posession at the spot of the fumble.
Forcier made sure that all the rumors are now answered concerning his supposed transfer. He was as much of a team player in South Bend as anyone else on the team and he made me happy with his obvious desire to help the team win in any capacity. I trust Rodriguez coaching and I trust his motivational skills because it seems obvious that this team is a very tight knit team.
Tate is a competitor and as someone who understands that kind of personality(since I suffer from the same affliction) I was worried but not freaked out about last weeks behavior. This team will go so far based solely on the strength of the internal relationship. All the obvious "its only the second week of the season" disclaimers still apply but I think the only thing holding this team back from sontending is youth and depth and next year stands to be something very special.
Roundtree doesnt deserve the jersey until he makes the tough catches.
He had a couple nice grabs but as was already mentioned, he missed out on an absolutely gorgeous ball in the first quarter. Robinson placed it just over his shoulder and it went through his hands for a dropped touchdown. That catch is the kind of catch a reciever makes while wearing the #1 jersey.
If any Michigan reciever deserves it I would have to vote for Roundtree but I think he still has a little bit of work to put into his game before he is ready for it.

During this time in the 80's America and more specifically, in corporate America, the computer was becoming a more widespread and important necessity to doing business. The technology was rapidly growing and expanding beyond its original intents. During this time some believed that technology would overrun mankind and humans would become obsolete. Terminator is a great example of this kind of ideaology. Tron explored this fear in a unique way, by actually creating a world inside the computer that was attempting to gain total control. Its not the most believable story in the world but when is fiction ever meant to be completely realistic? Tron is a sort of Western almost, a standard good vs. bad kind of story with a 21st century setting. The effects were unique and sleek for the time, the light cycles and tanks looked like something from far in the future and attracted the attention of children across the country. I dont hold any illusions about Tron being a great movie but it is in no way the worst movie ever and should never even be considered in the conversation.
The NFHS rules(which apply to all levels of football from the high school level down) states that "An offensive player shall not push, pull, or lift the runner to assist his forward progress". Along with that the runner is prohibited from grasping a teammate in an attempt to assist his forward progress, this offense would result in a 10 yard Illegal use of hands penalty.
In the case of the Forcier push, I did not see anything that could have been interpreted as assisting the runner. #52 Steve Schilling, was the closest to committing a penalty but when you watch it he is very careful about stopping fully and making a blocking sort of gesture with his arms. He extends his arms as if to push but he is not intentionally pushing Forcier in the endzone, he is pushing his defender backwards or at least trying to.
In the case of the Bush Push, Reggie clearly drives his shoulders and feet into Leinart and also clearly extends his arms to assist the runner. In that case I dont think it is any question that it was an illegal act. Unfortunately the officials are not afforded the luxury of the camera angles we fans get and therefore it is possible for human error to occure.
The head linesman should have seen the penalty and made the call but he didnt and the play will forever stand as an example of how even the best officials get it wrong sometimes. I know fans dont like to hear that but it is just the nature of any game that human error will effect the outcome from time to time.
No rule is overlooked, I as an official have never nor will ever overlook a rule. The interpretation of the rules is up to the individual official and that is bound to cause some varience but no rule is ever overlooked.
I agree that you cant blame the players for the government they play for, but I refuse to root for North Korea for obvious reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Portugal manhandle the PRK, they deserved an ass whooping and they got it.
Now the question I wonder about is; What will happen to the players on that North Korean team? Are they going to go home and be arrested and executed for humiliating the country like that? All I know is that Rachel Strassner and Judy Van Horn are instantly beatified as saints for their calm demeanor throughout this whole process. For weeks and months Rachel attempted to get brad to file the missing information, and for weeks and months Brad never attempted to respond. It would have taken me about 3 weeks to get to the point where I am sending an email with some seriously nasty undertones about what im going to do to your balls if you dont get me the info im asking for. The fact that these women managed to maintain a professional demeanor throughout is unbelievable.
I just cant believe the level of incompitence displayed by Draper and Labadie in doing the job that they where hired to do. I have never worked a job where I could get away with being this stupid, they emailed back and ofrth for 5 months with no progress whatsoever yet no one was fired or made accountable!
I loved the moment of realization for Claire, Kate, and Charlie. The whole scene was heart wrenching. Mostly I loved the small conversation that Ben and Hurley have at the end, Hugo would have most definitely made a great #1.
At first I wasnt sure how to take the new Doctor and his companion but the recent episode was awesome stuff and I have finally become convinced that this new Doctor is going to be a good one.
Yeah, I was really surprised at the sudden shift of Linus character. I had just begun to believe, completely, that Linus was genuinely sorry for what he ahd done and then he goes and willingly becomes Flockes assasin. I am wondering if there isnt some other motive involved that Ben is working towards and this is just a way of endearing himself to Flocke in order to get closer to him?
Considering the untimely demise of John Locke at the hands of Linus, and the subsequent taking of his body by MiB. It was really satisfying to see the Alt. Locke begin to believe again. I had really missed that faith that he always had, I had really missed the man that believed when no one else would.
Awesome episode overall, I was captivated throughout and I am so anxious to get to Sunday to see what becomes of all my beloved losties.
I honestly feel remorse for the MiB character. In every way possible he seemed to be a decent guy with no other intention but to find out more about who he really was and were he was really from. Jacob came off as a real asshole and even a murderer for killing his own brother in cold blood. MiB seemed fully justified in killing the woman claiming to be his mother and I was happy to see that he did.
I am beginning to think that that is an intended purpose of this episode. The episode before establishes the evil intentions of Flocke and then abruptly we are given a glimpse into his motivations and we are left to feel somewhat dorry for the character and feel that he was driven to evil. It forces the viewer to cast doubt on everything that they might have believed about Jacob up to this point, something that the writers must have done as a plot device to amp up the final 2 episodes.
As always the episode answered a few questions and created many more but at this point I dont expect ay less from the most maddening television show in the history of television.
I am so going to cry if he lead the team out for the Connecticut game. I honestly dont know anyone who wouldnt, this is just pure gold. Way to go Brock!

