Salt Collection Thread
Folks this ice/snow/rain that's coming down right now throughout Southeast Michigan is looking dangerous. This thread is for stockpiling all the salt being generated by the internet so that everyone that needs some for their driveway or sidewalk can collect. Bring your own shovel.
Whatever, Georgia totally would have beat Michigan
That's right. It's no longer about the results on the field. We have reached the point where we can declare a team to be #1, and continue to consider them #1 no matter what! Even if they lost! Even if the team they lost to lost to Michigan! Even if the team they lost to lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to Michigan! Did I lose you there? Work it out on your own!
Michigan cheated. I know they fired Connor Stalions long before the meat of Michigan's schedule, but the damage was already done.
I love this one. It supposes that, not only did Stalions' nefarious deeds given Michigan a decided schematic advantage (term copyrighted, I now owe Charlie Weiss 50 cents), but every single one of Michigan's opponents, each with multi-million dollar coaching staffs and legions of analysts and support personnel, declined to take any steps to mitigate the advantage, even though several of them had months to prepare to do so.
Michigan's lucky - Washington just happened to play their worst offensive game of the season.
Yes, they just happened to. It had nothing to do with the fact that Michigan fielded a band of bezerkering d-lineman and skillful backs deploying a top-of-the-NFL level scheme that bewildered every single quarterback that went against it (to be fair, "bewildered" is the default state of being for like 80% of Big Ten quarterbacks). Washington just played bad, so unlucky.
Michigan got away with all kinds of penalties. Clearly they officials wanted them to win.
I saved my favorite for last. The University of Michigan football team, the villains of 2023-24, the biggest cheaters in the history of the sport, the no-goodniks who shouldn't have even been allowed into the postseason, led by a man who is basically The Grinch in khakis, were the team that the NCAA decided they wanted to win the National Championship. Even though the NCAA is totally going to vacate it... annnny day now. Just wait. You'll see.
Did I miss any?

Seems like Washington got away with a lot of calls too. That late hit penalty was weak and wouldn't have been called if he was pushed out on the Michigan sideline.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
There were plenty of no-calls almost every game on holds to Michigan's defensive line too.
It's just sour grapes from naysayers per usual
January 9th, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
The number of plays the Washington OLine didn't hold a Michigan defender might make a shorter list.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:33 PM ^
I saw at least four holds that we didn't get called on. One of them was clear as day. But that was an ACC crew and they're f'n blind to holding unless it's right next to the ball apparently. So say all of the ACC fans here in my back yard.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
Makari had already started the push before he was out of bounds, the fact that it continued once out of bounds is a ridiculous thing to base the call on.

That deserves a LINK!

Michigan had 7 NFL defensive backs out there last night. This is not hyperbole.
Will Johnson will get drafted in 2025
The other 6 are going to either be drafted or be on a roster in 2024. They will be hitting NFL camps in 4-5 months. The only starting DB not going to an NFL is Will Johnson and he's the best one.
Pennix had to play an NFL defense last night against an NFL head coach and NFL coordinator.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:53 AM ^
NFL people you say? That's an unfair advantage I say.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:02 PM ^
Waiting for Pettiti to notice this. Violates Big Ten sportsmanship rule, no doubt.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:10 PM ^
Clearly a player safety issue. I mean look at what they did to poor Michael Penix.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:21 PM ^
Penix was bent but not broken
January 9th, 2024 at 12:46 PM ^
The defense did their best to keep their thumb on him and keep him from slinging it everywhere.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:04 PM ^
may need to refer him to bentcarrot.com
January 9th, 2024 at 1:41 PM ^
I dunno. Penix looked pretty broken at the end of the game. He looked like I looked after my last gallbladder attack.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:49 AM ^
I'm sure this is already in a thread somewhere but this one's for the ages
SEC-brain is just relentless
January 9th, 2024 at 11:51 AM ^
Please tell me the dude meant 'Georgia' and just had the worst typo in the history of mankind. :)
January 9th, 2024 at 11:57 AM ^
Don't think so. I should have added he's a former Alabama player
January 9th, 2024 at 12:03 PM ^
Impressive. :) I certainly don't deny that Alabama could win a rematch, but.. by 30? When Michigan only gave up 20 to them last time, and hasn't given up more than 24 all year?
Alabama's defense is so good they were planning to hold Michigan to -10 points in the rematch? :)
January 9th, 2024 at 12:35 PM ^
...and plays for the Ravens.

