Your excitement-meter?

Submitted by Nervous Bird on October 13th, 2019 at 3:28 AM

I couldn't watch the game live today, but I just watched it online. And, I have to say that my excitement-meter is off the charts for next week! A prime time game versus a big time opponent in a wild environment on broadcast network television with College Gameday exposure! This is part of what makes Michigan MICHIGAN!

And, after watching the game, I'm filled with optimism for next Saturday! Of course, we preferred an easy, blowout win today. Of course, we made some mistakes that inhibited our road to victory. But, that drive after Illinois pulled to within 3 points?! Calm, meticulous, run, pass, resilient, performing under extreme pressure when needed.

And, did I see some outside running from this offense?! Did I see the running game attacking the edge? Did I see Hassan Haskins take advantage of his opportunities and put up 125 yards? No, we didn't see any downfield passing. No, we didn't take the top off of the defense. Yes, we had an offensive lull that allowed an inferior opponent back into the game. But, on a day when the 3rd ranked team was felled at home by an inferior opponent, during a season when the defending National Champions needed a last second stop to defeat a perennial conference doormat, our Wolverines took care of business and put themselves in a position to be the talk of the college football world next Saturday.

And, that sends my excitement-meter off the f'kn charts! Bring on the Nittany Lions! This season is just BEGINNING!

I can't tell if you're sincerely optimistic and a great guy to be around, or just really over the top with sarcasm. For once, I'm gonna give someone the benefit of the doubt. Give em hell, Blue

This is sincere optimism! I don't do BPONE! We are the premier game on prime time broadcast network television on a Saturday night!

What's going on around here? We have the national spotlight and the opportunity to shine in it! There are a handful of teams in the nation who receive this treatment... and WE are one of them! Hell, I wish they'd break out the all Maize uniforms for this game! Let's GO! In the immortal words of Don Brown -

"There are football games. And, there are some football FUCKING games!"

Bring on the Nittany Lions! Bring on the White Out! Go attack this shit with an enthusiasm unknown to MANKIND!

User name is in honor of Coach Harbaugh's humor. Wilton Speight said that Harbaugh told him not to eat chicken because chicken is a Nervous Bird. I like football characters, and Harbaugh qualifies.

And, I promise you, it gets no more sincere than I. I am, by nature, an optimist. And, some of the subtle changes that I saw in the team on Saturday gave rise to my original post.

Michigan can beat Penn State.  Phil Steele had Michigan in the playoffs.  Question is will they...

Phil Steele’s prediction’s aren’t worth the figurative paper they’re printed on. He thought Sparty would have a bounce back year. Last year he had Washington in the playoff. In 2017 he had FSU in the playoff.

All that hat said I hope his Michigan pick pans out.

I’m as excited as ever at this point in October!  I’ve got a pile of vacation time coming!  And I have several wallhanger bucks on my trail cameras!  And the chase phase of the rut is coming soon!  My deer season is just beginning!

XM: I’ll reply to you with legitimate sincerity, because I know you have actually spent time outdoors.

I’ve been deer hunting for about 30 years.  I mostly do archery now...used to gun hunt a lot, but only a few days a year anymore.

I used to hunt the UP exclusively; however, the deer numbers are not only way down, but the bucks usually have stunted antler growth.  I used to not care too much about antlers, but I’m way more selective nowadays.  I figure there are size minimums for fish, so it makes sense to have the same for deer.  Plus, the more selective I am, the more time I get to spend afield.  11 hour days in a little tree stand/seat can be miserable at times, but it’s all part of the deal.

Not being a hunter--oh NOW I get it. This is a board of MANLY MAN MEN who KILL and EAT raw meat!

Im with Gucci--go out and kill it with a bow, a knife, Youre bare hands.

Not some sonar Deer or Bear attracting shit thing where you sit in a tree wearing your cammies using a high powered rifle with a telescope on it.

I know hunting is cool, I did it when I was younger. But as with everything, we have put technology into it where it is not a sport anymore. I went hunting with a guy a couple years ago and it was as if I was with a cyborg hunting computerized pseudo human. I remembered the old days of prowling the woods, rifle at the ready, seeing one in the clearing, and just as you are about to squeeze the trigger, a Budweiser and a warm campfire pops into your mind and the deer gets away...

You last paragraph is GREAT!  That's the kind of hunting I did too back in my late teens and early/mid 20s before life got in the way.

Closest I've been to going out hunting over the last 35 years, though, is going up to hunting camp a few times at my uncle's cabin near Baldwin, just to play cards, drink a few beers, and stoke the campfire, all the while enjoying the comraderie of friends and relatives while there.

Who cares if we get our asses handed to us next week all of our goals of being a perennial 9-10 win team are still in front of us. At least we’ll beat Maryland, Indiana and squeeze a win out vs MSU. All we need is an outback bowl win to get 9 wins. We’ll get skullfucked by OSU but who cares as long as we get to be mentioned in the same sentence as them. You know because the greatest “rivalry” in sports and all. Give everyone on the staff an extension. Yay Harbaugh! Excitement level 10/10

Am I doing it right?

You think we’ll beat Staee? I remain skeptical about our ability to beat anyone remaining on the schedule. You just don’t get consistent play from this team and despite the running game versus Illinois we still can’t run the ball effectively or consistently including on short yardage situations whether out of the gun (can’t stand this) or out of the I (something we did with ease in prior years).

"Their offense makes ours look like the Kansas City Chiefs."

MSU is 10th in the conference in total offense per game. We're 9th.

Our offense is such an unstoppable machine that only three other teams in the conference have had fewer plays on offense so far this season: Minnesota, NW, and Rutgers.

Dude we were up 3 to fucking Illinois in the second half, what’s there to be excited about there?

Sorry, I don't trust the offense. I don't trust Shea, or Harbaugh. If a functional offense doesn't show up for this game it will be as bad as the 2017 game.
