World Cup Open Thread: Knockout Round Edition
Findley, Clark and Bornstein? I swear Bradley is trying to give us all a heart attack.
Inkoom for Tagoe is a defensive move by Ghana. I'm worried about Clark and Bradley holding up against Ghana's midfield 3. I was hoping for Dempsey behind Altidore so as to keep Annan occupied.
Can Findley use his speed down the left, allowing Dempsey into the middle?
....and I for one am very happy that Ian Darke is calling this game.
Clinton in the audience with a couple of cases of Bud getting chilled.
The stars may very well be aligning.
You guys want a new thread or keep this one going?
This almost would have felt like a CFB saturday had the game only started an hour later
...going here.
OH FFS!!! Not again!!!!!
Great shot by Boeatang
meh, Howard has no excuse for getting beat at his near post.
weak effort by Howard
I know what's up, World Cup!!!
I also know, what's up, the shut out, not again!
i didn't know Ghana knocked us out the last WC...
Never saw that one coming, well maybe with George Clinton...
Imagine how good we could be if we didn't play the first 5 minutes of every other game with our cocks in our hands.
I'd say we stepped on 'em there.
With cleats. >_<
That right there is why the Nats back line scares me. Horribly sloppy with possession from Cherundolo, Ghana deserves those mistakes with all the work they put in though.
i guess if you are going to make a deliberate one, you might as well give it your all...
I thought Ghana was supposed to be undisciplined, they look pretty organized to me
They're well disciplined at least on defense, but they're bad at breaking down set defenses. Unfortunately, we gave them a fast break.
Can't complain about that yellow card.
Is it me or does John Harkes sound like Pam Ward?
...of this free kick Landon.
What the hell's going on with these guys? They look lost.
....Bradley coming forward and getting into the attack.
it looks like the team is getting more focused
their advantage in athleticism is apparent; speed makes up for a lot of mistakes in this sport
next to the other Bradley
...Edu for Clark. After he picked up the yellow, he became a real liability.
Bradley's starting line ups have been abysmal, teams have been poorly prepared and there is no excuse for all these first half substitutes.
Benitez or Raneri level tinkering with the team
...would be nice here, guys. Gotta show some more patience.
but booting the ball up the field seems to have a pretty good chance to get intercepted
...for Findley, but at least he put it on frame. On the replay, looks like he topped that shot. He should have done much better than that.
finish that!
anyone but him knocks that in. geez
....comes up big with that save.
Ouch! Slow motion ankle injury in hi-def...
...really had his ankle rolled there. He'll be lucky to be the same when he comes back.
...limping still.
This is a fantastic game to watch, two amazing opportunities. Bradley, Donovan and Dempsey are all looking good, Findley is at least running hard. Bad tactics by the US thus far though, out numbered in the middle, and still giving Ghana lots of room for outlets on the wing.
the Black Stars are too fast for that
through the midfield today.
decision to start Clark. unreal
we're gonna need to step it up
Halftime. Forward play has been crap. Altidore has to step up.
He has been so lazy when Ghana has the ball. There have been 3 or 4 occassions when their defenders have been just stroking it around with Annan (who looks fantastic) while he stands there.
The kid has a load of talent, but really needs to improve his work rate. Kind of showing why he struggled to get time playing for a relegated team.
LOL, Lalas surprised Ghana has been able to maintain possession. Has he never ever watched them play?
Ok, halftime gents... go get your daily bobble on!
...Lalas' critique is right on the mark. The US is playing way too sloppily and not exhibiting any patience on the ball. Too many hopeful balls going begging.
...in for Findley to start the second half.
feilhaber for findley. net win methinks.