Overall I felt that this was a pretty strong episode, the relationship between the sideways world and the island world seems to be getting closer to a breaking point. For example: as Jack stood over Lockes bed in the hospital and Locke, in his sleep, said some things to Jack that he had told him in on the island in the past.
A few things I didnt like were how they handled Sayid and Lapidus. Since episode 4 Sayid has been a creepy, evil Sayid. Suddenly, and without any kind of exposition that gives some form of explanation, Sayid is a good guy again and he sacrifices his life for the others. I tend to believe that Lapidus isnt dead yet simply because we didnt actually see him die but if he is in fact dead I think thats a pretty shitty way to end the characters run, smash him in the face with a heavy metal door and you never see him again.
Otherwise I felt the eppy was good stuff, it was sad to see Sun and Jin die but as long as they died together I am happy. It will be interesting to see just how Jack reacts to all this, he has finally begun to believe in himself and what he is capable of but the deaths obviously hurt him badly. Will he feel a need for revenge against MiB or will he be much more calm and quit about it like Jacob?
Also, where the hell is Alpert? He went off with a couple people to destroy the plane and hasnt been seen since, he must be coming back soon. And as for Desmond, since he is not in the final cast shot, I can only assume that he is the one who will actually be replacing Jacob. He is the one who must take Jacobs place and must bottle up the evil that threatens the world. Jack is a prime candidate but I dont believe he ends up as the replacement.

here is something I want to make clear to all of you who are not.
At no time should an official ever "justify" a bad call. At no time have I ever justified a bad call. I might give a quick "sorry coach" to the head coach but I do that just to let the coach know that I realized I did make a mistake. The coach should understand, as I do, that unless its a situation where the call can be reversed, then the call stands as is good or bad and no amount of apologies or arguing is going to change anything.
I, as an official, am not going to be overly remorseful for a blown call for a couple of reasons. I still have a job to do that requires I be able to let a blown call go and just continue on the best that I can, I cannot maintain any amount of respect or credibility if I let every little mistake become something bigger, no matter how good an official is he is bound to screw up sometime.
The scout article didnt say anything. I read the whole thing expecting some kind of piece of information about starters or how a player is looking but all I get is "I dont know blah blah blibbity blah blah". Wow that was dissapointing

