Another day of being a U of M fan, another dong punch.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:33 PM ^
I'm happy I never watched his highlight tape.
Dong punches don't hurt as much during a pandemic, so I guess there's that.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
We no longer can have nice things. Livers will leave for sure now.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
Nice reminder that the "experts" on recruiting services dont really know shit when it comes down to it. 11/11 had JC balled to us.
Now it is of utmost importance that we keep Todd locked in. Without Todd the class would be pretty mediocre for Michigan basketball standards
Lastly, Why did David Dejulius transfer? PG wouldve been Smith and DDJ. Brooks wouldnt need to play PG at all
April 13th, 2020 at 11:43 PM ^
“Pretty mediocre?” Ugh, sometimes I wish our basketball fans would just pipe down when they know this little. That mediocre class would still have 3 guys in the top 90 players in the nation and would also include a 3 star walk on with offers from Dayton, St Louis, and San Diego State
April 13th, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
For a class that was supposed to be the best since the Fab Five, 0 day-one starters would be pretty mediocre in comparison.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:09 AM ^
The post I was responding to didn’t say mediocre compared to the fab five. It was mediocre compared to Michigan standards, which wouldn’t be at all accurate.
Also, I have no clue how you can predict if any of them will be day one starters. Dickinson has a very good chance at it. If Livers and Franz both declare, Williams could as he is the most college ready of the commits. Plus, with everyone complaining about guard depth, you have no idea if Jackson could start along with Brooks.
If Livers and Franz declare no offense but what does it matter. Jace Howard may be a freshman walk on starter. You need 5 players to start. So far with those draft predictions thats at least a possible 5 starters off next years squad.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:04 AM ^
Im not sure how you cant see this would be a very bad turn of events. Losing DDJ, Losing Todd, plus not getting Christopher is about the worst case scenario for how all of this could go
Yes, Dickenson, Zeb, and Williams are good recruits but I dont think any of them can come in and contribute much right away.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:28 AM ^
Dickenson can’t contribute right away?!? 7 footers who can hoop aren’t a common thing. He will contribute day one no doubt, in a position of need no less with castleton gone.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:17 AM ^
The class would still have three top 100 guys if Todd doesn’t commit—that isn’t “pretty mediocre”—that’s better than most JB classes. That’s still a really good class, just not an elite class.
Or is the recruiting services doing that on purpose to get clicks from a very thirsty fanbase? You decide.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
I’m never following recruiting again. Not any sport. Never. I’ll root for them after they sign the dotted line.
Nice enough kid, but he trolled everyone including Sam Webb, Juwan, etc.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Doublepost
April 13th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
Kind of looking that way. We only have three guards on the roster now, and one of them is a freshman. DDJ would be getting a lot of run.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Sure seems he at least trolled all the reporters/insiders considering they ALL got it wrong
What would be majorly fucked is if he trolled Coach Howard into thinking he was coming to Michigan which led to DDJ transferring because he was told there wouldnt be many minutes
This right here. Was discussing with my brother this morning and he was in disgust over this kid and how selfish he was to troll like this. I get it. It’s fun for the recruits, but now DDJ is gone, Jace isn’t taking a scholarship (prolly can be easily changed now?) and this program had all its eggs in the one basket. We could surely use another guard or off ball type, and have nothing left to work with. The class is still great with some great additions of kids who will likely be here for a few years at least.
But it definitely looks ugly when you take that perspective. Hope things work out for the young man, but yeah, I’m pretty bitter about it and have been trying to cut ties with my crazed fandom. I am hoping this one cuts the cord for my finally.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Yep I’m with you. Done with recruiting. Too much stock is put in these kids decisions. Let them have their spotlight and I’ll enjoy watching the end result.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he led on all of the Michigan media because, I can say this now that he's not coming here, he's a...
Attention whore
April 14th, 2020 at 12:15 AM ^
Yup, the kid is a complete prima donna. The bright side of this whole debacle is that we no longer have to pretend to like him.
Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm with many of these 5 star basketball players. They're told how great they are by everyone from the time they start showing any talent. Unless they have a strong parent to keep them grounded, this is the result. I feel sorry for Coach Howard especially. Beilein learned this the hard way too.
