Wondering about an answer - Miles
Over the past few days as the RR heat has been turned up a notch, I've heard callers on various radio shows and people in other forums again bring up Les Miles (whatever, that boat has sailed). But my question is, there seems to be some underlying reason (brought up by said callers, or hosts) who want to be very vague as to why Miles could never be the HFC at Michigan. They make it out to be some great secret and won't go any further. And it also seems to relate back to the time when he was an assistant under Moeller. What is this big secret or underlying reason? I'm not trying to start anything against RR or for Miles...I'm just curious as to what might be the answer to this big secret.

I have no clue but maybe people think that because he wasn't offered the position when Lloyd retired? But depending on the new AD and IF Rich doesn't work out, maybe he would be considered?

Herby is reporting that Les Miles will be the new coach at Michigan in 2010.

Haha...That boat has sailed. I see what you did there.
The reason he will not ever become the head coach at M is because RR is the coach at M and will be the HC for many years to come. Miles will be far too old to take over when RR retires as coach at M.

Amen to that brother. Additionally, who would want to follow up the guy who just won 17 National Championships... a daunting task.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:51 PM ^
He slept with Moeller's wife while Mo was HC and Miles was on staff (and was promptly removed once Lloyd became the coach), and he told recruits on the recruiting trail that Lloyd had Parkinson's and wouldn't be around if they went to Michigan.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
I'm surprised someone actually answered. Usually everyone avoids the issue. Also don't forget stuff like the rumors floating around Jai Eugene's recruitment.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:00 PM ^
never heard about Jai Eugene's recruitment. Mind to fill in?
November 10th, 2009 at 11:06 PM ^
mostly vague allegations are thrown around. Eugene had a kid in high school and stayed home for him but it's been insinuated that there was more to it. I saw it tossed around during the coach search along with the other dirty recruiting mentioned by the Other Brian.
It's probably mostly sour grapes but it is out there.

once eugene committed to UM his father (or uncle whichever) was mysteriously released from prison in louisiana. you do the math