Already seen a bunch of "Georgia would have beaten all CFP teams by 3 TDs." When pointed out they already lost to one of teams - the common retort is "9 times out of 10, Georgia wins that game"... just delusional
January 9th, 2024 at 11:54 AM ^
he also posted that Bama wins by 25 in a rematch
it's just some dumb guy who loves his alma mater a bit much
January 9th, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
...who just so happens to currently play for John Harbaugh.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:54 AM ^
Someone should put him in concussion protocol for his own well being after that take
January 9th, 2024 at 12:22 PM ^
Speaking of which, has anyone done a welfare check on pete???
January 9th, 2024 at 12:59 PM ^
I just saw Pete's penis-shaped head on First Take with S. A. Smith. He gave Michigan credit as the rightful champs and said we earned it, there's no asterisk, it's all been discussed and the historians will have to talk about it. They all called Harbaugh a great coach and agreed he's going to the NFL.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:55 AM ^
I started to try to follow the logic of that but decided the one headache I already had this morning was enough for today. 🤷♂️😂
January 9th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
This is beautiful.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:04 PM ^
John Harbaugh has probably had some fun with him at Bama's expense in the Ravens locker room.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
This Marlon Humphrey fellow probably focuses most of his attention on the tide and not even who the tide's opponents are during a game.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:50 AM ^
I believe there was a reply on a 11w thread this morning that advocated for any ohio state fan living in or very near Michigan to smash the windows and slash the tires of any car with anything Michigan Wolverines on it. ohio state fans have gone full little brother. Maybe that will intensify the new rivalry between them and msu. We can call their annual game the "Diaper bowl".
January 9th, 2024 at 11:57 AM ^
More like the Kleenex Bowl from all of the salty tears between them the past three years.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:50 PM ^
Might have a problem with trademark infringement on that.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:55 AM ^
I actually think Ohio State may have really been the #2 team in the country. Most balanced and talented team we played during the 15-0 run.
That's what really irks the Bucks fans the most - fuck them...
January 9th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
Well, according to 247's Team Talent Composite - Ohio State is a more talented team than Michigan. And, so is Bama.
Culture, character, development, and playing as a team - has shown what a difference it can make.
Go Blue!
January 9th, 2024 at 12:21 PM ^
I think that's a reasonable take. They're the team I'd feel least confident about in a rematch.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:21 PM ^
and their starting QB left for 'Cuse..... a 6-6 team with zero chance of being a contender next year.... the culture, environment, atmosphere in c'bus ohio must be something!!!!!!
over a dozen players in the portal.... cryin' ryan can't be feeling very good.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:28 PM ^
Syracuse actually could be sneaky good next year with a very favorable schedule.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
The officials thing is crazy. It’s the go-to obviously but not this game. They let them play and called the stuff they should call. Both sides. If you don’t give UM credit at this point you are delusional. Or an asshole. Maybe both.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
Definitely both.
January 9th, 2024 at 11:58 AM ^
eh there's not much to be gained by spending time with other fans. They have mostly gone off the deep end. I mean really, even "reasonable" people still talking about vacating and cheating in a pretty uninformed way. It's all dumb and not worth spending time on.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:01 PM ^
Well, Georgia has a quality loss. Michigan has zero quality losses. Georgia clearly is better.
To be fair to Georgia, at their best they are a wrecking ball unlike anything we've seen since Miley Cyrus. I think that you can definitely call them one of the best 4 teams in the country. The problem is that 1) they didn't play their best vs. Alabama, and 2) you can say "at their best they're a wrecking ball" about damn near ANY team. Including and especially Michigan.
Both Michigan and Washington got away with a LOT of holding. For every screenshot of a Michigan OL with a fistful of jersey, there's one of a Washington player also latching onto DL. Just like an umpire who lets both pitchers work the outside corner, you can't get mad at even enforcement or non-enforcement of the rules.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:10 PM ^
I was screaming about missed holding calls all day, including on the play immediately before the one that did get called on the long pass (which I felt McGregor sold a bit). And, yes, I acknowledge that Michigan got away with a couple as well, although generally UW's defense wasn't good enough to require OL holding to the extent that Michigan's was.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
Minter's scheme was to apply pressure with four - and rely on the back end to "do their thing" and make it very difficult for Washington / Penix.
A question comes to mind - how did Washington's Joe Moore Award winning OL compare with those Michigan has had?
The officials seemed pretty balanced. What conference were they from?
January 9th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
ACC officials. Seemed to do a pretty good job. My one gripe was that the ends of Washington's line were frequently taking the first backward step into pass protection before the ball was snapped. I learned to start watching for that after listening to people bitching about NFL tackles doing it against Aiden Hutchinson, and I saw several examples of it last night.
January 9th, 2024 at 8:51 PM ^
Yeah, I saw this too. I kept waiting for the flags that never came.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:05 PM ^
Reddit is repeatedly telling me the NCAA will asterisk this title or erase it from history. Well you know what. They can take this title from my cold dead hands.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
The CFP is independent of the NCAA. Even in the UNLIKELY event that the NCAA wanted to vacate a win, the CFP would not.
And while previous Michigan administrations might bend a knee to the NCAA, this Michigan administration would only bend to pick up a weapon and come out fighting for this team.