After 3 plays the team had pushed the ball up to the half yard line and with 4th and goal had one last chance to end the game. On 4th down the QB kept the ball and dove into a massive pile of bodies to try and score. Neither of my wing officials had sight of the ball and I, as the umpire, had no sight of the ball. As a crew we all pinched in to the pile and I began to dig for the ball. As I pulled players off and got down to the bottom of the pile I saw the QB with the ball pulled tight to his chest and half his body inside the endzone with the ball clearly inside the endzone. We called a TD for the home team to win the game 26-23 in OT. Its very possible that the QB on his initial push never actually made it into the endzone. Maybe he just wormed his way in at the bottom of the pile after he was already down. Its hard to say. But ultimately we as a crew did the only thing we could do, find the ball and make a determination on the play.
The visiting team wasnt happy and thought we botched the call but there isnt much else for us to do in that situation until we actually see leather. Because of our decision the visiting team lost and you could argue we cost them the game. But what about the fact that they were unable to score a touchdown on their overtime possession? What about all the other opportunities the team had prior to the end of the game to score that would have won the game for them and would have helped them avoid that situation? The visiting team pput themselves in that position to lose, the officials simply did their job in making a tough call. Mistakes are made by officials every day but the players and coaches know the job they have to do and they know that officiating isnt always perfect so all you can do is play your best and make the best of every opportunity given and you should win.
The reason the official adjusted his position is because he had no sight on the ball and only made an educated guess as to the spot of the ball. In that case the proper mechanic for an official is to mirror the other official on the opposite sideline who has a better angle on the play and who is more likely to have seen the ball.
Often, in plays like this that result in massive pileups, it is nearly impossible to see the ball. The only thing to do as an official in this case is to pinch in towards the pile and hope that you see leather and can spot off the ball once you see it. In some instances you may never see the ball and you are forced to have to make a best guess as to the spot of the ball. Its not a perfect scenario but its the best that you can do in situations where the ball is lost in a pile. Its similar to a fumble and a subsequent pile up. For all the officials know, that ball could have changed hands 5 times before they can get to the bottom of the pile to declare who has possession. The best an official can do is to work quickly to dig into the pile and find the ball. Whoever has possession of it at that point is whoever gets to keep possession. Its not ideal but its how the game is called and has always been called.
You may think it would be easy to see the ball and spot it on every play but it really is not and at times mistakes are made. This is not an easy call to make. The officials did what they had to do. The official with the best view of the play made a determination of the spot of the ball based on what he saw during the play and thats all that he can do.
Officials are human beings that make mistakes just like the rest of the human population. Reviews can help to alleviate the mistakes made but ultimately the game is called the best that it can be and there are some things you just cant do about a mistake that might be made.
The officials at the DI level are some of the best in the country and are deserving of being at that level. If you dont like the calls they make then why dont you become an official yourself and work to make the best calls that you can make and stop all the complaining about the officials?
Players and coaches, regardless of how upset they might get in the moment, know that the game is won or lost not by the officials but by the play on the field. Any team that plays their best and makes the best of every opportunity has nothing to worry about when it comes to the referees. If you dont like it then you have every opportunity to become a part of the game yourself and work to make the officiating better so why not try. If you love the game of football what is better than being an official and being a major part of the game you love? Try it and see what you think

I am a football official in the state of Ohio so I would like to think that I have a unique perspective on the state of High School football in Ohio. Now I cant speak for the entire state because I typically only officiate in and around NW Ohio but I do think that there is a fanatacism that is norn and bred in this state for the game of football.
There are portions of this state that were brutalized by the shift away from the steel industries 30+ years ago and the local high school and college teams were able to fill a need for those left behind by the industry. They needed something to cling to that would bring them some kind of hope and enjoyment and football became that natural outlet.
I might be way off in my thinking about this but thats my opinion. Around NW Ohio football is a big deal but its nothing like how the sport is portrayed in the NE and southern portions of the state. They are absolutely fanatical about their teams. The coaches and fans are some of the nastiest towards officials that I have ever experienced. Its just a different kind of game to them that means so much more then wins and losses.
As much as I dislike stepping foot in the city of Columbus I will admit that the Schmidt House in German Village has the most bomb ass cream filled pastry puffs I have ever eaten. Usually when heading home from the Columbus airport I will make a special stop in to town for a half dozen, they are that good.
I am getting the feeling that the major jist of the SI story is going to be a comprehensive look at the misconduct that has been committed up to this date and the possible consequences of those actions. We are all phsycing ourselves up for some big revelation that will finely blow the lid on this barrel but I dont think we are going to get what we want.
And really, even with another big bombshell I cant imagine that THE Ohio State University would quit now. I mean if they have stuck to there guns for this long then why stop now? Why give them the satisfaction? This is just terrible for college football and I am so very glad that I am a fan of a school that has a much better defined sense of integrity, honesty, and sportsmanship.

