Wow -- Arizona is good!

We got our asses kicked by a team that is taller, more athletic, and has better shooters.  Things looking better for Houstan and Diabate to return for their sophomore seasons.  Go Blue!

Pure delusion. There is zero evidence Arizona is good. There is an an abundance of evidence that Michigan sucks.

Juwan has completely failed to recruit shooters, and he’s paying for it.

Buffalo is good! Seton Hall is good! Arizona is good! Michigan just isn't good. Not enough shooters to space the floor, below average point guard play, poor rebounding, and brutal defense. Hopefully we see some improvement.

I get the precedent, a lot of Michigan fans sometimes have a hard time accepting when a spade is a spade - sometimes our teams are not as good as we thought they were going to be. I think with MBB that is most certainly the case. We're certainly not a top 5 team right now, and it's looking pretty likely we may not be a top 25 team right now either.

That said, I do think it is entirely possible every team we've played this season will make the tournament. Michigan is 265th out of the 320-ish DI teams in terms of returning production. It's absolutely true the team does not look good right now, but it's entirely possible this looks like a completely different team in two months than what they look like right now. I think it's worth being patient with these guys and see how they develop.

Is Arizona good? Probably!

Are we good right now? Nope!

is there a chance we are VERY good come March and April of 2022? Abso-freakin-lutely. This, for better or for worse, is a Kentucky team.

Worst effort I've seen out of a Michigan basketball team in over a decade! I'm hoping we can just chalk it up to they had a little too much fun in Vegas.  I'm sure Zona is decent but they aren't that good. Michigan didn't do anything well tonight.

I switched it off at halftime, but it felt like one of those games where kids stayed out too late the night before in Vegas. Diabate and even Brooks had moments where their hands were failing them. There are deeper issues than that, like what was mentioned above, but it was compounded by our team not looking motivated or ready for the game.

Arizona and other teams will be afraid to meet us in the tourney, but for now we don't invoke any fear. It could take a loss like this to wake a team up, but it doesn't feel like that. It feels like a team that doesn't have an identity and is hesitant. Tries too hard to be an ideal instead of just having fun with their gifts. We gotta start believing we can make shots and create easy baskets with our size and athleticism. That is probably our very high ceiling.

Two big holes right now - zero three point shooting, bad defense, inability to keep a PG on the court.  Sorry - three big holes right now.  Plus Johns inability to do anything, and Houstan's lack of offense or defense.  Okay = five big holes right now.

I think inability to shoot is problem #1.  Williams, Houstan, and Johns can't the broad side of a barn.

I'm not sure if defense is a weakness.  Arizona just looked very, very good to me.  But I must admit that we gave up way too many uncontested dunks.

With regard to PG, Collins looked good.  So it's not a big problem if Jones gets a few fouls and has to rest.  Brooks and Bufkin are also decent ball handlers, so I'm not convinced that is a primary issue for us at present.

"Two big holes right now - zero three point shooting, bad defense, inability to keep a PG on the court.  Sorry - three big holes right now."

There is this key, it's called "backspace" sometimes, "delete" other times. If you hit it, you can go back and *change* your text. Then, it can be correct, right from the beginning! Or even better, you can highlight a word (e.g., "Two") with your mouse, and then type a new word (e.g., "Three"), and boom, your first sentence is correct!

Are people really this lazy?

We'll see where Arizona is at the end of the season, but I was pretty impressed by their length and amount of energy they played with... Definitely would not be surprised to see them as a top 15 or better. Lloyd is a good coach. Michigan got out played, out hustled and out coached tonight.

Hard to figure out what the issue is for Michigan, but there's not a lot of production. Period. Off the bounce, set plays, you name it, they are not looking very good at all.

Guys that you hoped would take the sophomore jump, like Williams (Zeb is an unknown) have not. BJJ is what he is, so good games followed by bad games... And the TFr have been either inconsistent (Diabate) or non existent (Houstan)

Going to be long season - just have to hope that this team does improve during the season, similar to Beilein teams of old, that would be pretty middling at the start of the year, only to improve by the end of the year.

Arizona may not be an amazing team but they were built by a known cheater - that is to say they have a lot of talent. And now they have a coach (from the Gonzaga tree) who actually knows how to coach. They are huge and athletic and very experienced. Would not be surprised to see them finish second to UCLA in the Pac12. Mathurin looks like a future Raptors draft steal.

I do think Ariz is very good. I think rankings got the teams flipped. Ariz legit looks like a top ten team and we look like we shouldn't be ranked. I could see them being top 3 in the pac10.

I really don't see how JH can work any magic, he literally has nothing to work with. Last year's team had 2-3 guys who could shoot over you or dribble past you for a bucket. This team has no one who can do that! Brooks is great but he's not that guy.  Our point guards can't shoot or create. So basically all we have is Dickinson, but he's handcuffed as teams will just double him and have no fear of anything.

But we haven't seen Tschetter or Barnes yet.

Plus, we haven't given full rein to our other shooters, since it's assumed that our paint players will dominate.

Bench Houstan and Johns in favor of Barnes and Tschetter.  Then we'll have some data to work with.  Until the, we can just hope that Houstan, Johns, Jones, and Collins can get it done.

I know they are much better than we are. So I hope they are like final four good or we are gonna be in for a long season.

Wichita State hit 12 3s giving them exactly 33 more points than us from the area where 7’2” guys dont have any effect. Beilein taught us all the blueprint for beating these monster teams. He needs to find shooters that he can green light quickly. Twill, Bufkin, somebody.

Pulling my expectations way back. Forgot you can’t plug in a star freshmen for a star junior or senior. Juwan has had his success with great defense and that’s just not the case with this team.

Many of these guys have the capability of being good defenders, but their pedigree coming in was more offensive (especially Houston) and they will need to really buy in and commit to it.

The shooting is alarming. Yes, it can get better, but I just don’t ever see Johns or Williams lighting it up from three. And Caleb has lost his confidence and is forcing shots which just compounds the situation.

New prediction would be a 9-10 seed and 4th or 5th finish in B10.

Come on people we can't expect threes from chuckers like Williams and BJJ. They are just inconsistent shooters. Fingers crossed and pray that Houston's shots start to fall, you can see he has a stroke.  Maybe Nunez is the only other guy who has a pure stroke. Ok and of course Brooks who actually makes his shots. That's it and we all know Nunez is not the guy. This team is composed of a bunch of brick layers .

In one of the threads someone said something about Howard's seat should feel warmer which is absolutely ridiculous.  While I don't like losing, this should show that Howard is worth every penny once we're tearing it up in February and March.