is some serious wizard-hat-wearin', snake-oil-sellin' raht thar.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:44 AM ^
I don't really care about "losing" Les Miles, but I cannot watch LSU anymore since Eugene would probably have given us 1-2 more wins this year.
November 11th, 2009 at 1:35 AM ^
Psych! Back to the yard, Denzel. Lesson here, kids: don't kill people, murder people, steal from you, steal from me.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:31 AM ^
Wasn't it Jesus Shuttlesworth? As I recall the coach saying God please deliver Jesus to us.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:17 PM ^
that Bo called up Miles to bitch him out about the Jai Eugene recruitment. Eugene was basically coming to Michigan. Don't know if there was any more to it than Miles nabbing a Michigan commit at the last second... i.e. the way he went about it... or what.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:48 PM ^
I thought that the story behind the Eugene recruitment was that Eugene was a Michigan commit that Miles convinced to stay in LA by negative recruiting against Lloyd. the negative recruiting was around LC being diagnosed with Parkinsons.
November 11th, 2009 at 9:21 AM ^
That's similar to what I heard. And that Lloyd wanted Ferentz to be coach, but the only coach he'd veto was Miles (again, this is all gossip).
November 11th, 2009 at 12:05 PM ^
is hot
November 10th, 2009 at 11:31 PM ^
Wait wait, woah. Seriously?
November 10th, 2009 at 11:32 PM ^
Yes, seriously.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:35 PM ^
Holy shit!
November 11th, 2009 at 12:32 AM ^
Did Les leave his hat on?
November 11th, 2009 at 9:45 AM ^
I actually thought that was sarcasm at first, but apparently not... wow.
November 11th, 2009 at 11:43 AM ^
Jesus Christ, can you people get the rumor right? It was Lloyd's wife he's supposed to have slept with and that was what led to Lloyd's divorce.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
has it that Miles banged Moellers wife.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:09 PM ^
That can;t be true. If it were, it would have been front page news on the FREEP.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:12 PM ^
Hes good at that sort of thing . . . .
November 10th, 2009 at 11:46 PM ^
Not going through all of the posts, but here's what I can tell you. People close to the program want him out. A guy I work with mentioned he would trade RR for Les any day. Les aint the answer!!
November 11th, 2009 at 1:09 AM ^
please no more anonymous INSIDERZ. What makes him "close" to the program? You could say I'm close to program and I wanted Rod here, and I still want Rod here. My dad is a donor is that close to the program? He also likes Rod and will continue to do so.
I have cancelled out your insider.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a little bit risky/unethical to flat out repeatedly spread that Les Miles had an affair with a wife of a member of the coaching staff when there has been little to no concrete proof outside of blogosphere comments sections that such a thing is even true?
Frankly, I've found the rumor has taken on a status of credibility not by root in truth, but rather because it's been repeated here ad nauseum by people who want to claim they know the whole story. The Les Miles situation was blown woefully out of proportion, and has taken on a life of its own by both people who wanted him here and people who will knee-jerk defend Rich Rodriguez by ritualistically throwing Miles under the bus.
There's a lot about the process of the coaching search repeatedly posted here that has been, frankly, ludicrously incorrect. I doubt we will ever get the full story, and, really, it doesn't matter either way. Bill Martin went with RR, and we're going to have to live or die by it.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:16 AM ^
but it's also relatively common knowledge what was repeated by TOB. Granted, nobody's going to prove it 'cause neither Les nor Mo's wife are going to admit it.
November 11th, 2009 at 1:04 AM ^
To be fair, they were answering the question. The 'secret reason' or whatever is that rumor, whether its just a rumor or not. A LOT of people have heard it and, seemingly, a lot of people believe it. Yeah, rumor-mongering is what it is, but this one really does sway opinion on the man around these parts.
November 11th, 2009 at 8:11 AM ^
Not everyone who trashes Miles is necessarily a RR supporter. It's the faction loyal to Carr that hates him the most. As for whether he actually slept with Moeller's wife, that rumor is virtually impossible to prove or disprove, but it is telling that a number of well-connected people believe it. A still larger number of people maintain that Miles was told confidential information about Lloyd's health (apparently a Parkinson's diagnosis) and then not only didn't keep quiet, but actually used it against Lloyd in recruiting, which is a pretty shocking betrayal if you ask me. It's not hard to understand why Lloyd would want no part of this man in Ann Arbor.
November 11th, 2009 at 9:09 AM ^
isn't a rumor that doesn't die
November 11th, 2009 at 10:52 PM ^
A good rumor can be impossible to kill, no matter how blatantly false it is.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:34 AM ^
I talked with booster with very old family connections in the program so said the exact same thing over a year ago. I did not probe on the illness mentioned, not sure if it truly is Parkinson's. Considering this person would be considered in the top echelon of Michigan boosters/family connects, I had not reason to doubt him on his word.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:13 AM ^
I don't recall the press conference, but it was the first time I heard Les Miles name put forward to Lloyd. He didn't say anything to speak of, but the look on his face was the look of someone who had taken a bite of something they wanted to spit out.
The other, of course, is Martin. Given his background, how likely was it that he just happened to be "out of touch" at a seemingly critical moment.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:18 AM ^
the "there's a campaign going on" statement by Martin? Classic in your face comment by Martin very early on in the search.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:34 PM ^
usually looked like he had taken a bite of something he wanted to spit out when asked something by the media.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:28 AM ^
can we please close this before someone from the free press takes a look at it?
November 11th, 2009 at 1:10 AM ^
Last week the Moeller entry in Wikipedia metioned Miles by name as the cause of the restaurant argument between Moeller and his wife. Yesterday, the reference was gone.
It is a rather interesting concept, though, and would explain a lot. If all of the Miles stuff is true, then he is right where he belongs in Louisiana.
November 11th, 2009 at 1:22 AM ^
Hacked into Wikipedia? I thought the point of Wikipedia was that you could change the page without hacking it. Was the record of the old edit also purged from the site or something preposterous like that?
November 11th, 2009 at 3:04 AM ^
Tater....I heard the police tapes when it happened.in...trust me on this one: Gary Moeller was drunk and was not...repeat NOT reacting towards his wife about anything to do with Les Miles...
That fabrication is not only irresponsible, it is reprehensible...but is often tossed out there by those who do not want Les to be Michigan's head coach.
Do I want Les at Michigan? probably not...but that has NOTHING to do with some bullshit alleged (and FALSE) incident that allegedly took place 15 years ago.
IMO...Les is 57 years old, and has probably 10-13 years left as a viable Div 1 coach...unless he pulls a Jo Pa. To upseed now, and go to Michigan...and also trump pretty much one of the largest $$$ contracts in college football...is not really going to happen in reality.
NOW, dont get me wrong: If Les came here to Michigan, he certainly would right the ship in 2 years or less....at least back to respectabilty and minimize the damage that has occurred...
but let's talk Truths and Decency here:
When you make those unsubstantiated and untrue allegations...you mess with 3 families: Les Miles', Gary Moeller's and The Michigan Football family (most importantly to you and me).
To fuck with 1 of those families is wrong...to fuck with all 3 o them in obvious self-interests and politicizing....is completely and totally from the gutter...and reprehensible.
Les did not get the Michigan HC job because Lloyd was the DC and was further along in his career than Les at that time...and Lloyd got the job. Period.
Les and family moved on to pursue other opportunities and it has turned out well for him in the long run too.
Stop the bullshit rumours because you dont know about anything other than "what you heard".... and you know that is the truth.
out.