This is another piece from a different author then the original post emphasised that is, again, all about defending Tressel. According to this article Tressel "the man" must be taken into consideration when discussing Tressel "the coach". Not sure how the two are any different from each other but apparently Tressel has developed some sort of mutant ability to split his body and mind into two unique and seperate individuals. One wears a halo and a long white robe. He smiles sweetly at everyone he meets and spreads kisses and joy among the children of the world. The other side wears a red sweatervest and chomps on galvanized steel like chewing gum. He is relentless and will do anything to win.

The Fab Five played like a bunch of kids who grew up in predominantly poor neighborhoods. They acted the way that they did because they were young and they were just being who they were at that time.
Jalen Rose was a trash talking summa bitch. He was cocky, brash, and he did things like wipe his ass on the MSU "S" because he was 19 years old and felt invincible. They were kids who loved playing with each other and just wanted to have fun. Im all for class and we could argue all day about how they might have represented Michigan back then but what about now? These guys seem to show a hell of a lot of class now. They have grown up and become solid men. Where they punks back then? Yeah. But who isnt a punk at 18-19 years old.
I am all for a Fab Five reunion and bringing some kind of recognition to the team for their accomplishments. Chris Webber needs to apologize for lying before I would openly accept him back but if he does that then I say bring them all back and lets start to recognize the amazing contributions these players made to the game of basketball.
I think every Michigan fan should be proud of these 5 boys who changed everything about the culture of college basketball. I think Michigan should embrace the legacy of the greatest 5 Freshmen to ever be assembled.

I wasnt so much surprised with Brians take on the hire, mostly because I tend to agree. I was more surprised by the callers who wasted no time in bitching out Cook for his dissenting opinion. I mean within a few minutes of the start of his segment the first caller was all up his shit about what he was saying.
I think its a very valid point that Michigan has regressed with this hire. Rich Rodriguez might not have produced the results we all wanted or expected but the reason for hiring him has not changed. In the last decade we have seen a major shift in college football away from that more traditional smash mouth football approach. The spread offenses that are employed are important factors in allowing teams like TCU and Auburn to dominate nationally while teams like Ohio State and Oklahoma can only dominate in conference.
Besides the last 2 years, Ohio State has traditionally struggled out of conference under Jim Tressel. Now Tressel ball does win games by reducing mistakes to a minimum and avoiding any unnecessary risks. But that style cannot compete against more athletic and speedy teams that are designed to circumvent the inherent strengths of a more traditional offense. Under Tressel the buckeyes roll through the B10 looking like a top 5 team. Then in the bowl game, against competition that does not play to the strengths of Tressels design, the weaknesses of the system are magnified.
I argued this right up to the end of the Rodriguez era. Michigan may have been getting 9+ wins under Carr but the system was outdated and needed changed and I think that hiring Rodriguez was a huge step in making that change. Unfortunately the program and its fanbase were not ready for that change. So now we go back to what we had before. A team that looks good and wins most every game but loses to more athletic, speedy teams. I was willing to suffer through a few bad seasons if it meant we would never have to deal with this kind of philosophy again but I am only one person and am obviously in the minority.
Genuinely Sarcastic can write some good stuff and it makes me feel a little better that he didnt actually write this post but ugh, I would feel dirty to ally myself with a post like that.
Whats funny is that the OP uses an evaluation of Stanford under Harbaugh as its main argument for Harbaugh bringing succes to Michigan. He points out that in year 3 Harbaugh lead Stanford to its first bowl since 2001, a small bowl but a bowl. Now in year 4 Stanford is competing for a BCS bowl. To me this seems an awful lot like a strong argument for Rodriguez rather than for Harbaugh.
This is what I had suspected after the 2008 season. I felt 3 years ago that 2011 was going to be the year that Michigan really started to compete and I still stick by that assumption. I think what Harbaugh did at Stanford is a great analog to Rich Rod and Michigan. Either way, this articel was not badly written but was the biggest crock of shit I have read so far on the subject.

