World Cup Open Thread: Knockout Round Edition

Morning all. Figured some people are up and about. Winner of this Uruaguay/South Korea games gets the winner of US/Ghana In this first game, keep an eye on Diego Forlan (10) and Park Si-Jung (7). Very dangerous players. Both have impressive highlight reels playing for Man U, although Forlan plays in Spain now. They are elite players. Odds? Odds! Uruguay -125 South Korea +360 Draw +220 These odds are based on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. No OT or PKs at the end. Not sure I like the fact that bets end before the game does. Probably a soccer quirk. Odds to advance, including, well, all the game are uruguay -260, south korea +240 But, I like Uruguay to advance. I wonder if South Korea is in trouble with the defensive breakdowns they've had recently going against some of the dangerous strikers. The Suarez/Forlan combo will get the deciding goal. I'm thinking another shutout for La Celeste

Inkoom for Tagoe is a defensive move by Ghana.  I'm worried about Clark and Bradley holding up against Ghana's midfield 3.  I was hoping for Dempsey behind Altidore so as to keep Annan occupied.

Can Findley use his speed down the left, allowing Dempsey into the middle?

You guys want a new thread or keep this one going?

This almost would have felt like a CFB saturday had the game only started an hour later

That right there is why the Nats back line scares me.  Horribly sloppy with possession from Cherundolo, Ghana deserves those mistakes with all the work they put in though.

Bradley's starting line ups have been abysmal, teams have been poorly prepared and there is no excuse for all these first half substitutes.

Benitez or Raneri level tinkering with the team

...for Findley, but at least he put it on frame.  On the replay, looks like he topped that shot.  He should have done much better than that.

This is a fantastic game to watch, two amazing opportunities.  Bradley, Donovan and Dempsey are all looking good, Findley is at least running hard.  Bad tactics by the US thus far though, out numbered in the middle, and still giving Ghana lots of room for outlets on the wing.

He has been so lazy when Ghana has the ball.  There have been 3 or 4 occassions when their defenders have been just stroking it around with Annan (who looks fantastic) while he stands there.

The kid has a load of talent, but really needs to improve his work rate.  Kind of showing why he struggled to get time playing for a relegated team.

LOL, Lalas surprised Ghana has been able to maintain possession.  Has he never ever watched them play?

...Lalas' critique is right on the mark.  The US is playing way too sloppily and not exhibiting any patience on the ball.  Too many hopeful balls going begging.
