Your Breakout Player Candidates?

Submitted by Jevy on
Boring day for me lounging around the house, and I haven't seen a topic like this that I remember. So I wanna know who do you think could end up being a starter and or a breakout player that not many people are talking about! My choice is Ben Gedeon, he may not start because of the depth at LB but I believe he is going to produce big time this year!

Harris

Henry

Hurst

Hill

Hill

Hardwick

Houma

Hackett

Harbaugh

The H's Have it!

Ok, only serious about the first 3, although if healthy K Hill will make a little noise.

In the non H category I'll throw in Brian Cole & in the Hopeful category along with Morris, is WHitfield because he's my size and I'd love to see a lightning bug in the backfield & I heard he was impressive in the spring.

He has no gut but still weighs 300 pounds, and is an intelligent kid.  This year, he knows where to go, and has a nice bag of tricks to get over/around/through linemen.  Or at least I hope that's how it plays out.

He is going to be All Big Ten. I really think what he is going to do at safety is going to be amazing watch. His closing speed is going to turn 5 yard chain moving runs in to no gains. Throw in a few TD plays on offense and punts and he is going to be a game changer.

Two guys on the DL -- Willie Henry and Maurice Hurst Jr..  Willie showed flashes of being a monster last year.  If he is healthy he may end up being huge for the run defense.  Hurst is primed to have a bust out year because he is quick and huge too.

Have we left anyone out. This is sad nobody did anything last year except Darboh and Johnson and maybe Boldon on D. We're still looking for someone to breakout. Lawrance Marshall there you go. Edit: does Jourdan Lewis count or did he breakout last season?

that have been mentioned - if the stars align correctly,  we really are going to have a great season!  All of the potential...

I just want to see Harbaugh et al  - get it out of them and produce on the field!

Can't wait for September 3rd!

I have a soft spot for Amara Darboh since he's a fellow Iowan, and I look forward to him getting some accurate passes with better protection for Rudock (yeah, Rudock starts).  I also like Khalid Hill with him blocking for some key short yardage plays.

I do think one of our LB's will be first team All-B1G - which one, I'm not sure.

that could have big seasons. Drake, if fully healed would be a tremendous deep threat and I would like to include Freddie. Although he dropped a few last season, he was coached so well in high school that he was about the only receiver that showed the ability to separate from defenders last season. Hoping his hands become less Braylon like and his precision in route running remains the same.

I am hoping, along with everyone else, that Peppers remains healthy due mostly to the fact that his ceiling seems Woodson like, although playing at different positions I think he'll be around the ball and deliver hits from the back seven in a manner we haven't seen since Harris.

Season is getting close guys. Excitement grows likewise.

If the question had been who would I like to see breakout I would have answered one of our 5 star running backs.

nobody has mentioned Henry Poggi yet.  Poggi was my 2nd choice (after Drake Harris) for breakout player; on Brians Unofficial Two-Deep, he's listed behind Taco.  His MgoBlog recruiting write-up http://mgoblog.com/content/2013-recruiting-henry-poggi  had me very excited when he committed to Michigan.  But he seemingly has been buried on the depth chart until this season; I hope to see him emerge finally as a force in the 2-deep rotation this fall.

that's cheating, b/c its not a player but our talent is finally coming of age and we have two amazing coaches (Drevno and Mattison).

Jabril MF Peppers

And on offense, if he's healthy, Drake Harris. He's a complete receiver that has the whole package. He just needs to stay healthy.

Outside of skill players, Kyle Kalis. Now that he has an elite O-Line coach watching over him, I think he finally lives up to his billing over the next two years. He'll be a first round pick in 2017.

Jim Harbaugh

After all twenty of our quarterbacks have season ending injuries, the NCAA grants Harbaugh a sixth year of eligibility. With only Ohio State to go he guarantes a victory sending us to the BIG championship game.

Does Morgan count? He was a beast two years ago, sorely missed most of last year, and generating little idle chatter in the offseason. Maybe it'll have to be a re-breakout season for Morgan

If Dymonte Thomas, Shane Morris and Kyle Kalis had 3 stars...would any of you list them?

It's not like ANY of those guys are 2nd year players. They're each a verteran at this point and not one has really done anything. Kalis has done the most, but he's also played more than the other 2.

It's just weird to watch their names pop up year after year and they haven't shown anything that says "next year that guy is going to be GREAT!"

They may have shown that by their last year they may be serviceable...like Jamar Adams, or Brandon Harrison, or Todd Howard, or Morgan Trent. But none of those guys were world beaters...they just got pretty good their senior year - especially compared to earlier in their careers.

Shane Morris looked like the worst starting QB in Michigan history in his most recent start and now he's going to be a breakout player? Kalis hasn't been all-B1G, just average over his career and Thomas' biggest play is a blocked punt.

At least if you go back and look at Stribling's first year, you see a guy who was always in position, but just some bad luck or 1 detail away from a huge play. The potential is right there in front of you. I get that type of mention.

I'm not trying to rag on the guys...but why these guys? Why not Terry Richardson? Why not Ross Douglas? Why not Ja'Ron Dukes?

Taco to have a breakout season. This line is set with DT! If Taco could just speed rush the opposing QBs and get some sacks, our D will be outstanding!

Jake Rudock will be an All BiG candidate for UM this year. He has something to prove to the league and so do the Wolverines. Great karma for the season IMO.