I dont need to give my lifes story or anything but as a Bowling Green State University student I think that my situation might apply to this particular question.
As a lifelong Michigan fan there is no question in my mind who I will root for on September 25th and thats Michigan of course. I have a lot of love and respect for my school and I am a oud supporter in just about every way I can be but I will never, ever, ever root against Michigan.
It will be tough to cheer against my Falcons, especially since I know a couple guys on the team. But regardless of that I dont think its a tough decision at all, its not even a choice really. I will always be more a Michigan fan then a fan of anyone else.
Although if I happened to grow up a Michigan fan but comitted to and played for Miami, thats a different story. Only then could I see lying my allegiances somewhere other than in Ann Arbor.
What first must be understood is that an officials whistle does not end a given play. The whistle is used as a tool to halt the action on the field but "playing to the whistle" is not a proper coaching method because often times a play is ended by the action on the field well before the official blows his whistle. Second, as soon as that ball crosses the goal line the play is dead, whistle or no. In this circumstance rule 4-1-2-b-2 doesnt apply because the play is dead by the position of the ball not by an early or inadvertent whistle.
In this isntance the team with posession(ND) has fumbled the ball at the opposing teams 2 yard line. The ball rolls into the endzone and becomes dead immediately. With the play dead and the ball not in posession by either team the ball is awarded to the team last in posession at the spot of the fumble.
Forcier made sure that all the rumors are now answered concerning his supposed transfer. He was as much of a team player in South Bend as anyone else on the team and he made me happy with his obvious desire to help the team win in any capacity. I trust Rodriguez coaching and I trust his motivational skills because it seems obvious that this team is a very tight knit team.
Tate is a competitor and as someone who understands that kind of personality(since I suffer from the same affliction) I was worried but not freaked out about last weeks behavior. This team will go so far based solely on the strength of the internal relationship. All the obvious "its only the second week of the season" disclaimers still apply but I think the only thing holding this team back from sontending is youth and depth and next year stands to be something very special.
Roundtree doesnt deserve the jersey until he makes the tough catches.
He had a couple nice grabs but as was already mentioned, he missed out on an absolutely gorgeous ball in the first quarter. Robinson placed it just over his shoulder and it went through his hands for a dropped touchdown. That catch is the kind of catch a reciever makes while wearing the #1 jersey.
If any Michigan reciever deserves it I would have to vote for Roundtree but I think he still has a little bit of work to put into his game before he is ready for it.

During this time in the 80's America and more specifically, in corporate America, the computer was becoming a more widespread and important necessity to doing business. The technology was rapidly growing and expanding beyond its original intents. During this time some believed that technology would overrun mankind and humans would become obsolete. Terminator is a great example of this kind of ideaology. Tron explored this fear in a unique way, by actually creating a world inside the computer that was attempting to gain total control. Its not the most believable story in the world but when is fiction ever meant to be completely realistic? Tron is a sort of Western almost, a standard good vs. bad kind of story with a 21st century setting. The effects were unique and sleek for the time, the light cycles and tanks looked like something from far in the future and attracted the attention of children across the country. I dont hold any illusions about Tron being a great movie but it is in no way the worst movie ever and should never even be considered in the conversation.
The NFHS rules(which apply to all levels of football from the high school level down) states that "An offensive player shall not push, pull, or lift the runner to assist his forward progress". Along with that the runner is prohibited from grasping a teammate in an attempt to assist his forward progress, this offense would result in a 10 yard Illegal use of hands penalty.
In the case of the Forcier push, I did not see anything that could have been interpreted as assisting the runner. #52 Steve Schilling, was the closest to committing a penalty but when you watch it he is very careful about stopping fully and making a blocking sort of gesture with his arms. He extends his arms as if to push but he is not intentionally pushing Forcier in the endzone, he is pushing his defender backwards or at least trying to.
In the case of the Bush Push, Reggie clearly drives his shoulders and feet into Leinart and also clearly extends his arms to assist the runner. In that case I dont think it is any question that it was an illegal act. Unfortunately the officials are not afforded the luxury of the camera angles we fans get and therefore it is possible for human error to occure.
The head linesman should have seen the penalty and made the call but he didnt and the play will forever stand as an example of how even the best officials get it wrong sometimes. I know fans dont like to hear that but it is just the nature of any game that human error will effect the outcome from time to time.
No rule is overlooked, I as an official have never nor will ever overlook a rule. The interpretation of the rules is up to the individual official and that is bound to cause some varience but no rule is ever overlooked.
I agree that you cant blame the players for the government they play for, but I refuse to root for North Korea for obvious reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Portugal manhandle the PRK, they deserved an ass whooping and they got it.
Now the question I wonder about is; What will happen to the players on that North Korean team? Are they going to go home and be arrested and executed for humiliating the country like that? Will the PRK Keeper spend the rest of his life in prison? I know this stuff sounds a little dramatic but I would not put it past the North Korean government.
All I know is that Rachel Strassner and Judy Van Horn are instantly beatified as saints for their calm demeanor throughout this whole process. For weeks and months Rachel attempted to get brad to file the missing information, and for weeks and months Brad never attempted to respond. It would have taken me about 3 weeks to get to the point where I am sending an email with some seriously nasty undertones about what im going to do to your balls if you dont get me the info im asking for. The fact that these women managed to maintain a professional demeanor throughout is unbelievable.
I just cant believe the level of incompitence displayed by Draper and Labadie in doing the job that they where hired to do. I have never worked a job where I could get away with being this stupid, they emailed back and ofrth for 5 months with no progress whatsoever yet no one was fired or made accountable!
I loved the moment of realization for Claire, Kate, and Charlie. The whole scene was heart wrenching. Mostly I loved the small conversation that Ben and Hurley have at the end, Hugo would have most definitely made a great #1.
At first I wasnt sure how to take the new Doctor and his companion but the recent episode was awesome stuff and I have finally become convinced that this new Doctor is going to be a good one.