April 14th, 2020 at 10:37 AM ^
Can’t complain (as a fanbase) you want to recruit 5*s and then feel butt hurt when they dupe ya’ at the last minute. That’s why JB went after the kids with heart - high ceiling kids that just needed work.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:42 PM ^
I bet he was never not going to play with his brother. He just told people differently so that when he announced it would be a "shock" announcement, a la Lebron taking his talents to South Beach. It just so happens that he chose Michigan to be his red herring.
I don't believe you. Crootin' is in your blood.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
We're the best at finishing 2nd for top recruits. Must be the Michigan Difference I heard about from commercials.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
Mitch Albom, of all people, said it best about recruiting when he wrote Fab Five
Chase 'em. Replace 'em.
There will be another one next year, fellas.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:09 AM ^
"There will be another one next year, fellas."
Oh joy, so we get to do this again next year?
April 13th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
I'm not even mad anymore...its so fucking ridiculous...all I can do is laugh at the the irony of players transferring out to free up scholarships only for us to not use them all. Who the hell is our shooting guard next year?
April 13th, 2020 at 11:43 PM ^
I think Michigan will end up playing Smith and Brooks together a lot. Otherwise you've got Jackson and Nunez.
But this may well be academic. There may not be a season.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:10 AM ^
When the “next best option” includes Nunez...God help us
April 14th, 2020 at 12:29 AM ^
Like I said above, who the hell is our shooting guard?
Center ?, Livers, Franz, shooting guard ?, Brooks is the unknown lineup and once again missing that ability to drive to the basket. Bigger guards in the conference will shoot over Brooks and Smith like last year.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:47 AM ^
We will replace Simpson with a higher scorer but way less of a distributor in Smith. Brooks will be Brooks at the 2. Franz and Livers (barring he stays) should improve from where they were this year (Franz for sure, Livers hopefully will play at “healthy Livers level). We replace Teske with his backup or a very raw freshman who is not a Mitch McGary type freshman.
The bench, we lose our guard spark plug in DDJ for reasons no one understands and replaces him with a freshman who didn’t even play more than 10 minutes a game his senior year. The two spot is either the worst rotational player in recent memory or a guy who couldn’t bear out said player. Front court depth is okay with Johns, Todd, and Davis/Dickenson and maybe Williams is ready to provide minutes.
I’ll give next years team 3 more wins than this year’s team
April 14th, 2020 at 10:41 AM ^
Smith will average more points than Simpson? Ehhhhhhhh...I hope so but I have doubts there
April 13th, 2020 at 11:36 PM ^
Oh well, people have to do what they think is best for them.
I'm curious to read what Matt's insight on the situation is.
Maybe DDJ decides to stay. Maybe not.
Regardless, I still like what Michigan has coming back and coming in.
Juwan still has the program headed in the good direction.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:38 PM ^
^^ This.
We're gonna be fine. Besides, there's a whole lot worse places that he could have gone *looks up the road about 60 miles or so*
April 13th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
There’s no room for a rational well balanced post like this.
April 13th, 2020 at 11:44 PM ^
I'm sooooooorry.
(hang's head in shame)
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
I'm just genuinely confused what happened. All of the insiders said he was going to Michigan. There were multiple reports that his family didn't like Hurley and they loved Juwan. I almost wanna say that Josh saw all the crystal balls and predictions to Michigan, then did the complete opposite just for the attention
April 13th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
There was one comment he made that made me uncomfortable, he said he wanted to shock everyone with his announcement.
And well there it is...
April 13th, 2020 at 11:43 PM ^
DDJ would be a huge get if he would stay. Josh was a young Dwayne Wade. Ugh.
But he's no longer a young Wade?
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Jace might as well took a scholarship. Be shocked if Todd stays now
April 13th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
100% he was leaking Michigan so he could play it up like he has. Kept people guessing. Don’t blame the experts. He planned this. Kinda brilliant tbh
April 13th, 2020 at 11:44 PM ^
Brilliant?
If that is what he did, brilliant is not the word I would use.
