I thought Ghana was supposed to be undisciplined, they look pretty organized to me
World Cup Open Thread: Knockout Round Edition
They're well disciplined at least on defense, but they're bad at breaking down set defenses. Unfortunately, we gave them a fast break.
Can't complain about that yellow card.
Is it me or does John Harkes sound like Pam Ward?
What the hell's going on with these guys? They look lost.
it looks like the team is getting more focused
their advantage in athleticism is apparent; speed makes up for a lot of mistakes in this sport
next to the other Bradley
USA looks awful
Bradley's starting line ups have been abysmal, teams have been poorly prepared and there is no excuse for all these first half substitutes.
Benitez or Raneri level tinkering with the team
but booting the ball up the field seems to have a pretty good chance to get intercepted
anyone but him knocks that in. geez
Lucky that wasn't a Pk.. Should have been...
Ouch! Slow motion ankle injury in hi-def...
This is a fantastic game to watch, two amazing opportunities. Bradley, Donovan and Dempsey are all looking good, Findley is at least running hard. Bad tactics by the US thus far though, out numbered in the middle, and still giving Ghana lots of room for outlets on the wing.
the Black Stars are too fast for that
through the midfield today.
decision to start Clark. unreal
we're gonna need to step it up
Halftime. Forward play has been crap. Altidore has to step up.
He has been so lazy when Ghana has the ball. There have been 3 or 4 occassions when their defenders have been just stroking it around with Annan (who looks fantastic) while he stands there.
The kid has a load of talent, but really needs to improve his work rate. Kind of showing why he struggled to get time playing for a relegated team.
LOL, Lalas surprised Ghana has been able to maintain possession. Has he never ever watched them play?
Ok, halftime gents... go get your daily bobble on!
feilhaber for findley. net win methinks.
Dempsey up front.
Last sub will probably be Gomez for Bornstein if we don't score by the 75th minute.
Great play from Altidore, huge save.
Why we have to actually have our backs to the wall to play like our backs are to the wall is beyond me, but it's an encouraging start to the half.
Harkes is really going to the well with the "U.S. team thinks better than Ghana" comments. Can a "scrappy/gritty" line be far behind?
without some level of angst, they've ratcheted it up a notch
Man, the Ghanians are FAST!
if we start sending guys forward, Ghana will take advantage of it if we mess it up
Anyone got a link for live stream of this? I arranged to have my satellite changed from DishNetwork to DirectTV but they delayed my installation and haven't shown up yet :(
Again, the Black Stars fly down the field...
Ghana's front 3 look tired, not pressing our back line nearly as had as in the first half.
is up there with a groin kick on the wince scale...
...that Ghana would be our arch-nemesis.
Now make it count
Have to score...
now for the penalty shot...
Didn't get enough of the post though.
to celebrate a PK!
Especially when your teammate makes the great play to make it happen.
Ha. My sooper skillz > you
