I always had this skit in my head where the Big 12 was split into 2 divisions and they were called the "Steers" and "Queers". They would have the conference meeting and the commissioner would say "Ok raise you hand if you prefer to be in Steers. Ok. Now raise your hand if you want to be in the Queers. Oh come on people you can't ALL be in the Steers.!"

"Instead of going with a geographic alignment, the Big Ten named its divisions "Leaders" and "Legends," which sound like the names for a team-building scavenger hunt at Dunder Mifflin's annual conference"

I like having some reference to the portion of the country that the schools are in. I would go for Plains and Lakes or something to that effect.

Would have been brilliant if at some point the Big Ten has been full of head coaches that had worked under/played under either Bo or Woody. Otherwise, too limiting. And besides, how would you know who was in what division (besides Michigan and Ohio State)?

East / West.  It works for every other sport.  So what if Detroit is in the Western conference in one sport and the Eastern conference in another?  Who cares?  It works.

Wisconsin is east of some Big Ten teams, and west of some others.  I pretty sure they will still live.
