I'm watching Chernobyl and reading about how the actual events went down.
When the reactor was on fire Valery Legasov decided to perform helicopter drops of sand and boron to put it out. When scientists suggested to him that the drops wouldn't be effective, Legasov noted that they must be seen as doing something to put out the fire, even if it's unlikely to succeed.
I dunno if I need to spell out this analogy any further but just in case, Valery Legasov = Chargers leadership and the toxic nuclear disaster fire would be the Los Angeles Chargers
The halftime taunting of OSU in the tunnel was it for me. Whatever we had been missing culturally had suddenly flipped and we seemed to have the edge over them mentally.
I actually met a girl THE DAY this season began and we slowly got to know and like each other more and more over the months as the season progressed. She watched her first games with me these playoffs and saw me in all my insanity. Watched the NC with me and referred to UM as "we". So that has been a nicely serendipitous thing.
But yeah this is 100% a denouement. I am content, basking in the afterglow (talking a little bit of shit online as well -- after all, great teams taunt). Overall just happily looking forward to what it feels like to be a fan of this team from here on out.
I feel like I got the thing many sports fans never get, a championship for the team they love deeply and irrationally. For that I'm just grateful.
One Michigan Man, and state of Michigan Man, who deserves to be shouted out for being on the field last night -- Nick Sheridan, TEs coach for the Huskies. Never will forget the selflessness he displayed as a walk-on here. Congrats on a successful season to him.
This all just makes me think of Cade, who has missed an opportunity to ride with us through all this. How beloved would that dude be if he had stuck it out and supported the team, and think of the kinds of opportunities he'd have to STAY a part of this program afterwards.
I like the idea of Michigan meme content tiktoks actually (like actually, like this is not sarcasm). The execution/idea on this one seems kinda half-baked though. Is that even a known meme format? It doesn't really.... do anything
I'd like to hear a bit more about Harbaugh and staff no-showing Santa and the NCAA this weekend. I do think Harbaugh's decisionmaking there is antagonistic and is likely to raise the temperature even more, however justified it is to flip the NCAA the bird.
Yeah if you listen to him talking right after he was drafted he was talking about how "God" had been testing him, prob about the test score leak thing. Like dude you haven't even put on NFL pads yet and already you think you're being tested? Not gonna make it.
To me that was THE moment the team's attitude felt different in that game. Although going back to watch it now I can see that they seemed to want to intimidate all game long.
A Twitter account devoted to sports injury that I follow speculated that it was a sprained MCL with a bruised kneecap (don't quote me on the latter part, a bruised something), typically 3-4 weeks minimum they said for the MCL.
Yep, and now, with nothing else tangible they could address, their fans are grasping at straws.
"We're better than them, those were just fluke wins", "maybe Day shouldn't call the plays", and I dunno what else but I'm sure there's more.
We've essentially now challenged them to meet us head on. We'll see how it plays out, Inshallah next year is a great opportunity to make the ultimate statement.
Finally. Anybody else notice all the recruits go to 3-5 schools every year while hmm, only 4 schools can be selected to compete for the CFP?
Give it a few years for recruits to start distributing themselves from the S-tier to the A- and B-tier schools and we should see some dilution of the cumulative advantage regime we've all been forced to endure.
In theory all we'd have to do is build a competitive bagman network and boom we could be right up there with OSU again. Ignoring the fact that "Michigan Man" culture would likely never allow it...
So I was out record shopping and I walked by this record store and I saw Ric Ocasek inside looking through the racks. I wonder if he found just what he needed...
Probably keeping the qb keepers in pocket for a bit, like last year. We know how Harbaugh likes his gamesmanship with offensive features. Wisconsin coaches would be pretty daft to not coach their players to watch for it after last year though. We debuted it on them.
It's an interesting topic and I think this development (players transferring a la free agents) in cfb is relevant to it.
There is definitely an argument that this is not good for the sport, and I think that this argument ought to be considered alongside arguments for empowering players.
Man, I really feel for this team. They played so hard today, hung with a more talented team and almost straight up beat them.
These guys deserve congratulations for a well fought game that most said they'd have no shot in.
Credit Harbaugh for throwing the playbook at them. It turns out he WAS storing some stuff up contrary to what we thought after Wisconsin. And really that was probably the right move, as beating Wisconsin gains us nothing really, but beating OSU could salvage an entire season.
Anyway, another bitter loss in a way too long string of them. Go Blue forever.
Oh man, the Tim Dwight game! I too thought we were screwed at half. Worse, I was there with my OSU-fan friend and his dad (we were 13 at the time).
I can't remember the specifics... surely that Griese to Tuman TD had to be the patented PA rollout, right? He always hit Tuman on that thing. Total bread & butter play that year.
Well it started with the username. My name is Adam. Wolverine had Adamantium claws (or rather an Adamantium-coated skeleton). The avatar was basically the best Wolverine pic I found on a quick Google images search.
It all worked out pretty fortuitously. Wolverine was always my favorite X-man. Always ID'd with the moody loners. E.g., Raphael from TMNT. That probably says something about me that I'd rather not delve into.
Well I like it. I thought it was a funny premise at first, just 11 minutes of opening credits to that horrible theme song (IT TAKES A LOT TO MAKE A STEW), but then things took a turn toward great right about the time Smarf showed up. And then there's the Lars von Trier cameo.
I've watched it a few times now trying to spot machete guy's first appearance. I think I spotted him juuust on the right edge of the screen during the bicep curl kid's shot at 0:19 (look at the pattern/color of whatever is over there by the golf clubs). But if he's not there then he's DEFINITELY lurking right behind the homework girl who appears right after bicep curl boy.
You gotta watch it without those subtitles though. They get in the way during at least one machete man appearance.
I guess not everyone's cup o' tea around here though. Too bad.