Yeah, I was really surprised at the sudden shift of Linus character. I had just begun to believe, completely, that Linus was genuinely sorry for what he ahd done and then he goes and willingly becomes Flockes assasin. I am wondering if there isnt some other motive involved that Ben is working towards and this is just a way of endearing himself to Flocke in order to get closer to him?
Considering the untimely demise of John Locke at the hands of Linus, and the subsequent taking of his body by MiB. It was really satisfying to see the Alt. Locke begin to believe again. I had really missed that faith that he always had, I had really missed the man that believed when no one else would.
Awesome episode overall, I was captivated throughout and I am so anxious to get to Sunday to see what becomes of all my beloved losties.
I honestly feel remorse for the MiB character. In every way possible he seemed to be a decent guy with no other intention but to find out more about who he really was and were he was really from. Jacob came off as a real asshole and even a murderer for killing his own brother in cold blood. MiB seemed fully justified in killing the woman claiming to be his mother and I was happy to see that he did.
I am beginning to think that that is an intended purpose of this episode. The episode before establishes the evil intentions of Flocke and then abruptly we are given a glimpse into his motivations and we are left to feel somewhat dorry for the character and feel that he was driven to evil. It forces the viewer to cast doubt on everything that they might have believed about Jacob up to this point, something that the writers must have done as a plot device to amp up the final 2 episodes.
As always the episode answered a few questions and created many more but at this point I dont expect ay less from the most maddening television show in the history of television.
I am so going to cry if he lead the team out for the Connecticut game. I honestly dont know anyone who wouldnt, this is just pure gold. Way to go Brock!

Overall I felt that this was a pretty strong episode, the relationship between the sideways world and the island world seems to be getting closer to a breaking point. For example: as Jack stood over Lockes bed in the hospital and Locke, in his sleep, said some things to Jack that he had told him in on the island in the past.
A few things I didnt like were how they handled Sayid and Lapidus. Since episode 4 Sayid has been a creepy, evil Sayid. Suddenly, and without any kind of exposition that gives some form of explanation, Sayid is a good guy again and he sacrifices his life for the others. I tend to believe that Lapidus isnt dead yet simply because we didnt actually see him die but if he is in fact dead I think thats a pretty shitty way to end the characters run, smash him in the face with a heavy metal door and you never see him again.
Otherwise I felt the eppy was good stuff, it was sad to see Sun and Jin die but as long as they died together I am happy. It will be interesting to see just how Jack reacts to all this, he has finally begun to believe in himself and what he is capable of but the deaths obviously hurt him badly. Will he feel a need for revenge against MiB or will he be much more calm and quit about it like Jacob?
Also, where the hell is Alpert? He went off with a couple people to destroy the plane and hasnt been seen since, he must be coming back soon. And as for Desmond, since he is not in the final cast shot, I can only assume that he is the one who will actually be replacing Jacob. He is the one who must take Jacobs place and must bottle up the evil that threatens the world. Jack is a prime candidate but I dont believe he ends up as the replacement.