Les Miles and Gary Moellers families thank you. I just called them up and they were both crying on the phone because of the rumors being spread on this thread about them. Its about time somebody stuck up for influential and wealthy people when they are getting completely bashed on by nerds who have the time to post thousands of threads because they have no gf and play video games all day. Kudos to you my good man, you have righted a terrible wrong and deserve the Nobel Peace prize in my opinion. In fact, I have insider info that tells me you will get it next year.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:33 AM ^
So, since you're "on the inside", why was there some tension between Carr and Miles, and why wasn't Miles more strongly and carefully considered as our head coach in 2007, not 1995? Because if he wanted to come here, and there was NO reason not to want him, why didn't hit happen?
November 11th, 2009 at 1:24 AM ^
well "the other Brian"...Les' wife is also from Michigan and he met her while she was an assistant coach on the womans bb team.... so you can say shit all you want, but until someone (you?) comes out with more than just "what they heard"...then this story is simply an old wives tale, urban legend etc.
Having been close to the program at that time, I heard nothing of this rumour...and it is interesting to say the least that it should pop up 10-15 years later. It is also interesting that Les is considerably younger than Mo's wife, and as I mentioned above... his wife is also from Michigan...
so what is it? are you going to back up what you say with facts or just deal with internet rumours?
I expect 1000 negs from this post...but honestly: I DONT GIVE A FUCK. It is a big popularity contest over here at Mgoblog (with the mindless emphasis on mgoblog "points" being dictated by people's opinions rather than substance)...but people do tune in over here, for better or worse...the fucking politics and unsubstianted rumour mongering is a disservice to this place, if it is going to maintain its current level of 'blogsphere relevance'.
November 11th, 2009 at 8:42 AM ^
calm down and quit worrying about the families (les, moeller, michigan blah blah blah). welcome to the internet where unsubstantiated rumors run rampant. but, if you can't prove that it is wrong then just keep responding in ALL CAPS.
November 11th, 2009 at 9:54 AM ^
Do you really think it should be up to person saying "maybe it's not a good idea to repeat unsubstantiated rumors" to disprove the rumor?
I know that the internet is full of unsubstantiated rumors, but that is a bad thing, not something to embrace, in my opinion.
November 11th, 2009 at 8:49 AM ^
If they really don't matter to you, stop the rant
November 11th, 2009 at 10:23 AM ^
then by all means go back to the freep and mlive where you love to post your dribble so much. You are right fans there are much more respectful in their comments. Where are your facts disputing the accusations? "Well, I was very close to the situation..." meaning what? That you saw Les at a basketball game sometime? If you are going to rail on someone for giving the short version maybe you shouldn't do the exact same.