Just more public gamesmanship as a means of negotiation. I am not certain if he comes or goes, but this is nothing.
It seems like an angry and desperate alumni base is lashing out with the only means it has right now.
Going all in on a desperate coach and a questionable QB room.
Bold strategy, cotton.

the way he said "those questions" after he was asked as one question implies it's different questions with different answers...
That drive had a very "holy shit this is actually happening" feel to it, from snap 1.

Hail to the victors, baby
I don't remember this one, can we get The Knowledge in here again? I'd like to hear their take
We few, we happy few
Fanatics has some good looking stuff IMO, up currently on their front page https://www.fanatics.com/
You have it backwards my friend, as of last night it's all just a part of the same dream
Respect. Good luck next year.

Ryan Day calls it "x.com"
Matt Damon is built perfectly to do Ryan Dye, I mean Day. He just needs black hair day, I mean dye.

I always notice how Edwards sizes up Ransom and then hits the afterburners and pulls away. Legendary couple of runs

Shoulda gone with dialudid
Joke my friend told me once:
So I was out record shopping and I walked by this record store and I saw Ric Ocasek inside looking through the racks. I wonder if he found just what he needed...
IIRC he walked down to the line kinda briskly, maybe was trying to time it, got carried away.
Exqueeze me? Rutgers?
Nihilism is the only tolerable stance

RDR2 is very good, highly recommend. Perfect timing, releasing it just before December.
Maniac is a cool Netflix show.

A doom is here. A cosmic doom with cosmic indifference.
Let's dance.
Missed a prime opportunty to title this "The Red Army Cometh"
OP, you might get something out of this article by Christopher Lasch on the degradation of sport: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/1977/04/28/the-corruption-of-sports/

Great write-up!
Oh man, that Goya painting with Alf instead of Satan is amazing.
He always looks like Steve Zahn to me. Like if Steve Zahn played a car salesman.

The "Chris Wormely" tag is pretty appropriate this week. I thought for a sec he was deliberately using misspelled tags for our players.

Anybody got a live stream that works?
