Detroit Quick Lane Bowl open thread

The B1G gets to get embarrassed again on a national network.

It's the first-ever Quick Lane Bowl from Ford Field.

YOU ARE LOOKING LIVE at a sold-out crowd at Ford Field.

was never a good idea. Plus, why the hell would anyone want to come to Detroit for the holidays?

Michigan is a beautiful state, but Detroit is easily the ugliest part of it. I don't blame anyone for not going to this game. It's terribowl.

because Detroit teams qualified for those events.

Detroit is an ugly, dead city. I'm sorry that offends people, but it's true.  Chicago is a much more vibrant city than Detroit.

I've lived here my entire life and I have no idea what it feels like to live near a large city full of life. My Dad remembers when Detroit was such a city, but that was 45 years ago.

Or Chicago. As much as I love Chicago (and Detroit), I'll never understand why when ppl refer to "Chicago" only the good parts are thought of while when ppl refer to "Detroit" only the bad parts are thought of. Chicago is a terrible city outside of the nice parts (same can be said for Detroit). And no I'm not comparing them other then to say they both have good and bad parts (like every city).

Rarely post but logged in just for this topic.

I grew up in Detroit and love the sports teams, but comparing it to Chicago as a city is laughable. I've lived in Chicago for 2 years and currently live in Manhattan. They all have bad parts, but Detroit has nothing that is comparable to Manhattan and some parts of Brooklyn in NYC or Old Town, River North, Lincoln Park, etc in Chicago.

Chicago has 4-5 sq miles of "nice parts" - anywhere from the loop to Wrigley. What exactly are Detroit's "nice parts"? A couple of blocks near the stadiums and the casinos?

Nothing wrong with living in and/or loving Detroit, I just don't understand the defensiveness when people point out that it is obviously a less desirable city than Chicago.

With all respect, you and TM'sG don't seem all that familiar with Chicago/Detroit/both.

Detroit is an amazingly bad place. Scary things happen *all* over the city. Here are some samples:

https://drawingdetroit.wordpress.com/2013/01/06/violent-crime-in-detroi…

http://detroitography.com/2013/03/26/detroit-homicide-map-2012-liquor-p…

You can't really it's an east-/west-side thing. The dots are nearly everywhere. Statistically, safety is the exception rather than the rule. Take a drive on any big street (Michigan Avenue / Grand River / Gratiot) and you'll see lots of desolation. Better yet, check out Alter Road and a few blocks in either direction. It's a jarring contrast that can't be found many other places in the U.S.

It's true that several neighborhoods (Austin, the Englewoods, and others) have similar heat in Chicago, but they don't make up a huge percentage of the city. As well, there is large "middle class" (which includes, to degrees, places like Pilsen, Rogers Park, Archer Heights, and Edgewater) that doesn't really exist in Detroit. (I'd consider downtown and Corktown "upper class" on the Detroit scale.)

I was born in New Jersey and my parents are Rutgers alums, but RU wearing those NYPD hats is too much.

Go Heels!

Also, F.T.P.

I wouldn't be surprised if rutgers and Maryland both put together strings of solid, Iowa - like seasons. They could give psu a run for their money for mid-atlantic recruits if they gain some momentum

I still can't believe we lost to Gary TurNova and the rest of that hapless Rutgers team. We made that kid look like the offspring of Joe Montana. I'm rooting for them today because the B1G needs some kind of respect, but I hope that we take Rutgers to the woodshed next Fall and show them absolutely no mercy. I hope we show them what they should expect to receive every time they play Michigan.

An ass kicking.

Ford Field should not be hosting a bowl game. It is the worst venue by far in the NFL, and nothing about it seems worthy of hosting a bowl game(which culminates the season of college athletes).

Just curious, have you been to any others?

Ford field is quiet(actually noise killing), has a horrible PA/Sound System, poor sightlines, and is small.

Being a Lions fan, I've been to many at Ford Field. Also, I've been to about half of the other NFL venues. I love watching the Lions because I'm a lifelong fan, but it's definitely the worst venue.

Well damn, Rutgers actually showing up and kicking ass. Good for the B1G. Who would have thought that Rutgers would represent the B1G well of all teams?

I'm looking over the bottom half of the big ten bowl teams and it seriously took beating a grand total of zero teams with a pulse to make a bowl game from the b1g this season. obviously non conference comes into the picture but wow, there is no way we should be at home considering our recruiting
